I went to Ansan, hehe. I had something to do with mom anyway, so I met up to treat her to eel, haha.

While searching for an eel restaurant near Jungang Station and Ansan City Hall, I found Songnim Bok Jangeo, an already-famous freshwater eel chain! Turns out it's everywhere. I'd been to a branch in Bucheon before, and even though it's all-you-can-eat, the quality was so much better than expected that I went right back again.

Parking and the 2nd-floor dining room

You can use the basement parking in the building, and there are plenty of spots, so no need to worry about parking!

Sign at the entrance of the 2nd-floor eel restaurant

After parking, up to the 2nd floor we went. It screams eel restaurant from every angle. They also sell 1kg takeout, just so you know, haha.

Interior of the restaurant with wide tables

The tables themselves are on the wide side, which I liked. All-you-can-eat places usually pack tables in close together to fit more people, but not here. Totally comfortable!

Dining hall seating suitable for group dinners

Would be great for group dinners too. Company dinners and the like!

Clean, right?

There's a sign about the health benefits of freshwater eel and pork — I always end up reading that kind of thing, haha.

Songnim Bok Jangeo menu & prices

Menu and price list for Songnim Bok Jangeo's all-you-can-eat eel

All-you-can-eat, adult (₩29,900) X 2 Table setting fee (₩3,000) X 2 Order

Since it was just the two of us, we went with the two-person all-you-can-eat. There's eel soup on the menu too, which I probably would've ordered with more people — apparently they simmer everything from the eel down and blend it in, making it extra rich. If anyone's had it, let me know how it was — eel soup is love. Anyway, let's eat eel until we're full!

The all-you-can-eat time limit is 2 hours.

Everything was kept spotlessly clean. Staff checked in regularly so nothing was spilled around us — very tidy.

Apparently you can also cook eggs here — where are you, eggs?! Maybe they took them off since it was getting late, haha.

Freshwater eel neatly arranged at the self-serve bar

Eel, plus fresh duck and pork belly in the set

The eel is laid out neatly — you just pick out pieces as needed, haha. Between the two of us, on top of the base serving we ate about three more plates of eel. Eating slowly, we ended up fuller than expected.

The base serving of freshwater eel

This is what comes as the base serving.

Fresh duck and pork belly served alongside the eel

Fresh duck and pork belly are also included, so there's no way you'd get tired of eating only eel :-)

Bokbunja wine provided free with the all-you-can-eat order

Bokbunja wine comes free with the all-you-can-eat order

Neither non-drinker me nor mom expected bokbunja wine to show up — what is happening?! We asked, and staff explained it comes free with the all-you-can-eat order (not with the regular menu). If you don't drink it, you can even take it home. Oh my, a place like this exists! Eel plus bokbunja wine? Talk about a boost.

Basic side dish spread including shredded ginger

This is how the basic side dishes are served. You know shredded ginger is a must with eel, right? It cuts the richness and ginger is good for you.

Wrap greens and peppers taken from the self-serve bar

Grab your wrap greens from the self-serve bar! Heads up that the peppers are spicy.

How to grill the eel

Time to give it a go! Today's grill master is me. Mom, you just eat!

Freshwater eel placed on the grill

Let's grill this up nicely.

Eel grilled skin-side down

You grill eel skin-side down first!

Eel flipped over with fins being trimmed off

Once it's grilled enough, flip it and trim off the fins on the side — let's go.

Fresh duck cooking on the grill

Mom loved the duck for how savory it was. We finished it and ordered a refill, haha. The duck somehow pulled at us more than the pork belly did that day.

Duck meat grilled to a golden brown

Maybe it tastes better because I grilled it myself, haha.

Pork belly grilling on the pan

The pork belly was good quality too — the kind anyone would like. Why is the all-you-can-eat quality here so good?

Eel grilled on both sides, cut and stood upright

Once both sides are grilled well, cut it and stand the pieces up. Mom takes the small pieces, I take the big ones, haha.

Eel wrap with perilla leaf, shredded ginger, and sauce

Nobody can stop the combo of perilla leaf plus shredded ginger and sauce plus eel. This is the real deal!

Tried it this way too — eating it however we wanted.

More eel and meat grilled after refills

Grilling more and more — it's so good you can't stop!

A grill full of eel and meat

Nom nom nom, so much food, so happy. If you're looking for an eel restaurant near Jungang Station and Ansan City Hall, Songnim Bok Jangeo — highly recommend.

A bottle of bokbunja wine brought home

We brought the bokbunja wine home with us. Since I don't drink, who knows when I'll ever finish it, haha.
