An Ilsan Lake Park restaurant recommendation with great value for money — Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch.

Today I want to introduce Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch, where you can enjoy a wide variety of sushi in generous portions near Ilsan Lake Park and Western Dome. My partner and I were on a date at Ilsan Lake Park and, while trying to decide what to have for dinner, we felt like fresh sushi, so we stopped by. Let's get into the review!

Inside Hwangje Sushi: tables and bar seats for solo diners

Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is close to both Ilsan Lake Park and Western Dome, so it was easy to combine a walk with the meal.
The parking lot was also spacious, so we could park comfortably since we came by car. Around Ilsan Lake Park, finding a parking spot on weekends or busy days can be a real hassle, right? Here you can take care of both the meal and parking at once, so it seemed especially convenient for anyone driving.
Inside, there were table seats for groups as well as dachi (bar) seats for solo diners. It felt like a place suited not just for dates or family dinners but also for a day when you just want to enjoy sushi quietly on your own.
When we visited, the owner seated us really quickly. Their tone was friendly, and they greeted us with a bright expression the whole time.

It felt comfortable and pleasant enough to bring kids along too, so it seemed like a good spot for a family meal. They were also running a Naver photo review event — you get two whopping pieces of king shrimp tempura, so hurry and join in!!
Menu and prices at Hwangje Sushi Ilsan

Hwangje Sushi had a variety of set menus to choose from depending on price and composition. Everything from a light Today's Sushi to the Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi, VIP Sushi, and even the Hwangje Signature Omakase Sushi was available.
- VIP Sushi 12p ₩25,000
- Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi 12p ₩25,000
Self-serve bar and the complimentary seasonal porridge

Before the sushi arrived, a complimentary seasonal porridge came out first. It seemed to be abalone innard porridge, and it was so savory and delicious. Starting the meal by gently filling up on warm porridge made me so happy. The pickled vegetables had seaweed and cucumber in them, and the tangy vinegar flavor soaked in nicely, making it great for cleansing the palate.
What comes in the VIP Sushi 12p (25,000 won)?
VIP Sushi 12p is ₩25,000 and comes with seasonal porridge, salad, mini udon, grilled fish, and tempura as standard. The set consists of sea bream x2, flounder, seasonal live fish, salmon x2, akami (lean tuna), medakodoro (fatty tuna), abalone, torched grilled red shrimp, grilled beef, and grilled freshwater eel.

We ordered one VIP Sushi and one Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi. Both menus come with 12 pieces, and since the sushi I wanted and the sushi my partner liked were different, we each ordered one and decided to share.

The VIP Sushi had a well-balanced variety — flounder, seasonal live fish, sea bream, salmon and salmon belly, tuna, grilled red shrimp, abalone, beef, eel, and more. The sashimi itself was tender and generously sized, so the texture was really nice.

The salmon belly was so soft it melted in my mouth, haha. There wasn't a hint of fishiness — everything was delicious.

The salmon was soft and savory, while the flounder had a light but chewy texture that I really liked.
The eel sushi I'd been looking forward to had sweet sauce paired perfectly with the tender eel. The piece was as big as the eel you'd get on an eel rice bowl, so I was so satisfied. The rice was a little sparse, and the eel was huge lol 🩷

Mini udon, grilled fish and the review-event king shrimp tempura
The mini udon was also better than I expected. Instead of noodles that easily snapped apart, it had a chewy texture that could rival a proper udon shop.

Wait... is the shrimp tempura we got as a review gift for real...

It was such a nicely crispy-fried king shrimp tempura, so delicious, haha.

They said mini udon, pickled vegetables, and grilled fish all come as standard sides, and I thought the complimentary spread was really solid. The grilled fish that came as standard was also much tastier than I expected — I was surprised. It had a sweet sauce drizzled on top that paired perfectly with the salty fish flesh.

There were almost no small bones, so the flesh came apart smoothly, and I wanted to order a separate bowl of rice just to eat with the grilled fish, lol.
Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi 12p (25,000 won): sweet and savory pieces
The Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi 12p is also ₩25,000 and comes with seasonal porridge, salad, mini udon, grilled fish, and tempura as standard. The set consists of flounder x2, salmon x2, soy-marinated shrimp x2, grilled beef x2, grilled shrimp x2, and eel x2.

My partner ordered the Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi. With flounder, salmon, soy-marinated shrimp, beef, grilled shrimp, and eel sushi each in pairs, it really was, as the name suggests, a lineup of crowd-pleasing sushi that few people would dislike.
At first I was only looking at my VIP Sushi, but seeing my partner's plate made me crave sushi with sweet-and-savory sauce too, like the soy shrimp and eel!

Sushi that lets you taste the fish's natural flavor, and sushi enhanced with sweet, salty seasoning each have their own charm, right? If this place were near my house, I'd want to order delivery every day — the sushi quality was genuinely impressive.

Which Hwangje Sushi set should you order?
If you're visiting with kids, I'd recommend the Popular 6-Type Assorted Sushi with familiar ingredients and sweet-savory flavors. For adults who want to taste a variety of live fish, tuna, eel, and abalone, the VIP Sushi or the Hwangje Signature Sushi would suit them well~
