When I'm craving hot soup in Sejong, ppyeohaejangguk (pork bone soup) is one of the dishes I turn to often.
Especially as mornings and evenings start cooling down a bit, there's nothing quite as satisfying as picking meat off a big bone in a spicy, hearty broth.
This time I visited Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk's Cheotmaeul branch, located in Cheotmaeul, Hansol-dong, Sejong.

Finding Chungsilok in Hansol-dong, Sejong
Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk's Cheotmaeul branch is right across from the Hansol-dong post office. With big signs reading 'Chungsilok Gamjatang' and 'Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk' out front, it wasn't hard to spot.

At the entrance there was even a plaque noting an award for excellence in the soup category from the 2024 KCIA Korea Consumer Industry Evaluation in Sejong. Seeing that kind of thing does make you a little curious about what the place is like.
How much cheaper is gamjatang as takeout?
Out front there's a big sign advertising a takeout discount on gamjatang.
Gamjatang has different prices for eating in versus taking out:
- Gamjatang small ₩28,000 → takeout ₩24,000
- Gamjatang medium ₩42,000 → takeout ₩36,000
- Gamjatang large ₩56,000 → takeout ₩48,000
If you're eating at home with family or sharing with a group, ordering gamjatang for takeout looks like a good option.
Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk menu and prices
Looking at the menu board, the signature dishes are naturally ppyeohaejangguk and gamjatang.

Chungsilok's ppyeohaejangguk is ₩11,000, rice included.
Gamjatang comes in small ₩28,000 (for 2), medium ₩42,000 (for 3), and large ₩56,000 (for 4). Rice is not included with gamjatang.
Add-ons include rice ₩1,000, ramen noodles ₩2,000, glass noodles ₩2,000, potato ₩3,000, dumpling dough ₩2,000, fried rice ₩4,000, and more.
It's hard to resist finishing off a gamjatang meal with fried rice. If you want more bones, you can add 3–4 extra bones for ₩11,000.
The menu board notes 3 hours of free parking, and extra side dishes and aprons are available at the self-serve bar.
A dining room wide enough for family meals
Stepping inside, the restaurant was bigger than I expected.
The tables weren't cramped together, and with seating ranging from 4-person tables to larger group tables, it looked comfortable for family meals or visits with several people.

It's also convenient that every table has a tablet for ordering.
During busy times like lunch, being able to order without flagging down staff is definitely handy these days.
Kimchi and kkakdugi from the self-serve bar
At a pork bone soup restaurant, kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) matter just as much as the main dish.

Chungsilok's self-serve bar had napa cabbage kimchi, kkakdugi, peppers, onions, ssamjang, and more.
Rather than piling on a huge amount at the start, it's better to take what you'll eat and go back for more if needed.

A spoonful of ppyeohaejangguk followed by a cool, crisp piece of kkakdugi is a combination that needs no explanation.
A stone pot filled with Chungsilok's pork bone soup
My ppyeohaejangguk arrived. Even from the photo you can tell the stone pot was quite generously filled.

Big bones and napa cabbage sat inside, topped with green onion and seasoning. From the moment it arrived, it looked like the kind of bowl that would leave you full.
With ppyeohaejangguk, part of the fun is picking the meat off the bone piece by piece.

Eating the meat with the hot broth, and mixing in cabbage and kimchi along the way, the bowl disappears fast.
Rather than stirring in all the seasoning right away, it's also good to taste the broth first and adjust to your liking.
Worth it in Sejong's Cheotmaeul, from a solo lunch to a family dinner
Chungsilok doesn't really try to show off with flashy dishes — it felt more like a place to go when you want hearty Korean food like ppyeohaejangguk or gamjatang without any fuss.
Going alone, a bowl of ppyeohaejangguk works well; with two or three or more people, ordering gamjatang with extra noodles and fried rice is a good choice too.
The spacious dining room, self-serve bar, and 3 hours of free parking all make it an easy place to eat.

Given how many lunch menus these days run well past ₩10,000, it's worth noting that ppyeohaejangguk with rice included is ₩11,000 here.

If you're craving a hot, hearty bowl of soup near Hansol-dong or Cheotmaeul in Sejong, this is worth a stop. If you're searching for Sejong Cheotmaeul pork bone soup, Hansol-dong gamjatang, or a good haejangguk spot in Sejong, Chungsilok Ppyeohaejangguk's Cheotmaeul branch is worth checking out.
