Korean restaurant in Gijang for weekday lunch with mom: Kkomak Hansang

A healthy meal with mom near Haedong Yonggungsa and Osiryeon

I wanted to treat mom to a healthy meal, so we went to Kkomak Hansang, a Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa and Osiryeon known for its cockle dishes. I'd been curious about this place every time I passed by, and finally got to visit.

I'd heard that the combination of dried corvina (bori gulbi) with cockle salad was especially good, so for this meal with mom I ordered the dried corvina set. In the end, the set was worth more than its ₩27,000 per person price in both taste and portion — very satisfying.

Parking, waiting, and the atmosphere

Kkomak Hansang, the Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa and Osiryeon, has underground parking, so it's an easy place to get to.

We came for a late lunch on a weekday, so there was no wait, but I've heard weekends can get busy enough that you need to line up with Catch Table.

The first floor has floor-to-ceiling windows, and the lush green view from outside is lovely.

The restaurant is spacious and pleasant, so it works well with kids, for dates, family meals, or group gatherings alike.

The seats are comfortable, and since the menu is all Korean food, it's easy to bring grandparents along too.

The menu and the dried corvina set, ₩27,000 per person

Kkomak Hansang, the Korean restaurant near Haedong Yonggungsa and Osiryeon, has a varied menu: dried corvina set, beef pancake with cockle bibimbap, cockle bibimbap set, cockle salad set, beef pancake, eggplant sweet and sour, and cockle jang. We ordered the "dried corvina set (₩27,000 per person)."

A whole table full of dishes arrived. The plump dried corvina, cockle salad, cockle jang, beef pancake, and pollack pancake all looked delicious — nothing to skip.

How big is the dried corvina?

The dried corvina was bigger than expected — honestly, this fish alone with a bowl of rice would be enough to fill you up. A satisfying size that makes the ₩27,000 per person feel worth it.

Put on the vinyl gloves, tear the corvina into bite-sized pieces, and dig in properly.

Cockle salad and fish seaweed soup

The slightly spicy cockle salad kept pulling my chopsticks back for more, and

the seaweed soup surprised me with a huge chunk of fish fillet inside. Even calling it "fish seaweed soup," I'd never seen this much fish in one before.

The golden, savory fried eggplant and soft pollack pancake rounded out the meal nicely.

How to eat it: rice soaked in cold tea water

The dried corvina is delicious plopped on top of rice soaked in cold tea water, and

eating the corvina flesh straight, without dipping it in any sauce, lets that savory, mellow, slightly briny aroma bloom in your mouth.

Why it's good to bring your parents

Kkomak Hansang, this Gijang Osiryeon Korean restaurant known for its cockle dishes, was pleasant enough to bring kids to and tidy enough to bring parents to. Mom especially loved it, which made the meal even more satisfying.

After the meal, it was nice to walk off the food in the park right out front. Next time, I'd like to try the beef pancake in addition to the dried corvina. If you're looking for a restaurant near Haeundae or Songjeong to take your parents, with good parking, taste, and service all in one, I'd recommend giving this place a visit.
