Pangyo brunch café peach prosciutto endive salad: Meolmeol Pangyo

In short

Meolmeol Pangyo is a brunch, coffee and wine café with a blue-striped awning on the Baekhyeon-dong café street in Seongnam, Gyeonggi. On a weekend visit with a friend, the order was the endive salad, a fresh fruit Greek yogurt bowl, lemon cream tea, orange juice and tiramisu, and the mix of bitter endive with sweet peach and salty prosciutto was the surprise of the meal. Meolmeol Pangyo is worth a weekend table, though drivers should plan on the Baekhyeon-dong public parking lot.

My friend and I decided to meet up on the weekend, but picking a place always takes forever. This time I searched for Pangyo brunch and found a place on the Baekhyeon-dong café street with a blue-striped awning. Here's my record of visiting Meolmeol Pangyo.

First impressions of Meolmeol Pangyo on Baekhyeon-dong café street

Meolmeol Pangyo sits in an alley on the Baekhyeon-dong café street. The moment I turned into the alley, the blue-and-white striped awning caught my eye. On the glass window was a hand-drawn-looking "murmur" lettering, and below it a blue standing sign read "brunch coffee wine." If you're looking for Baekhyeon-dong brunch, you'll probably stop in front of this facade at least once.

It's good to know about parking ahead of time.

Parking notice posted at the store

Per the posted notice, if you use the Baekhyeon-dong public parking lot and bring your store receipt, you get a 1-hour discount. There was also a notice saying parking in front of other stores isn't allowed. It's easier to just ask staff about parking.

The lemon and orange water bottle and the open kitchen

I stopped for a moment while getting water.

Behind a water bottle packed with whole lemons and oranges was a sentence starting with "when life gives you lemons."

Near the kitchen I spotted baskets full of lemons and oranges, their peels looking so glossy and fresh that I decided on my drinks right then, haha.

What does the endive salad with peach and prosciutto taste like?

The most memorable menu item at Meolmeol Pangyo was the endive salad.

Pale yellow endive leaves stood upright in the bowl, with peach and raspberry prosciutto tucked between them. Underneath was a pink cream dressing dotted with dill here and there. Maybe you could call it a strawberry-yogurt-style dressing, haha. At first I wondered what on earth this would taste like — peach in a salad is hard to picture.

But on the first bite, the endive's bitter finish was followed by the peach's sweetness, then topped with the prosciutto's saltiness. The pink dressing acted as the bridge between them. To me, it was genuinely a new flavor. Using the endive leaf like a spoon to scoop up the dressing and peach together brings all three flavors in at once. That said, this could be a love-it-or-hate-it dish. I'd order it again next time for sure.

Fresh fruit Greek yogurt bowl, lemon cream tea and tiramisu

The Greek yogurt bowl was my friend's pick. She knows I usually love Greek yogurt, so she said, "Let's definitely order the thing you like." That made me unreasonably happy.

In the center of the plate sat roasted figs, with a rich layer of blueberries on one side.

On the other side was a generous helping of granola along with a lemon slice. It came with thick bread, and spreading yogurt and blueberries onto it turned out to be the best combination. For drinks, we picked lemon cream tea and orange juice.

Two glasses: lemon cream tea and orange juice

The lemon cream tea came topped with a generous dollop of cream and sprinkled lemon zest. The orange juice arrived with an orange slice and mint, using the exact same oranges I'd seen in the kitchen. Both drinks were delicious. The tiramisu we also ordered was covered in a thick layer of cocoa powder, and digging in with a spoon revealed the cream layer underneath.

Terrace seats facing the park, and one drawback

The scene that stayed with me longest at Meolmeol Pangyo was the terrace seating. Yellow tables lined up in a row, with a park right in front so the trees were fully visible. In this kind of weather, sitting on the terrace to eat would be lovely.

The one drawback was, as expected, parking. There were so many notices posted that if you bring a car, you'll need to pay some attention. If you're coming here after searching for Bundang brunch or Pangyo brunch, keep the Baekhyeon-dong public parking lot in mind ahead of time. Next time I'd like to go a bit earlier and grab a terrace seat. Among Baekhyeon-dong brunch spots, this is one I'll remember for its atmosphere for a long time.
