Weekday afternoon tea: salt bread and Gangnam Sand 5 flavors, Bakerist
In short
Bakerist Brown is a bakery café between Sinnonhyeon and Gangnam stations in Seoul, spread across basement level 1 to floor 3. Visiting on a quiet weekday afternoon, the writer tried the signature salt bread, all five Gangnam Sand cookie flavors, and salt cream coffee — the French butter salt bread was crackly outside and moist as a butter cave inside. With roomy seating and gift-ready dessert boxes, it made a great tea-time spot near Gangnam.

On a sunny weekday in September 2026, I followed a sweet, buttery bread smell down a side street near Sinnonhyeon. That's how I found Bakerist Brown, the bakery famous for sitting right between Sinnonhyeon Station and Gangnam Station.

The salt bread, rich with the flavor of top-grade French butter, and the colorful Gangnam Sand cookies were so tempting that pairing them with a coffee felt like the perfect way to unwind. 🧈💛

Where is Bakerist Brown and how do you get there?
Walk up about 5 minutes from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6 or Gangnam Station Exit 11. Once you turn into the alley, the warm red-brick building with its clean awning catches your eye right away.
The vintage-feeling stairs and entrance are so pretty that I was taking photos before I even walked in — it really stood out even among the other bakeries on this Sinnonhyeon street.
Café atmosphere and seating
Open the door and step onto the 1st floor, and the smell of butter hits you as the cute bakery display case greets you. There are adorable plush toys and props by the counter, and the shop's own branded T-shirts are displayed tastefully on wooden shelving.

Drinks range from the signature salt cream coffee to various teas and ades.

Seating continues from basement 1 all the way to the 3rd floor. The 2nd floor is bright and white-toned with wooden furniture, plus plush leather sofa seats and large wooden group tables — really comfortable for chatting with friends.
The Sinnonhyeon bakery bread lineup
Browsing the display case, I genuinely almost lost it as a bread lover!

The basket full of plain salt bread was shiny and glossy.

From colorful matcha, chocolate, and lemon madeleines to the adorable eyeball-decorated snail cream pastry and the sweet-salty salted caramel croissant, it was a dazzling spread.

There was also crisp mille-feuille, a hearty pastry sausage roll, golden-baked egg tarts, crumble pies piled with toppings, and a dirty chocolate pain topped with plenty of cocoa powder!! Seeing all these breads got me so excited!!

Everything is baked fresh daily using top-grade Elle & Vire butter from France. Maybe that's why the fig pavlova, sweet corn cheesecake, and fig croissant in the showcase all looked so delicious.

Salt bread, Gangnam Sand 5 flavors, and salt cream coffee
After a lot of deliberation, I ended up with Bakerist Brown's signature salt bread, all five Gangnam Sand flavors, and a salt cream coffee. ☕️

First, true to its reputation as a salt bread spot near Gangnam Station, the outside was pleasantly crackly and the inside was full of moist, chewy goodness like a butter cave. The coarse salt on top added just enough saltiness so the buttery flavor spread through my mouth without ever feeling greasy.

The colorful square Gangnam Sand cookies come in flavors like Golden Hour, Cream Forest, Lychee Ganache, and London Fog, and each one balanced the cookie base texture with the sandwiched cream beautifully. Sipping the salt cream coffee, with its soft, chewy sweet-and-salty cream, alongside a bite of dessert was truly a perfect match.
Is parking available?
There's no dedicated parking at the store, so if you drive, you'll need to use a nearby paid lot. The alley can get congested for cars, so I'd recommend taking public transit and walking from Sinnonhyeon Station instead.
They're open daily from 11:00 to 23:00, so it's a good stop for a late evening visit — and don't forget the first-come receipt review event that gets you a free sand cookie.
This was Bakerist Brown, a Sinnonhyeon bakery café where I got to enjoy top-notch French-butter breads in a cozy, vintage interior. I'd recommend it as a pleasant tea-time spot if you're looking for a spacious, comfortable café near Gangnam, or need a pretty dessert box for a gift. Next time I'm nearby, I'm going back for more salt bread and to try the pies I haven't tasted yet~~ 💛
