Solo lunch at Gwanggyo: pork tenderloin gyukatsu with Isigny butter
In short
Gyuen-dang Avenue France Gwanggyo Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant inside Avenue France, near Gwanggyo Jungang Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. Eating solo, the writer ordered the tenderloin gyukatsu set, grilled it piece by piece on a mini tabletop charcoal, and brushing on the Isigny butter they gave kept it from sticking to the grill while boosting the flavor. Chicken skin gyoza was sold out that day, but this turned out to be a solid Gwanggyo lunch spot for solo diners, families, and even blind dates.

I had some errands in Gwanggyo and was looking for somewhere good to eat solo when I found out Gyuen-dang, a gyukatsu spot, was inside Avenue France! It's been a while since I had Japanese food among Gwanggyo Jungang Station restaurants, so I went straight there and ate — here's the review.

Being a proper Japanese restaurant, the signature dishes are gyukatsu, brie cheese omurice, and rice bowls! At first glance, since it's near Ajou University, I thought these were great options for college students or families looking for a lunch spot in Gwanggyo.
Interior that works for both solo diners and groups

The interior was really clean! There were group tables for several people to sit together, and also tables that looked good for solo dining.

On the other side there were also plenty of 2–4 person tables. Families, couples, friend groups — all kinds of people were there, so I'd recommend it regardless of who you're looking for a Gwanggyo lunch spot with!
Gyuen-dang menu and prices

The menu is broadly divided into gyukatsu, omurice, rice bowls, and sides. There's a wide range — tenderloin gyukatsu, striploin gyukatsu, brie cheese and hamburg omurice, rice bowls, curry, udon, fried dishes. Prices run from the late ₩10,000s to the ₩20,000s! Since I was there solo today, I ordered one tenderloin gyukatsu. Honestly, as a cheese addict, I was really curious about the brie cheese omurice 🥹

There's also a charcoal grill ready on the table for cooking the meat~
Tenderloin gyukatsu set, grilled with Isigny butter

My tenderloin gyukatsu arrived 😆 It came as a proper set — rice, gyukatsu, miso soup, cabbage salad, and sauce — so it was nice and clean to eat! Maybe that's why some people were there for a blind date, too haha. Seems like a good place for Japanese food when dating.

Whoa, such a gorgeous sight 🥹 First time having gyukatsu since I had it in Kyoto, Japan, two years ago...!!

They gave us butter to grill with, and it was Isigny butter..!! Definitely knows their stuff, this Gwanggyo lunch spot!! Wasabi and salt too, essentials of course~

Okay, let's actually grill this. You just put it on the charcoal and grill to your preferred doneness! I put pieces on one at a time since I was worried about not controlling the grilling level.

Grilled gyukatsu, yum!!! For my first piece it had been so long since I ate it that I under-grilled it hahaha 🤣 From then on I grilled it longer, hehe. But still, it was so tender and delicious.
This time I tried it with butter, as instructed~~! I really love butter, haha. Brushing on butter and grilling meant it didn't stick to the grate, and the buttery aroma came through too, making it way tastier 👍 Butter sizzling away.

After that I just kept brushing on butter, hehe. Much more tender, more flavorful, and delicious!! Good for solo dining too, staff were kind, and they'd even relight the fire for you when it went out — this is definitely a place I'll think of again when looking for a lunch spot in Gwanggyo.

In between, I cleansed my palate with the cabbage salad and pickles.

How did the tenderloin gyukatsu taste?
The breading on the tenderloin was neither too thick nor too thin — just right, so it wasn't heavy at all and was really tasty! People who like meatier flavor and texture would probably go for the striploin, but I personally prefer soft tenderloin, so I was completely satisfied, haha. It really wasn't chewy at all. I once went out of my way to find a gyukatsu spot in Kyoto, Japan, and this seems about on par honestly haha.

Grilled in butter, the gyukatsu got even glossier and tastier 🥹 I ate it solo and wanted to order the chicken skin gyoza too, but it was sold out, so I couldn't try it.. T_T Next time I'll have to go back and try the brie cheese omurice with the chicken skin gyoza.
If you're looking for a Japanese restaurant near Gwanggyo Jungang Station, Gyuen-dang's gyukatsu is worth a visit! It's light enough for lunch or dinner, and since it's near Ajou University, it worked well for solo dining like me, family meals, couple dates, or blind dates.
