Gyeongju café by Hilton Bomun with kid-friendly terrace: Bibibidang

In short

Bibibidang Gyeongju is a tea and coffee café on the 1st floor of the Uyang Museum in Bomun, Gyeongju. Arriving right at the 10:00 opening with family, we took an outdoor terrace table and ordered a café latte (7,500 won), cheongwol cream matcha (8,500 won) and iced tea (7,000 won), each served with yanggaeng (sweet red bean jelly) and chocolate. The matcha latte was rich without being bitter so the kids drank it happily, and with free Hilton Hotel parking Bibibidang Gyeongju is an easy first stop on a Gyeongju trip.

Bibibidang, a café at the Uyang Museum in Gyeongju — a café latte and a matcha latte.

Two drinks at Bibibidang Gyeongju: café latte and matcha latte

Hi, this is Classic Butler. My family put together a Gyeongju trip in a hurry. Before starting the trip I wanted a cup of coffee, so I went back to Bibibidang on the 1st floor of the Uyang Museum in Gyeongju, a place I'd visited before.

Where is Bibibidang Gyeongju, and what are the hours and parking?

There happened to be a Snoopy exhibit at the Uyang Museum too, so it seemed like a good spot to stop by while seeing the exhibition. We went early, almost right at opening.

So unlike when it's crowded, we got to fully enjoy Bibibidang's own quiet atmosphere.

The outdoor terrace at Bibibidang on a breezy autumn morning

Bibibidang Gyeongju has both indoor and outdoor terrace seating, and we sat outside on the terrace. The heat had completely faded and an autumn breeze was blowing — just days earlier it had been so hot, and now the weather was cool as if that heat never happened.

The breeze was quite refreshing, so we chose the outdoor terrace over the indoor seating. Sitting on the terrace with a cup of coffee in hand, it felt genuinely relaxing.

It was even better because there were barely any people around at that hour. We ordered a café latte, a matcha cream latte, and iced tea.

It wasn't just the drinks — small desserts came along with them too.

Nut-studded chocolate and seasonal yanggaeng

The matcha latte came with yanggaeng, and the other drinks were paired with chocolate studded with nuts. Even though a little dessert like this seems like nothing much, it's honestly a nice little boost — good for nibbling while sipping the drinks.

The yanggaeng served with the drinks was better than expected

Bibibidang Gyeongju's seasonal yanggaeng (sweet red bean jelly) comes with the cheongwol cream matcha, and it wasn't very sweet. Honestly, if yanggaeng is too sweet, I usually don't reach for a second bite — but this one wasn't overly sweet, which made it even better.

A piece of Bibibidang Gyeongju's seasonal yanggaeng

It was chewy but the sweetness didn't linger too long in my mouth. I actually wanted to eat another piece after finishing it. It paired really well with the matcha latte too.

Is the cheongwol cream matcha bitter? Rich but kid-friendly

Bibibidang Gyeongju's cheongwol cream matcha has a strong matcha aroma but isn't very bitter, so even the kids drank it happily. Given how deep the color was, I expected the kids to refuse it. But it turned out less bitter than expected and not overly sweet either, so they said it was delicious and drank it right up.

A cup of deep green cheongwol cream matcha

The matcha aroma was strong but it didn't leave a chalky or overly bitter feeling in the mouth. Even people who usually avoid matcha because of its characteristic bitterness could probably drink this one comfortably.

Iced tea the kids finished in minutes

The iced tea (₩7,000) had tiny jelly bits in it. Having something to chew on made it more fun to drink than a plain sweet iced tea. The kids must have loved it, because they finished it in no time. I wanted to taste it too, but it was already gone.

The café latte at Bibibidang: nutty and strong

The café latte I had blended the nutty flavor of milk with coffee aroma nicely. It wasn't so strong that it turned bitter, but it also wasn't so milk-heavy that it tasted watery.

It was just right for an easy morning coffee. Drinking it on the terrace with the cool breeze made it taste even better.

Can you visit Bibibidang without the Uyang Museum or Hilton?

Bibibidang is on the 1st floor of the Uyang Museum, but you don't have to be seeing the exhibition or staying at the Hilton to get in.

Outdoor passage connecting the Uyang Museum and the Hilton Hotel

We stopped by the café and then took a slow walk around the area, and it's perfect as a stroll course too. Since it's connected with the Hilton Hotel, the grounds are spacious and the landscaping is nice, so it's good for walking.

With free parking support too, bringing a car wasn't inconvenient at all. If you're looking for a quiet café during a Gyeongju trip, or need somewhere to rest a moment around Bomun, it's worth stopping by.

Starting a last-minute Gyeongju trip slowly in Bomun

I thought our hastily planned Gyeongju trip would start off frantic, but having a cup of coffee at Bibibidang let us set off a little more slowly.

The Bibibidang Gyeongju terrace, a stop before starting the trip

Going right at opening time meant almost no one else was there and the terrace was quiet, which was great. The café latte was nutty, the matcha latte was strong but not bitter, and the kids really drank up the iced tea. Next time we come to see an exhibition at the Uyang Museum, I think we'll stop by Bibibidang again.
