Eunpyeong Korean BBQ with anchovy-brined garlic: Yukjjip, Seoul
In short
Yukjjip is a Korean BBQ restaurant on Bulgwangcheon-gil in Eunpyeong, Seoul, just across the bridge from Eungam Station Exit 4. On a third visit, the order was three servings of whole pork belly (tongsamgyeop) plus a yeolmu bibimbap and doenjang jjigae set, with staff grilling the meat from start to finish and garlic steeped in anchovy brine and salted shrimp relish on the side. Yukjjip suits both family meals and work dinners, and the doenjang jjigae is worth adding.

Where is Yukjjip, and what are its hours?
Yukjjip is a Korean BBQ restaurant at 558 Bulgwangcheon-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, South Korea, on the 1st and 2nd floors. It's right across the bridge from Eungam Station Exit 4. It's open daily from 12:00 to 24:00, with last order at 23:00. Restrooms are indoors — men's on the 1st floor, women's on the 2nd. For parking, I'd recommend the nearby public lot or the E-mart lot, about a 7-minute walk away.

Today I visited Yukjjip, a Korean BBQ spot near Eungam Station! This was actually my third visit — and if it's my third time, that says it all, right?! I went on a weekday around 6pm and got seated right away with no wait. Apparently if you visit before 6pm on a weekday, you get a free handmade sausage or doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew)!
Yukjjip's menu: whole pork belly or the mixed platter?
Yukjjip's menu

Yukjjip's signature menu item is the mixed platter, but since I love pork belly the most, I ordered three servings of pork belly. I tried the mixed platter on a previous visit and it was clean-tasting and delicious! If you want to enjoy gabrisal, pork neck, and pork belly all together, the mixed platter is the way to go.

Ordering is done through the table-order tablet at each table. The mixed platter comes with an even mix of gabrisal, pork belly, and pork neck. And the ₩1,000 soju / ₩2,000 bottled beer promotion, which was originally only running through the end of August, has apparently been extended through the end of October!
Yukjjip's banchan: green onion kimchi and anchovy-brined garlic
The basic banchan setup.

Yukjjip's basic banchan setup arrived. The side dishes are green onion kimchi, white kimchi, myeoljeot (salted anchovy brine), seasoned bean sprouts, and salted shrimp relish — it's not that common for a BBQ place to serve both green onion kimchi and myeoljeot, so it was extra nice to pair with the meat. Dipping garlic in the myeoljeot brings out its flavor and removes the fishy taste, which made the pork belly even more delicious!
Three servings of whole pork belly, grilled by Yukjjip's staff
Three servings of Yukjjip's whole pork belly

Yukjjip's whole pork belly has a nice balance of fat and lean meat. It uses pork from Jirisan, so you really get the pork's own flavor without any gamey smell!
At Yukjjip, staff grill everything for you from start to finish so you can eat it warm the whole time. All you have to do is eat...

The vegetables the staff grilled were eggplant, king oyster mushroom, and garlic scapes — they grill these before the meat, so they're great as a garnish. They're not pre-seasoned, so dipping them in salt gives a nice salty kick that whets your appetite.

Once fully grilled, the meat is placed on a tray for you, so you really just have to eat. If the meat cools down, they can move the whole tray back onto the grill, so you can keep eating it piping hot ~,~

The order to eat Yukjjip's pork belly in
- Start off by dipping just in salt, as shown on the table-order screen
- Pair with myeongi namul (wild garlic leaves)
- Eat with the addictive salted shrimp relish for triple the flavor
- Also try it with garlic soaked in myeoljeot
Is the doenjang jjigae and yeolmu bibimbap set worth it?
Doenjang jjigae & yeolmu bibimbap

We ordered the hearty set of yeolmu bibimbap (young radish greens mixed rice) and doenjang jjigae! It wouldn't feel complete to have meat without rice and stew, right?
A bubbling stone pot of spicy, clean-tasting doenjang jjigae. Rather than being overly intense, it tasted like homemade doenjang stew your grandmother would make, and my mom kept saying how delicious it was too.
Mixing up the bibimbap with enthusiasm.

The bibimbap isn't pre-seasoned, so adding gochujang (red chili paste) and mixing it thoroughly makes it taste amazing. The portion is over 1.5 servings, so it's really generous — even three people sharing it would have plenty.
Final verdict on Yukjjip
I'd recommend this Korean BBQ spot to anyone in Eungam looking for a cozy family meal or a work dinner. I'd definitely go back, and make sure to order the doenjang jjigae!
