Live sweet shrimp sashimi has been taking over my algorithm lately...! I kept seeing it and got so curious that I went to check it out. I visited Rigo Susan in Jeonpo, and since it's in one of the hottest spots in the area, it was easy to find haha.

Right from the entrance there was a big sign announcing that live sweet shrimp sashimi had arrived, so I was already excited before even going in!
Inside the restaurant and the seating
The interior stretches back deep, so it was more spacious and comfortable than I expected! Most of the tables seat four, and the gaps between them were wide enough that I could eat without worrying about the neighboring table, which I loved haha.

There were also some 2-person seats scattered in between, so it's a great spot for two people too!

The kiosk menu and what I ordered
You order through a kiosk. It looked like they mainly sell seasonal menu items! When I visited there were options like fresh gizzard shad sashimi, a live shrimp full set, assorted aged sashimi, assorted aged sashimi + sweet shrimp / tiger shrimp, and even side dishes like mackerel bo-sushi (rolled sushi).
I ordered the assorted aged sashimi + live sweet shrimp sashimi small set for ₩59,000!

While waiting, caramel popcorn came out, and I was just popping pieces one by one when the food arrived pretty quickly.

A tray piled high with banchan
While waiting for the order, the banchan (side dishes) arrived! It came out on a tray absolutely loaded, so generous...! The side dishes alone filled the whole table.

Crispy fried squid and sweet potato came out, along with California rolls and spicy tteokbokki (stir-fried rice cakes)!

Then grilled shrimp lettuce wraps, and the corn cheese and okonomiyaki that no sashimi restaurant can be without — such a wide variety!

And then cold udon and a vegetable salad! You can eat the vegetables plain, but with the chogochujang (vinegared chili paste) they can be enjoyed like a sashimi bibim salad, which I loved! And the cold udon was so good I kept reaching for more!

Assorted aged sashimi + live sweet shrimp sashimi small set
The assorted aged sashimi + live sweet shrimp sashimi small set arrived! There were four different kinds of aged sashimi, so I got to try a nice variety!

The legs on the live sweet shrimp sashimi were still moving
First up, the one I was most excited about — the live sweet shrimp sashimi..! There were 6 shrimp total, and since they were clearly just caught, the legs were still moving, which made me feel so bad haha.

Getting ready to eat by removing all the heads...!! You can set the heads aside and ask for them to be fried up later!

The live sweet shrimp sashimi was REALLY delicious...! The shrimp itself had a lovely springy texture, and the natural sweetness was incredible! Dipped lightly in soy sauce, the combination of soy sauce and the shrimp's sweetness was just the best. I want to come back next time for a whole plate of just the sweet shrimp sashimi!
Four kinds of aged sashimi: flounder, salmon, yellowtail, red seabream
The assorted aged sashimi came in four different kinds! The color alone looked so good that I wanted to dig in right away.
Flounder, salmon, yellowtail, and red seabream! Even though it's the small set, I got to taste a good variety, which I loved!

Heads all removed from the sweet shrimp sashimi, now really ready to eat...!!

The live sweet shrimp sashimi was amazing, but the aged sashimi itself was also really good! The slices were cut to just the right thickness, giving them a great texture along with the umami that's characteristic of aged sashimi! I ate it plain and also wrapped in lettuce!

Sushi rice was also served, so I piled the sashimi on top and made my own neat little hand-rolled sushi haha.

Finishing with fried shrimp heads
Last but not least, the fried shrimp heads arrived...! They were fried so crispy that I could eat almost the whole thing except for the hardest horn part at the top — nutty and delicious!
In summary
⭐⭐ A must-visit in Jeonpo for aged sashimi and live sweet shrimp sashimi! Not just the sashimi but the sides come out so generously too, making it great for a group visit, and with so many delicious anju (drinking snacks), it's also perfect for having a few drinks! Highly recommend if you want to enjoy a hearty sashimi feast in Jeonpo — this is my pick for a Jeonpo sashimi restaurant!
