Ilsan sushi restaurant with Ebisu draft beer: Hwangje Sushi Ilsan
In short
Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch is an aged-sushi restaurant on the first floor of the SK M-City complex, directly across from Ilsan Lake Park in Goyang, Gyeonggi. Ahead of the Goyang Lake Art Festival, a solo lunch here meant the new fatty belly sushi platter (10 pieces) with an Ebisu draft beer, plus seasonal porridge, salad, grilled salmon, tempura and mini udon included as standard. The bluefin tuna belly navel and the seasonal belly cut topped with ankimo (monkfish liver) made Hwangje Sushi worth the trip, even for a table of one.

Where to eat before the Goyang Lake Art Festival
As an Ilsan resident, I really love Ilsan Lake Park. It's one of Ilsan's signature spots that I visit often, whether for a stroll, an outing, or a run. This week there's a special event coming up — the Goyang Lake Art Festival! Fireworks and a drone show at Ilsan Lake Park, plus a mini concert by Shin Seung-hun! It's a richer lineup than usual, so I'm pretty excited haha.
But when planning a trip to the lake park or a festival, there's always one thing that quietly nags at you — parking and where to eat. Today I want to drop some info on an Ilsan sushi restaurant with relatively easy parking, worth knowing before heading to the Goyang Lake Art Festival: Hwangje Sushi Ilsan Main Branch, located right across from Ilsan Lake Park.
It's a hearty setup that comes with seasonal porridge, salad, and mini udon, plus grilled fish and tempura — an Ilsan sushi spot where you can enjoy fresh, generously sized cuts of fish in various combinations.

This time, I revisited Hwangje Sushi in Janghang-dong after a while to try the newly launched menu, the fatty belly sushi platter 10p, as a solo lunch. Choosing tuna belly sushi as my solo Ilsan lunch... it really felt like an emperor's lunch, haha.
※ I'd recommend double-checking parking and any festival-period benefits with the store when you visit.
Hwangje Sushi location and seating: 1F SK M-City, near Jeongbalsan Station

Right across from Ilsan Lake Park and close to Western Dom, Hwangje Sushi is a sizable Ilsan sushi restaurant on the first floor of the SK M-City complex. Since it's a large complex, parking space tends to be relatively ample.
If you're visiting for the Goyang Lake Park festival, this is a great spot for lunch or dinner before heading over to the lake park. There are 4-person tables, solo seats good for eating alone, and bar seats for solo dining and drinking.

So it's a space that works well for anyone looking for an Ilsan lunch spot, a solo-dining haven, a family meal spot, or a date restaurant. In particular, the weekday-only lunch set comes standard with seasonal porridge, salad, grilled fish, and tempura, plus sushi, udon, or soba. Prices start from ₩11,000, so I'd like to introduce it as a good-value Ilsan sushi restaurant.

The sushi lineup is also very diverse — raw fish, salmon, shrimp, tuna, seared sushi, and more. There's also kaisendon, eel rice bowl, sashimi rice bowl, cold soba, udon, pork cutlet, and sashimi sets, so it's a solid Ilsan restaurant to visit even with someone who isn't a big sushi fan.

What to order: the new fatty belly sushi platter, 10 pieces

The new fatty belly sushi platter 10p lets you enjoy premium fatty cuts from various fish all at once. With its rich flavor and soft texture, it should satisfy anyone who loves fatty belly sushi. Note that it's sold in a limited daily quantity, so it can sell out early. If the bluefin tuna belly navel runs out, it may be substituted with otoro (large belly), so keep that in mind.

※ Dine-in orders come standard with seasonal porridge, salad, mini udon, grilled fish, and tempura. The exact lineup may vary depending on store conditions.
Weekday lunch sets at 11,000 won
The weekday lunch set is dine-in only, and takeout isn't available. If you want something simple yet filling for lunch, the lunch set is a solid choice.
Hwangje Sushi sushi menu options by taste
The kids' sushi platter is designed for children who aren't fans of raw fish or wasabi, made with grilled shrimp, beef, sweet shrimp, egg, and fried tofu — worth keeping in mind for a family meal.
Kaisendon and sashimi menu
Beyond sushi, there's also a wide range of menus for those who prefer rice bowls or sashimi.

There's also Ebisu draft beer and Sapporo Premium draft on tap, which pair nicely with sushi. Even at lunch, hard to walk past a cold beer tap... am I the only one? Haha.
Solo lunch review: tablet ordering and a glass of Ebisu

I revisited Hwangje Sushi in Janghang-dong after a while. The whole point of this visit was to try the newly launched fatty belly sushi platter 10p. Choosing tuna belly sushi as my solo Ilsan lunch... it really felt like an emperor's lunch!!! Haha.
I settled into a seat good for a relaxed solo lunch and looked over the menu. Every table at Hwangje Sushi has a tablet installed, so ordering is convenient. With such a wide menu, just picking sushi takes a while — but this time I didn't hesitate and ordered the new fatty belly sushi platter 10p.

And... even in broad daylight, I couldn't walk past that cool draft beer tap. So I ended up ordering an Ebisu draft beer too, haha. The combination of sushi and draft beer is just irresistible.

The included sides that arrive before the sushi
Before the sushi came out, seasonal porridge and a refreshing salad arrived first. The warm porridge gently soothes the stomach, and the salad wakes up the palate a bit.

By this point, waiting for the sushi becomes enjoyable in itself. After a sip of cold Ebisu draft beer, today's star finally arrived. Ta-da~~~~
How does each cut in the belly sushi platter taste?
Seeing the beautifully arranged fatty belly sushi platter on the plate nearly made my mouth water uncontrollably. From bluefin tuna belly navel to mekajiki, engawa, salmon belly, and seasonal fatty fish topped with ankimo! A single plate packed with a variety of premium cuts really caught my eye. The composition was as follows.
- Bluefin tuna belly navel 2p
- Mekajiki (swordfish belly) 2p
- Engawa 2p
- Salmon belly 2p
- Seasonal fatty fish with ankimo 2p
If you love fatty sushi, this is a composition that makes you happy just looking at it. I savored each piece while sipping warm broth.
Bluefin tuna belly navel
From the very first bite, a savory richness spreads smoothly through the mouth. You can really taste bluefin tuna's deep flavor and chewy texture — truly a premium cut.
Mekajiki (swordfish belly)
Mekajiki has a different charm from bluefin belly. It's soft and savory, with a texture that seems to melt in your mouth — a satisfying cut for anyone who loves fatty sushi.
Engawa (halibut fin)
Engawa builds a savory flavor the more you chew. Its chewy yet slightly crisp texture becomes a fun contrast among the softer fatty cuts.
Salmon belly
Salmon belly is, as always, familiar and never fails. Salmon's clean, savory flavor combined with the belly's soft fattiness makes for a moist bite. Salmon lovers will enjoy this without exception.
Seasonal belly cut with ankimo (monkfish liver)
The last piece I tried was the seasonal fatty fish topped with ankimo. The savory taste of the seasonal fatty fish combined with ankimo's rich, smooth flavor made for the most memorable combination — a single piece with a strong presence.

More than sushi: grilled salmon, tempura and mini udon
While savoring the sushi piece by piece, warm grilled salmon was also served along the way. Freshly grilled salmon was moist and clean-tasting — a different kind of appeal from the sushi.

Then to finish it off, tempura and mini udon too... it really felt like a proper full spread. It wasn't just 10 pieces of sushi and done — with seasonal porridge, salad, grilled fish, tempura, and udon all together, it felt even more filling. I came for a solo lunch but ended up feeling treated. Maybe that's why the name 'Hwangje' (emperor) fits it even better, haha.

Of course, Hwangje Sushi is a bit pricier than your typical casual sushi restaurant. But considering the generously sized neta, aged sushi, diverse fish varieties, premium cuts, and hearty standard sides, it's better approached not as a simple cheap sushi joint but as a place to enjoy proper aged sushi generously.

Anyone who enjoys not just standard flounder and salmon sushi but also engawa, mekajiki, sea urchin, sweet shrimp, mackerel, or sea bass will likely be especially satisfied. If you're looking for a place to eat before or after a trip to Ilsan Lake Park, or somewhere for lunch between Jeongbalsan and Madu stations, I'd recommend Hwangje Sushi. It's an Ilsan sushi restaurant that suits everything from solo dining to family meals, dates, work dinners, and group gatherings.
