Busanjin curry restaurant for a couple lunch with gimbap-worthy

These days my partner and I are on a mission to try every good curry spot around, which is honestly great because I never have to think about what to eat for lunch anymore.

"Yep! Curry! 🍛"

So we went to Sarugak20, a curry restaurant in Jeonpo!

Sarugak20 is the second branch of Moru Sikdang (모루식당), which used to be a very famous curry spot in Jeonpo (Moru Sikdang itself has since closed).

It's near Exit 8 of Jeonpo Station in Busanjin, Busan — head down into the basement below the monkey sign across from the entrance of the Jeonpo 1-dong Community Center.

You just go down those stairs. ✨Watch your head on the way down~!✨

A basement space that still catches sunlight — what are the seats like?

Let's go inside Sarugak20, a Japanese-style curry restaurant tucked into a quiet uphill alley!

The wood-tone interior feels cozy and warm, and you can tell the space is kept spotlessly clean.

Tables are spaced generously so it never feels cramped, and even though it's compact, there's a good variety of seating.

There are also big tables, good for groups.

With sunny window seats and counter seats, it's easy to come alone and eat without feeling self-conscious, and a nice place to just sit quietly 🤎

I thought this floor-seating table area was so unique!

It's great for eating with kids, and since dogs are welcome here, you could sit your pup right down beside you too 🐶👶🏻

There's even a little spot on one side for washing your hands — hand wash and hand cream too, this level of thoughtfulness..💗

The entrance area has the feel of a little gift shop, with various small items for sale that are fun to browse.

How to order and the menu

At Sarugak20, you order and pay first at the counter, then the food is brought to your table.

Water is self-serve~! (plain water or lime water)

• Shrimp cream curry, brisket cream curry, special curry
• So-pecial curry, Sarugak curry, half-and-half curry
• (one free refill of curry or rice)
• ✅ Add-ons: scrambled egg, poached egg, sausage, sweet potato cheese croquette, fried shrimp, tonkatsu, karaage

After ordering, they bring you spoon, fork, straw, and napkins.

Brisket cream curry / half-and-half curry / grapefruit juice

It was hot out so I ordered a grapefruit juice to cool off. The bitter grapefruit flavor with a touch of sweetness was delicious.

The curry arrived with gorgeous colors and plating 💛💛

Half-and-half curry with added scrambled egg — how did it taste?

Diced radish kimchi comes as a side dish.

For the half-and-half curry, I ate the cream curry and beef curry together, nom nom. I added scrambled egg.

The cream curry isn't harsh at all — smooth, with a deep flavor that comes through gently.

It's soft enough that you want to eat it like a soup, spoonful after spoonful~! Eating this smooth cream curry in such a pretty space just made me feel all soft and fuzzy inside ..🫧

The beef curry side has cheese topping on it. It doesn't overpower the curry's flavor, but you can gently taste the cheese's richness 🧀

The beef curry has finely chopped beef in it, so there's something to chew on — really good.

There's also a savory, slightly spicy kick that makes it even more delicious.

I'm getting the half-and-half curry again next time! (Topping the beef curry with brisket is also amazing!)

Brisket cream curry

The harmony of savory brisket and smooth cream curry. Meat is love ..❣️

The cream curry is creamy but not greasy, so it pairs well with the clean-tasting brisket.

The curry's texture isn't too thin or too thick, so it mixes well with the fluffy rice.

Add a piece of radish kimchi on top and it's even more delicious~!

Karaage and sweet potato cheese croquette prices as sides

We ordered sweet potato cheese croquette and karaage as sides.

Karaage (6pc ₩6,000)

Fresh out of the fryer, piping hot, crispy outside and moist inside ❤️‍🔥

It's already seasoned so it's tasty on its own, but it's also great with the cabbage salad that comes with it, or dipped in tartar sauce 💛

Sweet potato cheese croquette (2pc ₩3,500). Dip it in curry sauce if that's your thing — delicious that way too.

Can you see the cheese pull! It's packed full of sweet potato and cheese inside. Fresh from the fryer, the cheese stretches out sooo long.

The outside is super crispy✨ Sarugak's curry is great, but turns out they're great at fried food too!!!

Lunchbox takeout and frozen curry

Plate cleaned, kimchi and all~~~~👍🏻 Every menu item can be ordered as takeout in a lunchbox, and the curry can also be packed as frozen curry to take home.
