On days when I'm craving meat, nothing really beats pork galbi (marinated short ribs). Today I visited Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch in Seosin-dong, Jeonju.

They sell everything from beef galbi to pork galbi, so there's plenty to choose from depending on your taste, and the space is quite large, making it a good option for group dinners or family outings. This time I went for my favorite — pork galbi.

Where is Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch, and where do you park?

Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch sits right on a main road in Seosin-dong near Lotte Department Store, so it wasn't hard to find even on my first visit. The store sign is large and easy to spot from the street.

If you're driving, you can worry a little less about parking. There's a K Parking Lot right across the street from the restaurant. It's free for 1 hour at lunch and 2 hours in the evening, they said. Parking can be tough when eating out in Seosin-dong, so having this lot available was a relief.

A wide hall and self-service bar built for group dinners

Walking inside Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch, the whole place felt clean and spacious. There were plenty of tables and the space itself was generous, making it look like a good fit for groups.

If you're looking for a Seosin-dong Korean BBQ restaurant that also works as a group dinner spot, this one's worth noting. The high ceiling and one wall of floor-to-ceiling windows kept it from feeling closed in, and the ventilation and air conditioning were solid, so the meal stayed fairly comfortable even while grilling meat.

There's also a well-stocked self-service bar in one corner.

Menu lineup and how half-plate orders work

The menu at Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch is split into beef and pork. Beef options include raw galbi and seasoned galbi; pork options are the same, raw and seasoned. Nicely, you can order half plates instead of committing to a full one.

After the meat, there was a good range of finishing menu items too — kimchi-mari noodles, mul-naengmyeon, hanwoo yukhoe bibim-naengmyeon, and bean sprout haejang stew, all good for eating alongside the meat or wrapping up the meal. For someone like me who likes trying a little bit of everything, the half-plate option was a great choice.

The side dishes, starting with steamed egg

After ordering the meat, the basic side dishes started arriving one by one — steamed egg, dongchimi, seasoned bean sprouts, pa-kimchi, and various other accompaniments.

The steamed egg in particular had a soft, fluffy texture, good for a spoonful or two while waiting for the meat. The whole spread of side dishes went well with the meat, and the overall table felt generous.

How did the seasoned pork galbi taste?

What I ordered today was the seasoned pork galbi at Ubookgeum Saenggalbi Seosin Branch.

As the pork galbi started browning on the grill, a sweet ribs aroma rose up and really got my appetite going.

One bite in, the sauce was sweet and salty, and it had soaked well into the meat, making it a good match for rice too.

Personally, pork galbi that's too sweet gets old fast for me, but here the saltiness came through too, so alternating with the side dishes kept me reaching for more. If you're in Seosin-dong looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant for pork galbi or a group dinner, I'd say this one's worth stopping by.
