A Friday night friends' dinner at Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch

Today I had a get-together with my college friends. I'd eaten at Gogi 9dan before and remembered how clean the side dishes were and, above all, how fresh the meat was, so I decided to come back again. Let's get right into the review haha!

Where is Gogi 9dan Chimsan, and where do you park?

• Hours: Daily 11:30–21:50, last order 21:00, break time 15:00–17:30
• Other: Reservations, wifi, kids' facilities (play room), separate men's/women's restrooms, group seating, high chairs, waiting area, easy payment, parking

There's dedicated parking on the first floor of the building, and the restaurant itself is on the second floor.

If you're taking public transit, it's about a 300m walk from Exit 1 of Daegu Station, so you can visit comfortably even without a car. The Chimsan 2-dong Community Welfare Center is right next door too, so a friend visiting from out of town said it was easy to find. Now let's head inside!!

Inside Gogi 9dan Chimsan: partitioned seats and high chairs

The inside was bigger and cleaner than I expected, so it seemed like a solid choice for nearby office workers' company dinners or gatherings too. I visited on a Friday evening, and since I'd reserved ahead, we sat down right away without waiting. I even changed my reservation time twice due to personal circumstances, and the Gogi 9dan staff were still so kind about it... I'm sorry and thankful :)

The tables were spaced generously apart and separated by partitions, so it seemed like a comfortable, cozy spot to spend time with the friends I came with haha. There were also high chairs ready, and I saw quite a few families visiting with kids!

What's at the dessert corner?

The restrooms were separated for men and women, which was nice and clean, and the dessert corner had everything from plum tea to iced coffee, instant coffee, and ppeongtwigi (puffed rice snacks). You could even buy extra ppeongtwigi, and it was so much tastier than expected that I kept reaching for more haha. There were also ice cups in the freezer next to it, so you could pour yourself a cold drink of your choice. A grill restaurant with a fully stocked dessert corner too — isn't that killing two birds with one stone haha.

Gogi 9dan menu and what comes in the 9-course set

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, a well-known spot in Buk-gu, Daegu, has a full lineup of both beef and pork menus. From nuruk salt-cured fresh ribs to anchangsal (skirt steak), flower short rib, hwangje galbisal, seokcheong galbi, instant seasoned galbi, and even fresh pork belly and fresh pork neck — plenty to choose from depending on your taste.

We ordered the 9-course set, famous for being great value! It comes with hanwoo beef tartare, pork kimchi stew, spicy jjolmyeon noodles, fresh wasabi, and sushi — so many things to pair with the meat. For meat, we ordered 500g + 250g of flower short rib (kkotgalbisal).

The side dishes: japchae and seasoned raw crab

Once we ordered the meat, the basic table setting came out generously loaded, and I was surprised to see even japchae (glass noodle stir-fry) and yangnyeom gejang (spicy seasoned crab) included haha.

Every single side dish came out neat and clean, and it made me think this would be a great spot to visit with family for a parent's birthday or a special anniversary.

The yangnyeom gejang in particular is refillable once, and the sweet-spicy sauce had no fishy taste at all — it was really delicious. It hit exactly my taste, so if you love seasoned crab, you have to try it 😋

How did the 500g + 250g flower short rib taste?

The moment it hit the grill, savory juices sizzled up right away, and the first bite just melted in my mouth...🤤 My friends who came with me all enjoyed it so much too, which made me happy.

This is the beef tartare that comes with the 9-course set. It was fresh and delicious, and it paired really well with the pork stew and jjolmyeon that came alongside it, you know?

We ate well right up to the very end~~

Is Gogi 9dan Chimsan worth it for a group dinner?

Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch is known as a great-value grill restaurant, and usually when people say 'good value,' the food quality or service can fall a little short — but Gogi 9dan exceeded my expectations. The meat was fresh and delicious, and every single side dish came out neat and clean, so I kept reaching for more as I tried them one by one haha. From price to taste to composition, it was satisfying all around, so personally I highly, highly recommend it! 😆 If you love meat, Gogi 9dan Chimsan Direct Branch, a Buk-gu, Daegu favorite, is well worth a visit :)
