Yakisoba and chicken steak at Seoul Forest Japanese spot: Oshi Black

In short

Oshi Black Seongsu is an okonomiyaki and yakisoba teppan restaurant in the basement of a brick building on Atelier-gil, next to Seoul Forest in Seongdong, Seoul. After a walk in Seoul Forest we ordered the Oshi Yakisoba (15.0) and the Kuro Tori Steak (15.0), both served hot on the tabletop iron plate, and the special mayo sauce with shredded green onion was the best part. There was no wait, and the wide gaps between tables make Oshi Black Seongsu easy for a date, a group, or a solo meal.

Oshi Black Seongsu turned out to be a really popular Japanese restaurant near Seoul Forest, known for okonomiyaki, yakisoba, and other teppan dishes! So after walking around Seoul Forest, we decided to stop by 😊

Stairway entrance leading down to Oshi Black Seongsu's basement

Oshi Black Seongsu sits right next to Seoul Forest on Atelier-gil, so it's walkable from Seoul Forest, Ttukseom, and Seongsu stations! It's in the basement of a brick building, so you just go down a short flight of stairs. Being such a popular spot, there's a Catch Table waiting device at the entrance, and it looked like there's a wait during peak hours! Luckily, we got in with no wait 😉

The memo-covered entrance wall and the room inside

The entrance wall at Oshi Black Seongsu is covered with memos left by visitors. Inside, the lighting is dim and tables are spaced far apart, making it easy to talk.

Also new to me — the entrance wall is covered with tons of memos?! Looking closer, they were answers visitors had written to a question prompt when they came to Oshi 🥺 Reading through them one by one was actually really fun haha.

Here's what the inside looks like~ It's a little dim, giving it a moody atmosphere plus proper Japanese-restaurant interior 🩶 Inside wasn't loud, and it was quiet enough, plus the tables were spaced far apart so it was easy to talk 🖤 There were plenty of seats, from group tables good for gatherings and dates to bar seating good for eating alone or watching the cooking!! The place was clean and everyone was really kind 👐

Every table also had a little question sheet! Along with the menu, they gave us a tangy-spicy pickle as a side dish :)

Each table has a large teppan grill right in the middle, plus plates, wet wipes, utensils, and even a review-event coupon. The grill was clean too — the staff were really thorough about wiping down each table's grill haha.

What's on the menu at Oshi Black Seongsu, and what we ordered

Oshi Black Seongsu's signature dish is Oshinomiyaki, which comes with many topping options, and among the yakisoba dishes, the yakisoba pork belly roll is the popular pick. We ordered one Oshi Yakisoba (15.0) and one Kuro Tori Steak (15.0).

For reference on menu and prices — the signature Oshinomiyaki really did come with a huge variety of toppings! There were also several kinds of yakisoba, and the yakisoba pork belly roll seemed to be the popular one 🤤 They also had karaage, croquettes, tori steak, and more! Prices weren't too high and everything looked delicious, so it was hard to decide what to order 😸

We ordered one Oshi Yakisoba (15.0) and one Kuro Tori Steak (15.0)!

How does the Oshi Yakisoba (15.0) taste?

Oshi Yakisoba is the most basic yakisoba on Oshi Black Seongsu's menu, and it comes already cooked, kept hot on the tabletop grill. It's topped with shrimp, squid, meat, bean sprouts, cabbage, and a fried egg.

First up, the Oshi Yakisoba! 🥡 There are several kinds of yakisoba, and Oshi Yakisoba is the most basic one — it comes already cooked, so you can eat it while it stays hot on the grill ☺️ The noodles were stir-fried savory and well-seasoned, loaded with shrimp, squid, meat, bean sprouts, cabbage, and topped with a fried egg! 🍳 The heart-shaped green onion on top of the runny yolk was so cute lol. The noodles were just right and the sauce had a sweet-savory balance that made it really delicious 💗 Highly recommend the Oshi Yakisoba 👍👍!!

It gets even better with a drizzle of the special mayo sauce, which has a bit of tanginess 🤍 Writing this is making me want it again 🤤 The popular yakisoba pork belly roll also looked delicious!

How does the Kuro Tori Steak (15.0) taste?

Kuro Tori Steak is Oshi Black Seongsu's chicken steak, flavored with black pepper sauce and rosemary. It comes with a generous amount of chicken and stir-fried shredded green onion on the side.

Next up, the Kuro Tori Steak! 🍗 It's a chicken steak flavored with black pepper sauce and rosemary — the look of it alone was amazing ✨

As an event perk, you can apparently get a cute bear-shaped birthday candle too! 🐻

The portion of chicken was quite generous, and the meat, grilled golden with a nice smoky char, was so tender and delicious 😊 The black pepper flavor came through nicely, and the special sauce mixed in made it even better. Plus, the shredded green onion stir-fried alongside it was such a perfect pairing! 🤭 Also highly recommend the Kuro Tori Steak 👍👍ㅡ I'm craving it again already... 😋

Mint candy in a heart-shaped case

After the meal, they give you mint candy too! The heart-shaped case was so pretty 🩷 A perfect finish to clear your palate haha.
