Where is Sanchaega Hanjeongsik near Meokgol Station?

Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch is a Korean set-menu (hanjeongsik) restaurant at 30 Dongil-ro 157-gil, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, an easy walk from Meokgol Station on Line 7. I usually love clean, mild Korean food, so on a weekend I went looking for somewhere to eat with a friend. I found a place near a Line 7 station with pretty good reviews and decided to check it out.

This time I visited Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch, known as one of the go-to restaurants near Meokgol Station. It's easy to reach by public transport and the local reputation isn't bad at all, so I went.

The restaurant sits at 30 Dongil-ro 157-gil, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, and since it's not far from the subway exit, I could walk there easily.

It's open daily from 11am to 10pm, with a break time from 3:30pm to 5pm, so you'll want to avoid visiting during that window.

Parking for 2–3 cars and a line outside Sanchaega by 12:30 on weekdays

Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch does have its own parking lot, but it's small — space for only about 2 to 3 cars. If you're driving, it's worth checking parking availability beforehand. So if you plan to drive, it's safest to confirm you'll have a spot before you head over.

Lunchtime line outside Sanchaega Hanjeongsik

I went at weekday lunchtime, and by around 12:30 a long line had formed outside the restaurant. Waiting is likely during the lunch peak, so it's better to arrive a bit early or reserve ahead. It's mainly a spot for nearby office workers and neighborhood locals, so seats filled up fast at lunch. Watching a steady stream of customers come in, all clearly fond of the food, made it obvious this really is a well-loved restaurant near Meokgol Station.

What comes with the 18,000-won gondre cauldron rice set?

The menu had a good variety, and we went with the gondre cauldron rice special set, which requires a minimum order of two people. Sanchaega Hanjeongsik Meokgol Main Branch's signature dish, the gondre cauldron rice special set (2 people minimum), is priced at ₩18,000 per person and comes generously loaded with fragrant gondre (mountain vegetable) cauldron rice, 12 kinds of banchan (side dishes), grilled flounder, stir-fried pork (jeyuk bokkeum), leafy wraps, grilled dried pollack, grilled deodeok root, and hearty doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew). There's also a solo gondre-bap menu for ₩9,000, good if you're coming alone for something light.

Not long after ordering, a neatly arranged spread arrived at the table.

The side dishes overall weren't heavily seasoned and tasted clean. Nothing was too intense, so it was easy eating for anyone, young or old. Each banchan felt made with care, and I kept reaching for more with my chopsticks.

Refillable doenjang jjigae and basic side dishes

What stood out was that the basic banchan and doenjang jjigae are refillable, so we never ran short throughout the meal.

Nurungji after the cauldron rice, and the mood inside Sanchaega

The freshly cooked gondre cauldron rice had an amazing fragrant herb aroma.

After scooping the rice out into bowls, water is poured into the cauldron to make nurungji (scorched rice tea), which was a great, savory way to finish the meal. Since the whole spread was mild and non-spicy, it was easy on the stomach and digested well.

The interior kept a calm, comfortable Korean-restaurant feel. Customers of all ages come through, and it seemed like a good pick for taking your parents or hosting a group gathering.
