Danyang market day: aging room visit before buying salt bread sets
In short
Black Garlic Salt Bread is a salt bread bakery inside Danyang's Gugyeong Market in Chungbuk. On a five-day market day (held on the 1st and 6th), the writer waited 10-15 minutes, bought Set 1 and Set 2, and checked out the black garlic aging room right in front of the shop. The garlic flavor turned out mild and sweet, easy even for someone who can't handle raw garlic.

I went to Danyang on a Sunday haha. Danyang is famous for garlic, but... I can't eat raw garlic, though I'm totally fine with roasted garlic lol. So I set out to Gugyeong Market to find a famous garlic food in Danyang!!!

Danyang's Gugyeong Market is a permanent market, but on the 1st and 6th a five-day market opens up alongside it too~ I visited on a market day and really got to look around properly.

A long line spotted while wandering the market
While looking around the market, I spotted a long~ line!!! I looked closer and, huh? Salt bread? This bread-loving girl doesn't just walk past that, so I got right in line haha. Black Garlic Salt Bread, a must-visit spot at Danyang's Gugyeong Market.

So how long is the wait?
The line was pretty long so I thought I'd be waiting forever, but since bread kept coming out I think I only waited about 10-15 minutes. Black garlic salt bread... I'd seen garlic salt bread before but this was my first time seeing black garlic.

Ingredients and the black garlic aging room
They said it's made with black garlic from native Danyang six-clove garlic, domestic sun-dried salt, and top-grade French gourmet butter. Black garlic salt bread made with such good ingredients...

You can actually see the black garlic aging room right in front of the shop. Being able to see with my own eyes the black garlic aging for 4 to 9 days made me trust it even more. I once saw on TV someone making black garlic in a rice cooker, and apparently the longer it ages, the deeper and richer the flavor gets... I got so excited thinking about how good it would taste~

They follow a same-day-made, same-day-sold principle with no preservatives, dyes, or chemical additives, so this really is healthy salt bread. Love that♡

There was also an ice cream salt bread, made with Sangha Farm ice cream apparently. Sangha Farm ice cream is so good — a salty, savory salt bread with soft, sweet ice cream sounds like an amazing combo too.

Discounts with nearby shops
Black Garlic Salt Bread, a must-visit at Danyang's Gugyeong Market, is running a review event and discounts on salt bread purchases when you also buy from nearby shops like Danyang Bakery and Black Garlic Nurungji Dakgangjeong — might as well grab every benefit you can get, right?^^

Ordering Set 1 and Set 2
There are four kinds of salt bread — original, black garlic, garlic, and streusel (soboro). I wanted to try the original but was also curious about the black garlic and garlic ones, so...

I ordered Set 1 and Set 2. Buying as a set gets you a better discount than buying individually.

I loved the packaging. Cute, right? It has a handle so it's easy to carry around, and carrying it like this while wandering the market was really convenient~ Would make a great gift too.

Set 1 and Set 2 — as soon as I got in the car, I dove straight into the original first. Salt bread really is all about the basics haha, salty, savory, with the butter flavor coming through so strongly that it was really delicious.

Is the garlic flavor strong? Comparing original, garlic, and black garlic
As soon as I got home I started eating salt bread in earnest~ From the top I worked through original, black garlic, and garlic, one by one haha. Honestly I worried the garlic flavor might be too strong, but it turned out milder and sweeter than expected, so it was delicious. The garlic salt bread had more of that sweet edge, while the black garlic salt bread felt like the garlic flavor was a bit more intense? The sweetness wasn't just plain sweetness either — it had that rich, mellow, distinctly black-garlic sweetness, which made the black garlic salt bread feel a bit more special.
My parents tried it too and said the bread tastes good~ (TMI: my mom doesn't really like how salty salt bread can be, but after trying the garlic and black garlic ones, she said she liked that the garlic flavor came through alongside the saltiness instead of it just being salty^^)
If you're looking for a special salt bread you can only get in Danyang, or want to bring home a tasty food gift from a Danyang trip, I recommend Black Garlic Salt Bread, a must-visit at Danyang's Gugyeong Market♡
