I guess fall is on its way, haha. Even daytime is just pleasantly warm—almost cool, really—so I’m craving piping-hot, filling gukbap again. Let me introduce a great sundae soup spot that’s perfect for days like this!

A fiery broth with absolutely no skimpy ingredients! Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch.

This spot sits where Giaan in Hwaseong meets Omokcheon and Gosaek in Suwon, and it’s already a hot place for nearby office workers to eat or hold team dinners, haha.

With a large dedicated parking lot, it works great for both groups and individual drivers 👍

The restaurant is right by an intersection and is so big that it’ll be hard to miss, don’t you think?

Were they trying to make us hungry before we even parked? 🤤 The restaurant was already full when we went in around 12:30. We added our names to the waiting list at the entrance and were seated about five minutes later, haha.

Luckily, tables turn over quickly, so no need to worry about lunchtime!!

Solo tables thoughtfully set up for diners eating alone

Another thing that impressed me at Gohyangok Spicy Sundaeguk Suwon Omokcheon Branch was the tables designed with solo diners in mind ✔️

Even the wall-facing seats each have their own charger—such a thoughtful touch ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Since it’s a sundae soup restaurant, sundae soup is naturally the signature menu item. Sundaeguk (Korean blood sausage soup) is ₩11,000, while spicy sundae soup is ₩12,000.

There are also lots of hinoki cypress dishes and drinking snacks, so it’s perfect with a drink too 👍 The next table had sundae soup, hinoki dishes, and makgeolli—ah, if only it hadn’t been work hours, hahaha.

A self-service bar for extra kimchi and somyeon

The basic side dishes arrived! Two kinds of red kimchi, yeolmu kimchi (young radish kimchi), and vegetables ✔️ Plus one serving of somyeon (thin wheat noodles) per person!!!!

Personally, I liked that every table had a paper utensil mat—it showed they care about hygiene too, and made me think, yep, this really is a great Suwon sundae soup spot 👏👏

The kimchi here is so good that you keep reaching for it like magic... which means I kept going back to the self-service bar, haha.

Along with kimchi and vegetables, amazingly, you can also get extra somyeon at the self-service bar ⭐️

The spicy sundae soup and galbi mandu combination

Here comes the spicy sundae soup, bubbling away with a seriously tempting look ❤️

I’ll start lightly with the somyeon, hahaha. Somyeon in hot broth—what more is there to say? Just slurp, and it’s gone in no time. So good...

Next up, the generously packed sundae and meat ✔️ At Gohyangok, the meat has just the right mix of lean and fat, with a pleasantly chewy bite that anyone would enjoy 👍

And the sundae is so delicious too—the casing is almost like that of gopchang sundae, so wrapping it with chives is just perfection...!!

Two guys can’t just go out and have sundae soup alone, right! We ordered galbi mandu (sweet marinated-rib dumplings) on the side, and their sweet, meat-filled center with the spicy sundae soup was an insane combination!!

If it’s spicy, add free broth

Here’s a great tip ⭐ The spicy sundae soup definitely has some heat! Even I, someone who doesn’t avoid spicy food, was like whew... Of course, you can adjust the spice level when ordering, but personally, I recommend adding the free broth instead 👍

Enjoy the rich heat at first, then add broth later for a gentler soup, haha.
