In short

Bakerist Brown is a large bakery café in Gangnam, Seoul, spread across a standalone building from basement to 3rd floor near Sinnonhyeon Station. After weekend shopping near Gangnam Station, the writer ordered an iced Americano, iced salt cream coffee, an 8-piece Gangnam Sand set and a fig wakbu salt bread for a total of ₩41,700. After weekend shopping near Gangnam Station, I heard about a large handmade-dessert bakery café near Sinnonhyeon Station with a vintage vibe, so I decided to check it out.

I'm usually not a fan of going to cafés in crowded neighborhoods — there's a good chance of no seats, and even if there is one, it's too loud to talk. But this place is a large café using an entire standalone building from basement to 3rd floor, so I didn't have to worry about seating at all. The 3rd floor especially was already full of group visitors, like study groups. This is my review of Bakerist Brown, a hot spot in Gangnam that I apparently was the only one who didn't know about — let's get into it.

The classic red brick exterior catches your eye from far away, and there's even a cute little outdoor terrace, so it felt like walking into a small alley café in Europe. With such an exotic, vintage feel from the outside alone, I couldn't wait to see what kind of gorgeous space and unusual desserts were waiting inside..!

Endless bread with that irresistible buttery smell

The moment I stepped in, I was hit with the smell of buttery bread and my eyes went wide at the sheer variety of baked goods on display.

Croissants, salt bread, madeleines, pies, milk bread, mille-feuille, French pie, pain au chocolat, egg tarts, wakbu salt bread... piles of mouthwatering bread that made me happy just looking at them. The kind of visual that leaves you in a happy dilemma over what to pick!

So many types of salt bread

The bear-shaped pastry milk bread was cute too, but what really caught my eye was the salt bread lineup showing off its adorable visuals. I even spotted the melon salt bread that NMIXX's Sullyoon reportedly loves, along with basics like mentaiko (pollack roe) salt bread and crème brûlée salt bread, plus the wakbu salt bread line — chocolate kadaif, fig, and blueberry yogurt. Sounds like fun to pick according to your salt bread (sioppang) preference.

There was also the flashy Gangnam Sand lineup, which seemed like Bakerist Brown's signature item — 8 different colors and flavors.

A space full of classic interior decor and brand goods

Above and below a vintage wooden cabinet were antique plaster busts, along with BAKERIST BROWN branded t-shirts and mugs arranged prettily. It's a corner filled with charming little items that make browsing just as fun as the bakery itself.

A perfect dessert tea time full of favorites

You know sweet desserts go perfectly with an iced Americano, right? But I also couldn't give up on sweet-and-salty, so I picked the refreshingly cold Americano along with a salt cream coffee with its soft, salty cream to complete the perfect combo.

For desserts, there were too many unusual options to choose from, so after much deliberation I went with the Gangnam Sand set and the fig wakbu salt bread. I couldn't pick just one or two Gangnam Sand flavors since I was curious about all of them, and I've been obsessed with wakbu salt bread lately... Did I order too much? I worried, but once it all arrived, I was thrilled!

Iced Americano and iced salt cream coffee

Iced Americano and salt cream coffee flavors

The Americano had zero acidity. With its heavy body and clean finish, it's the perfect balance to refresh your palate alongside sweet bakery items.

The salt cream coffee has a generous, soft and springy cream layered over bitter coffee. Try the cream on its own first to taste its sweet-salty flavor, then mix it with the coffee to maximize the sweet-and-salty combo.

Boxed 8-piece Gangnam Sand set

Gangnam Sand set: flavor by flavor review

Here's my review of the Gangnam Sand set, which was full of fun in choosing what to try...

Raspberry Blossom

Combo: raspberry & white chocolate. The tart-sweet raspberry flavor spreads through your mouth first, then the softness of the white chocolate wraps around it. Starts refreshingly tart and ends sweetly.

Sweet Pumpkin Jack

Combo: sweet pumpkin & butter. Honestly, sweet pumpkin? I was skeptical, expecting not to like this cookie. But one bite in, the mild pumpkin flavor meets nutty butter for a deep, rich taste. Not too sweet, savory and hearty — surprisingly one I kept reaching for.

Golden Hour

Combo: caramel & white chocolate. Sweet caramel and soft white chocolate make for a dream pairing. Perfect for when you need a rich, sweet sugar boost — one bite and done! Such happy sweetness, this one truly lives up to its name.

Black Grain

Combo: black sesame & cream. The nutty black sesame aroma and flavor hit really strong. The cream mellows it out softly. A textbook example of nutty, savory flavor that would win over anyone with a grandma-approved palate.

Rich Ganache

Combo: chocolate & cream. Thick, rich chocolate ganache blends with cream for a dense, deep sweetness. A must for chocolate lovers — impossible to pass up!

London Fog

Combo: Earl Grey & white chocolate. The moment you bite in, a fragrant Earl Grey aroma spreads, with the milk chocolate coming through light and soft. The most elegant-tasting sand, leaving a lingering, fragrant black tea finish.

Cream Forest

Combo: matcha & cream cheese. After the bitter matcha flavor comes a thick, rich cream cheese that harmonizes beautifully. A charming flavor where you get matcha's signature bitterness and sweet cream cheese at the same time.

Peanut Butter Wave

Combo: peanut & butter. Rich, nutty peanut butter comes through heavy and full. Salty yet sweet and nutty flavors are maximized here, bringing out peanut's signature charm intensely. An addictive flavor everyone will like.

Fig wakbu salt bread covered in white chocolate

They were all so, so good, but if I revisit and had to pick from the 8 flavors, I'd repurchase Golden Hour, London Fog, Cream Forest, and Peanut Butter Wave. These are my top picks if a full 8-piece box feels like too much.

What does the fig wakbu salt bread taste like?

Last but not least, the fig wakbu salt bread I've been obsessed with lately. I agonized between the Dubai wakbu salt bread and blueberry yogurt wakbu salt bread, but I'm glad I picked the fig one. The salt bread is almost completely covered in a waterfall of white chocolate — since I love white chocolate, the visual alone got my heart racing.

Crispy outside, chewy inside salt bread texture, combined with sweet-salty cream and plump figs packed with each bite, plus the wakbu-style white chocolate coating that shatters and melts away... every bite kept me happy!

Sugar craving: completely satisfied today

From the elaborate, multi-flavor Gangnam Sand set to the trendy wakbu salt bread and perfectly balanced coffee, this was a truly satisfying tea time. It's a place that nails both visuals and taste, so I want to come back soon and stamp-collect all the breads I haven't tried yet..!

If you're looking for a bakery, salt bread, or pastry spot near Sinnonhyeon or Gangnam Station for your next sugar craving, I recommend visiting Bakerist Brown.
