In short

Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch is a Songtan-style budae-jjigae (army stew) restaurant tucked in the alley behind Acrotel in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. The writer ordered the Songtan budae-jjigae for two with a side of pork cutlet, added ramyeon noodles from the self-serve bar, and left stuffed on ham-packed broth and freshly fried cutlet. With unlimited rice and noodle refills and clear parking info, it's a solid recommendation for a filling meal in Dujeong-dong.

Menu — the difference between Songtan and Cheongwon budae-jjigae

The menu at Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch, a well-known budae-jjigae spot in Cheonan. The signature dish comes in two versions — Songtan budae-jjigae and Cheongwon budae-jjigae — with pork cutlet as a side menu. Add-in ingredients for the stew include ham sausage, beef brisket, glass noodles, cheese, and Shin Ramyeon.

As for the difference between the two: Songtan budae-jjigae uses 1++ grade Korean beef mince for a rich, deep broth flavor, sticking faithfully to the classic Songtan style, while Cheongwon budae-jjigae starts from that same base and adds beef brisket and cheongyang chili peppers for a spicier kick. I think you can just pick based on your taste 😙

Guide on how to enjoy budae-jjigae the best way

Basic side dishes and the Songtan budae-jjigae

The basic side dishes are kimchi, seasoned bean sprouts, and stir-fried fish cake. The kimchi and bean sprouts are at the self-serve bar, and for refills of the fish cake side dish only, you just ask a staff member! By the way, the fish cake side dish is delicious haha.

I liked that the budae-jjigae came out quickly after ordering. It arrives with the lid on, and you just wait until a staff member opens it and stirs it for you.

The budae-jjigae quickly came to a delicious rolling boil! The ingredients were so generously packed in that it looked even more delicious 🤤

We grabbed ramyeon noodles from the self-serve bar and put them in right away, early on.

Close-up of the Songtan budae-jjigae packed with ham

The Songtan budae-jjigae was even more delicious because it was really packed with ham.

The ramyeon noodles cooked up nice and chewy too, so good. I highly recommend eating it with the ramyeon noodles mixed in ..⭐️

If you feel like you're running low on broth, there's a kettle of broth on each table, so you can add as much as you like.

The portion was huge too, so we ate until we were completely full. I've had budae-jjigae at plenty of places, but Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch is genuinely at the top of Cheonan's budae-jjigae scene, I think ,,🤧

Big pork cutlet and fries side dish

We also tried the side pork cutlet

The side pork cutlet seemed to be fried fresh the moment we ordered it. After a short wait it arrived, and it went great alongside the budae-jjigae. It came out clean and neat, a big cutlet with fries.

The cutlet had already been pre-cut, so it was easy to just slice it into whatever size we wanted in one direction. Hearing that crisp sound while cutting it made my mouth water before I even took a bite ..🤤

Dipping it in the sauce it came with went perfectly and made it even more delicious! If you want a hearty spread, I'd recommend adding an extra sari to the budae-jjigae, or ordering the pork cutlet as a side like we did.

Dessert coffee machine near the exit

On the way out after finishing, there's a dessert coffee machine ready as well ☕️ Cheongwon Restaurant: Cooking Budae-jjigae, Cheonan Dujeong Main Branch, a well-known budae-jjigae spot in Cheonan — this place is truly a budae-jjigae favorite 🍲, and I confidently say anyone who visits will love it, no matter their preferences!! Highly recommended for anyone wanting a great meal in Dujeong-dong ⭐️
