Marine City Chinese restaurant, three dishes for two at once: Bueokgan
In short
Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is a Chinese restaurant on the second floor above Subyeonchoego Pork Gukbap, at the entrance to the Marine City promenade in Haeundae, Busan. Two diners ordered poached-egg ganjajang (noodles in black bean sauce), seafood jjamppong and jalapeno cream shrimp, and all three arrived almost at the same time, so the table worked like a buffet, with barley tea, danmuji and jachai as the basic sides. For a jjajang, jjamppong and cream shrimp combination, Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an easy recommendation for a meal in Haeundae.

Today I was taking a walk around Marine City after a while, got a craving for Chinese food, and ended up having a great meal at Bueokgan Chinese Haeundae branch — so here's my review.

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch?
Bueokgan Chinese is located right at the entrance of the Marine City promenade. It's on the 2nd floor of Suybeonchoego Pork Gukbap!

You just open the door and walk in — the red-toned Chinese restaurant vibe inside is really stylish.

There was a hand-washing station set up on the left as you enter. It's a bit much to go all the way to the bathroom, but wiping your hands with just a wet wipe feels iffy — so having a spot like this is super convenient and nice.

Interior and seating: can you go with a baby?
Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch has nicely decorated walls too. I'd say it's 70% Chinese vibe plus 30% modern sophistication. I've also been to the Dalmaji branch before, and that one had impressively pretty interior too.

There are various group tables available. It looked suitable for family gatherings and group dinners too. There are kids' chairs, so it seems fine to bring a baby along!

The three dishes two diners ordered
Since there were two of us, we ordered three dishes: poached-egg ganjajang, seafood jjamppong, and jalapeño cream shrimp.

There are aprons ready in the middle of the restaurant, so make sure everyone wears one. Even though I was wearing new clothes, I kept thinking 'nah, I'm fine' and ended up staining them anyway ^^^^* Better safe than sorry — grab one in time!

I was so busy admiring the pretty restaurant that time flew by. With the warm lighting and sleek interior, it seemed perfect not just for a date, but also for a wedding-invitation gathering or a family meal out. I found myself thinking I should bring my mom and dad here next time.

Basic sides: barley tea, danmuji and jachai
For basic side dishes, we got barley tea, danmuji, and jachai. Danmuji is nice, but personally I think jachai is the way to go with Chinese food. Not taking rebuttals on this haha. Jachai is a Chinese-style pickle made by preserving gaegat, a type of mustard green — it has a crunchy texture and a salty, slightly spicy flavor.

All three of our dishes came out. They arrived almost at the same time, so we got to pick and choose between the three like a buffet.

The signature dish: poached-egg ganjajang
Bueokgan Chinese's signature dish is the poached-egg jjajangmyeon. It's served with a glossy, rich jjajang sauce topped with a soft poached egg like an onsen egg. It's the familiar, delicious flavor we all know — just a premium version! The salty, smoky umami of the jjajang sauce mixes with the burst poached egg yolk, maximizing an overall savory, silky flavor.
The way the nutty poached egg yolk coats the noodles like a glaze works beautifully — it cuts down the typical Chinese-food greasiness and goes down smoothly, making it enjoyable for people of all ages. I personally love eggs, so once I heard the poached egg was on top, I picked the jjajang without hesitation. I'd recommend pairing it with fried dishes like yurinki or cream shrimp.

Seafood jjamppong with a clean, clear broth
At a glance, it was piled generously with squid, shrimp, shellfish, and fresh vegetables — a mouthwatering visual. Rather than a heavy, murky style, it has a clean, not-too-strong broth that lets the natural freshness of the seafood and a subtle smoky flavor come through — if you like jjamppong, you should definitely order the seafood version.
The noodles held onto the broth well without feeling separate, and the bouncy texture of the seafood added to the experience so it stayed enjoyable to the last bite. It's not overly spicy or oily, so I'd especially recommend it to people who prefer a clean-broth dish.

What is the jalapeno cream shrimp like?
Plump, chunky fried shrimp come topped with a generous amount of nutty, smooth cream sauce, finished with chopped jalapeño on top for a clean look. The batter is crispy and the shrimp inside stays bouncy. Regular cream shrimp can get sickly after a few bites, but thanks to the sharp kick of jalapeño, we enjoyed it all the way to the last piece without getting tired of it.
It's a perfect pairing alongside the spicy seafood jjamppong or the sweet-salty poached-egg jjajangmyeon!!
The combination worth ordering for two
I'd recommend everyone try the jjajang-jjamppong-cream shrimp combo. For a Haeundae meal, I highly recommend Bueokgan Chinese ♥
