It's finally that season for raw shrimp sashimi again 🦐 Every year around this time I start craving that plump, bouncy texture. This time I went to Rigo Susan, a Jeonpo bar/restaurant in Busan where you can get super fresh raw shrimp sashimi! For anyone looking for a good spot in Jeonpo to eat sashimi with a drink, here's my detailed review of the menu, the raw shrimp sashimi, and the live-fish sashimi I tried :)
Rigo Susan's exterior and location — how close is it to Jeonpo Station?

Rigo Susan, the place near Jeonpo Station that's always packed — I'd been curious about it forever! It's located close to Jeonpo Station, so it's easy to get to. I pass by this area a lot and every single time the place is buzzing with customers. Every time I walked past I wondered, what's so good about this place that it's always this busy? So this time I finally visited haha

Visiting at weekday opening time — any waiting?
Since we wanted to eat without waiting, we timed our visit for weekday opening hours, and sure enough, being early meant the restaurant was quiet and we could sit wherever we liked comfortably — loved that! That said, it's usually pretty busy whenever I pass by, and I heard weekends are often fully booked, so if you want to avoid the crowded hours, I'd recommend a weekday visit :) If you're looking for a spot in Jeonpo for fresh sashimi and a drink, the location makes it easy to get to as well.
Rigo Susan menu and ordering — the raw shrimp sashimi + assorted sashimi set

You order easily using the tablet at each table. Rigo Susan's main draw is its variety of sashimi, but it seems the seasonal seafood menu changes depending on the time of year. When we visited, it happened to be prime season for raw shrimp, so there was a raw shrimp sashimi + assorted sashimi set on the menu! Since raw shrimp sashimi was exactly what I was craving that day, there was no need to think twice — we ordered it right away. It's a combo that lets you enjoy both fresh raw shrimp sashimi and several kinds of live-fish sashimi at once, perfect for people like us who like to try a bit of everything :)
Rigo Susan's basic table setup and starter snack

Soy sauce and vinegar-gochujang were already set on the table, so we didn't have to ask separately every time we ran low while eating sashimi — very convenient.

And surprisingly, the starter snack turned out to be sweet caramel popcorn haha. It was perfect for picking at bit by bit while waiting for the sashimi, sweet and crunchy so my hand kept reaching for more…🫶 I nearly polished off the whole bowl before the main sashimi even arrived haha
🍽️ A generous spread even before the main dish arrived
Before the main event — the assorted sashimi + raw shrimp sashimi — arrived, a full side spread was set down first. Wait, is this really just the "basic" set...? haha As befits a set menu, the side dishes were so varied and generous that the table was already packed, which made a great first impression.

From dishes that pair well with sashimi to warm bites, everything was packed with variety — there was already plenty to eat before the main sashimi even showed up! It really had that Jeonpo bar feel, perfect for a group to drink and pick at little dishes one by one. Especially with everything laid out like this at once, the presentation alone was exciting even before the main course. I loved that Rigo Susan doesn't just serve sashimi alone — you get a genuinely generous full spread.

Out of everything, what caught my eye first was, of course, my beloved tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and fried snacks haha 💛 I came here for sashimi, but having my favorite snack-food dishes show up too made me so happy haha. Spicy-sweet tteokbokki plus crispy fried snacks were perfect for picking at in between bites of sashimi.

They also gave us individual plates, and I carefully set out both soy sauce and vinegar-gochujang in advance haha. Now all that's left is for the main sashimi to arrive and we're ready to eat 🤤 As someone who can't give up either soy sauce or vinegar-gochujang, I scooped a generous amount of both and waited haha

And finally, the raw shrimp sashimi + assorted sashimi arrives
Finally, the raw shrimp sashimi + assorted sashimi we'd been waiting for arrived!! 🦐❤️ Honestly, since the side spread beforehand had already been so generous, I figured the main would be a modest portion, but I was surprised at just how much sashimi there was too.

Raw shrimp piled high on one side, and beneath it, salmon and various other sashimi packed in tightly — the presentation alone was a total win...✨ Combined with everything from before, the table was completely full haha. I came here looking for great raw shrimp sashimi in Busan, and being able to enjoy raw shrimp, assorted sashimi, and side dishes all together so generously made a great first impression.

I don't usually drink that often, but it would've been a shame to skip soju with a menu like this haha. Seeing the fresh raw shrimp sashimi and the assorted sashimi all piled up, I just couldn't resist, so I ended up ordering a bottle of soju! Sure enough, a bite of sashimi followed by a cold sip was the perfect combo. No regrets about that soju today... couldn't resist with raw shrimp sashimi🤭
Just how fresh was the raw shrimp sashimi?
So, how fresh was the raw shrimp sashimi... it was genuinely alive haha 🦐 It was actually flopping around on the plate, moving so vividly that it startled me a little at first haha. But seeing it move right in front of my eyes really drove home just how fresh it was. Since I came specifically for raw shrimp sashimi, this level of freshness was fully satisfying! It made total sense why so many people go looking for in-season raw shrimp sashimi these days haha
Peeling a shell off a live shrimp that's still flopping around was a bit tricky at first haha, but what can you do... with fresh shrimp like this right in front of you, you've got to eat it!! 🦐

Once I peeled the shell off properly and took the first bite, the freshness hit right away! The flesh was so plump and bouncy, with a chewy, springy texture I really loved. It also had that subtle natural sweetness unique to raw shrimp, so it was delicious even plain, but paired with a shot of soju — truly the best...💛

Ask them to fry the shrimp heads
Once you've finished eating the body of the raw shrimp, if you mention the leftover shrimp heads to the staff, they'll fry them up nice and crispy! 🦐 Everyone knows fried shrimp heads are delicious, right...? haha Fried until crispy, they're savory even eaten plain, but dipped in the tartar sauce that came alongside — absolutely the best 🤤💛

The assorted sashimi: amberjack wrapped in perilla leaf, and instant salmon sushi
It wasn't just about the raw shrimp — being able to enjoy a variety of assorted sashimi alongside was also great! In particular, I tried wrapping amberjack in a perilla leaf for a full mouthful, and the combination of savory amberjack with the fragrance of perilla was, as always, a can't-miss pairing💛 With so many types of sashimi, it was fun mixing and matching different combinations.

And for the salmon, I laid it over the rice that came with the set to make instant salmon sushi on the spot — the salmon was thick and soft, and eating it this way was a real treat! The quality rivaled a proper sushi restaurant, so I savored it right down to the last bite haha 🍣✨
Final thoughts on Rigo Susan in Jeonpo
I visited Rigo Susan in Jeonpo craving in-season raw shrimp sashimi, and I left having thoroughly enjoyed everything — raw shrimp sashimi so fresh it was still moving, a variety of assorted sashimi, a generous side spread, and even fried shrimp heads. In particular, the plump, chewy texture of the raw shrimp was my top pick from this visit 🦐💛 I'd always been curious about this place every time I passed by and saw the crowds, and trying it myself was satisfying. If you want to enjoy it at a relaxed pace, I'd recommend visiting at weekday opening time. If you're looking for a great raw shrimp sashimi spot in Busan, or a Jeonpo bar for a generous sashimi spread, I recommend Rigo Susan! I'd love to come back the next time I'm craving raw shrimp.
