Suwon restaurant for spicy fresh pasta casarecce: The European
In short
The European Gwanggyo is a European-style restaurant on the Gwanggyo café street in Suwon, Gyeonggi, known for wood-fired pizza and fresh pasta. The writer shared three dishes — charcuterie oil casarecce (fresh pasta), bolognese fresh pasta lasagna, and the signature basil burrata cheese pizza — and found the casarecce's subtle spiciness cut through the richness of the oil-based pasta. Prices run a bit high, but it's a good fit for a date or a wedding-invitation gathering where you want some atmosphere.

I was looking for a nice-atmosphere European restaurant on the Gwanggyo café street, and ended up visiting The European Gwanggyo!
This place has been pretty famous for a while as a wood-fired pizza spot in Gwanggyo, so I was curious, and once I went it was way better than I expected. True to its name, the interior really nails a European vibe — chandeliers, classic paintings, wood-tone walls, and a red carpet everywhere you look, all quite lavish.
I wondered if it might be a place where the atmosphere outshines the food, but everything I ate that day was overall delicious, so the food was quite satisfying too. Not just the wood-fired pizza but the fresh pasta and lasagna were also done well, so it's a good place to order several dishes and share.
This time we tried three dishes: charcuterie oil casarecce (fresh pasta), bolognese fresh pasta lasagna, and the signature basil burrata cheese pizza 🍝🍕

Finding The European on Gwanggyo café street
📍 The European is on the Gwanggyo café street. Once you arrive out front, you can spot it right away thanks to the big sign that says THE EUROPEAN.

Even the entrance is a bit different from a typical restaurant. There's a red door as an accent point, and just standing in front of it already gives off a European feel. I also noticed a big pile of firewood stacked outside — a fitting touch for a wood-fired pizza specialist, since that's the actual firewood they use for the oven 🧐

Chandeliers, red carpet, European-style interior
Step inside and it's a cozy atmosphere. The chandelier catches your eye right away,

and instead of a minimalist, modern-style Italian restaurant, it's decorated in a more classic, European way. A large chandelier hangs from the ceiling and framed pictures and paintings are on the walls throughout.
There's a lot of wood tone throughout, so even with the fancy chandelier, it doesn't feel cold — it feels warm. I visited during the day, but the lighting and interior worked together so well that I got curious about what the evening atmosphere would be like haha.

It was also fun just looking around the place. There are so many paintings and decorations on every wall, right? haha

Even the staircase has a red carpet 😆 I think this is exactly why it's mentioned so often as a date spot. It's definitely more than just a place to eat and leave — the space itself gives off a real atmosphere...!

Once seated, the table was set up neatly too. On a marble-look table were flower-patterned plates and cutlery with wooden handles — even the tableware matched the vibe of the place well.

The European Gwanggyo's menu
Let's take a look at the menu.

The drinks were varied too, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

How's the charcuterie oil casarecce (fresh pasta)?
There were so many things I wanted to eat, but after some deliberation over the budget, this was the first dish we chose. Ta-da, this is the charcuterie oil casarecce fresh pasta.

The name might sound unfamiliar, but once you actually eat it, it's a very familiar flavor. Being fresh pasta, the noodle itself is clearly different from regular dried pasta, and combined with the charcuterie and oil base, the flavor was quite rich. But the point that made me think it was delicious was that it's slightly spicy!

How do I explain this... it kind of tastes like ramyeon seasoning too — a fancier version of ramyeon, maybe? It cut through the greasiness that's typical of oil pastas. So I think any Korean would definitely like it. The charcuterie's salty flavor plus that slight spiciness gives it a familiar taste when you eat it haha.

Bolognese fresh pasta lasagna
Second was the dish I personally was most excited about — the bolognese fresh pasta lasagna! The visuals alone are something, right? A generous amount of bolognese sauce piled on top of the lasagna, plus plenty of cheese, made it look delicious just by looking at it.
And the taste is exactly that feeling!! That familiar, reliably good lasagna taste haha. You can taste the meat and tomato flavor in the bolognese sauce, and combined with the cheese it's very familiar yet delicious!! Especially because it's fresh pasta lasagna, the texture was soft, and the sauce and noodles came together well without feeling separate.

Signature basil burrata cheese pizza
And drumroll, finally the main character — the signature basil burrata cheese pizza 🍕 Of course, if you come to a wood-fired pizza specialist, you have to have at least one pizza.

From the moment it arrived, the visuals were really good. The edges of the large dough clearly show the marks of being baked in the wood-fired oven, and the center is piled high with tomato, cheese, and basil. The burrata cheese on top especially was just insane ㅜㅜ

For wood-fired pizza, the dough is what matters most, and the edges had this savory yet chewy feel that was really good. You could taste that distinctive wood-fired aroma, and I ended up eating even the crust instead of leaving it.
And what I liked most was, of course, the basil aroma!!! The moment you take a bite, the basil scent spreads through your whole mouth — it's genuinely rich! If you like basil, I think you'll be fully satisfied. The burrata cheese is soft and nutty, and the tomato's acidity balances it out in the middle, so it wasn't as heavy as I thought it'd be.
The burrata cheese really does look soft, doesn't it. Eating the cheese and basil together on the wood-fired dough was a really good combination 👏👏👏
The European Gwanggyo — overall thoughts and prices
⭐ Overall, the food was satisfying. The three dishes we had this time each had different personalities, so it was good to order them together and share.
- Charcuterie oil casarecce (fresh pasta): subtly spicy, a style that suits Korean palates well
- Bolognese fresh pasta lasagna: soft fresh noodles with rich bolognese sauce and cheese — familiar, but definitely delicious
- Signature basil burrata cheese pizza: the distinctive wood-fired dough flavor plus burrata cheese and basil aroma — personally the most impressive
For reference, this place has seating on both the 1st and 2nd floors, plus a room space. When I visited, there were quite a few couples, and I also saw groups dining together, so it seemed like a good fit for a wedding-invitation gathering or family meal where you want a bit of atmosphere.
One thing that does come to mind, though, is the price..! Considering the atmosphere, the food, and the space altogether, the price makes sense, but it might feel a bit much if you wanted to casually drop in for lunch often.
Good days to go
- When you're craving delicious wood-fired pizza
- When you're looking for a nice-atmosphere date spot in Gwanggyo
- When you need a wedding-invitation gathering or a special meal occasion
Keeping in mind that the prices are a bit steep, the food and the atmosphere itself were quite satisfying. If you're looking for a Gwanggyo café street restaurant, a Gwanggyo wood-fired pizza restaurant, or a Gwanggyo date restaurant, this is a place worth putting on your list!
Next time I go, I want to try some of the other wood-fired pizzas too. If you like pizza, picking a menu here should be pretty fun too 🍕✨
