Songpanaru bar with cheese fried rice and gopchang hot pot: Horanggul

In short

Horanggul Bangi Branch is an izakaya-style beef gopchang (intestine) hot pot bar tucked inside the Bangi-dong dining alley in Songpa, Seoul, a 7-minute walk from Songpanaru Station. Two servings of the spicy beef gopchang and daechang hot pot came out as sharply spicy as Shin Ramyun, with tender gopchang and no off-smell, and one serving of cheese fried rice was stir-fried in the leftover broth. Horanggul Bangi Branch is a solid pick for group dinners and gatherings in Bangi-dong.

I went to Horanggul Bangi Branch, an izakaya-style bar in the Bangi-dong dining alley.

Horanggul apparently does 1.5 billion won in annual revenue and is Korea's first daechang (large intestine) hot pot specialty restaurant! Horanggul Bangi Branch is their 3rd location, and they make beef daechang hot pot with fresh ingredients following the exact recipe learned in Japan! We went all out with beef gopchang hot pot and cheese fried rice and left completely satisfied, down to the last bite.

There was a Blue Ribbon Survey certification plaque for two years running, so I figured we couldn't go wrong haha. Horanggul Bangi Branch, tucked inside the Bangi-dong dining alley, confidently bills itself as a daechang specialty restaurant.

Booth seats and individual burners: the izakaya mood at Horanggul

The inside of Horanggul Bangi Branch had a deep wood-tone, Japanese-style interior with strong izakaya energy. It felt like we'd gone on a trip! With booth seating and individual burners at each table, it seemed like a great spot for a Bangi-dong work dinner too!

And every little prop and decoration was nicely done with a Japanese feel!

Spicy beef gopchang and daechang hot pot for two: how hot is it?

We sat by the window in a great spot for atmosphere and ordered the beef gopchang & daechang hot pot (Shin Ramyun-level spicy!) for two, plus a Coke, a Sprite, and one cheese fried rice. The hot pot came out loaded with beef gopchang, tofu, and mushrooms.

The broth was spicy yet clean, the kind of taste that kept me reaching for the Coke! (shoutout to my fellow Coke lovers) With so many ingredients in it, it had a deep, rich flavor, and as it kept simmering it got thicker and even more delicious! I'm a rice-with-meat person so I really needed rice, but I got so caught up scooping gopchang, tofu, and broth that I forgot all about it!

The gopchang had zero off odor and was so tender it would make a great drinking snack too. We're not big drinkers so we had it with soft drinks, but it was still amazing as a meal! And even though we ordered spicy, it wasn't overwhelming — just the right kind of sharp, spicy-good. It's about Shin Ramyun level, so if you're good with spice, you could probably go up a level from there.

Why the cheese fried rice finish is a must-order at Horanggul

After we'd eaten almost all of the hot pot, we came to our senses and finished off with cheese fried rice made from the leftover broth with cheese and rice mixed in — perfect haha. You have to order the fried rice, no question. Rice soaked in that broth plus cheese on top made for a savory, deep flavor.

It was so good we scraped the pan clean to the bottom! : ) You really have to try the fried rice!!
