Decaf latte and egg tart at a Gyeongui Line alley café: Ieo Coffee

In short

Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch is a rooastery café tucked in an alley off the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, between Daeheung and Gongdeok stations in Mapo, Seoul. Stopping by late afternoon after her husband finished work, the blogger ordered a hot decaf latte, an iced green tea latte, an egg tart, and a white macadamia cookie — the coffee was so good you'd never guess it was decaf, and every dessert was a hit. Of all the cafés she's tried along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, this is her favorite so far.

A café stop along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail with my husband after he got off work — Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch.

Where exactly is it on the Gyeongui Line trail?

It's close to Daeheung Station — walk out Gongdeok Station Exit 1, follow the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, and turn into an alley to find the café tucked into a quiet spot.

It's always packed at lunchtime, but by late afternoon you can settle in and relax. There are still take-out customers coming through now and then, though!

Interior space of Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch

I've visited plenty of cafés right on the main stretch of the Gyeongui Line trail since they're easy to spot, but Ieo Coffee Roasters isn't on the main street, so you'd walk right past it unless you already knew it was there — which makes it a great little hideout once you do. I'd guess it already has plenty of regulars.

The café space is charming and pretty.

Visiting Ieo Coffee Roasters on September 3rd

A pretty detail spotted during the early September visit
A corner of the café decorated with small props

There were pretty little details everywhere in this café. Can't believe I'd never been to such a pretty café before now :) There are still a few spots I haven't tried yet, but out of all the cafés I've been to along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, this is my favorite.

What we ordered — decaf latte and green tea latte

  • Egg tart
  • White macadamia cookie

The cup was pretty and they even did latte art. Right about now I start craving a warm latte. It was decaf, but honestly you'd never guess it — that good. For this neighborhood, the coffee prices are pretty reasonable too.

My husband said his latte hit the spot too — cool and sweet, exactly the sugar rush he needed on a hot day!

How was the egg tart and the cookies?

There weren't many dessert options, but every single one we ordered was a win.

Egg tart served on a plate
Cross-section of the egg tart after one bite

The egg tart had a slight gyeranppang (egg bread) feel to it — instead of melting in your mouth right away, you actually got to chew and taste it. The eggy richness really came through, and it wasn't too sweet, which made it even better.

Since we hadn't eaten yet, I figured I'd just pack up the cookie if I couldn't finish it — but one bite in, it was so good I ate the whole thing! I could practically hear myself gaining weight, but oh well ☺️☺️

Coffee beans and cold brew concentrate for sale

They sell a variety of roasted beans along with cold brew dutch coffee concentrate — while we were there, some customers were picking up beans to take home.

I looked it up and found they also ship through their Naver Store. There are eco bags too, and business-size beans and samples, so it could be handy for anyone running their own shop!

It's pretty and the coffee is good, so I'll definitely be back on my own to spend some time here. Honestly, whenever a café calls itself a 'roastery,' the coffee usually turns out great — otherwise they should probably change the name. I highly recommend Ieo Coffee Roasters to anyone who loves good coffee!

We had to head out for dinner, so I asked for my latte to go, and they poured it into a disposable cup for me.

A coffee spot worth recommending along the Gyeongui Line Forest Trail, and a café near Daeheung Station: Ieo Coffee Roasters Gongdeok Branch.
