Suwon restaurant for truffle cream gnocchi: The European Gwanggyo

In short

The European Gwanggyo is an Italian restaurant in Suwon, Gyeonggi, serving wood-fired pizza and Western dishes. I visited at 5:30 PM for arugula, jamón, and burrata pizza plus truffle cream homemade gnocchi, and the generous gnocchi portion was especially satisfying. For a quiet dinner date, The European Gwanggyo is a great fit.

I visited The European Gwanggyo, a lovely place to go when you want high-quality wood-fired pizza in the romantic setting created by glamorous chandeliers and velvet interiors. It is a popular restaurant on Gwanggyo Café Street, where a specialist chef formerly from The Shilla Seoul presents the menu—an excellent Western-style restaurant to head to for dinner after café-hopping on a Gwanggyo date.

The European Gwanggyo: arriving before the dinner wait

Thanks to its upscale atmosphere, it was hugely popular not only as a date spot for couples but also with families. We arrived early, around 5:30 PM, before the dinner rush and enjoyed a quiet, intimate meal; as soon as it passed 6 PM, the restaurant filled up, and we almost would have had to wait.

As a popular restaurant on Gwanggyo Café Street, it is on the main road. It looked as though everyone was street-parking too, so that seemed possible. We also made our reservation through Catchtable—good thing we did!

A space with a wood-fired oven and chandeliers

As a specialist wood-fired pizza restaurant, the exterior catches your eye right away. The sight of the oven piled high with firewood somehow makes it feel even more professional.

The moment you step inside, the extravagant chandelier lighting overhead and classic velvet interior draw your eye, making you feel as if you have come to an upscale European restaurant.

The interior really does a lot of the work. Every seat had a soft chair, and the tables and spacing between seats were generous, making it comfortable for dining.

This is the view from the second floor. It seemed that the first floor opens once the second floor is full. Since it was evening and the sun was setting, the chandelier light glowed softly and made the atmosphere even more special.

Arugula, jamón, and burrata pizza with truffle gnocchi

Looking over the menu, there was an impressively varied selection of authentic wood-fired pizzas, befitting the reputation of a chef formerly from The Shilla Seoul. There were also plenty of meal options such as pasta and gnocchi, perfect as sides to pair with pizza.

This pizza had a lightly baked, non-greasy crust from the wood-fired oven, generously topped with fresh arugula and salty jamón. It was the kind of textbook dish you think of when you picture wood-fired pizza, haha.

With one bite, the outside was crisp, and the crust had that slightly charred texture and flavor that is the charm of wood-fired pizza. With fragrant basil and the distinctive saltiness of jamón turned all the way up, it had the most intense aroma and flavor of any wood-fired pizza I have had so far.

The gnocchi we ordered as a side pairing sent a rich, luxurious truffle oil aroma right to my nose the moment it landed on the table.

The generous combination, including large mushrooms and an egg, was especially impressive. At other Western-style restaurants, gnocchi portions can often feel too small, but there was truly plenty here, so it was filling and satisfying. The cream was rich and smooth, while the gnocchi itself was thick, nicely seared, and wonderfully chewy yet soft.

A meal of wood-fired pizza and gnocchi

With its glamorous interior and reasonable prices, I think this is a comfortable, reliable place for a perfect date meal. If you are looking in Suwon for an intimate restaurant with wood-fired pizza, pasta, and gnocchi, enjoy an upscale date at The European Gwanggyo on Gwanggyo Café Street.
