Boneless hangover soup at a Suwon Korean restaurant: Jeju Eunhuine

Whenever I have lunch with my boyfriend, I want to feed him something delicious, so I’m always debating what to eat~ We were wondering what to have that day too, and maybe because the weather had turned chilly, we both wanted a warm bowl of soup.

So we had Jeju Eunhuine Haejangguk (제주은희네해장국) for the first time in a while, haha. We’re a couple who loves gukbap (rice soup), so when we eat it, we really care about whether there are plenty of ingredients in the bowl.

This Eunhuine near Suwon City Hall had plenty of ingredients, and we could have extra rice without an additional charge, which was great haha.

A meal with dedicated parking out front and no break time

We drove there, and since there was a dedicated parking lot right in front of the restaurant, we parked and went straight in. Parking is always difficult whenever I go to Ingye-dong in Suwon, so it was nice not to have to worry about that here.

I also liked that there was no break time, haha. It’s nice that we can still eat here if we miss lunch a little and eat late, or suddenly crave gukbap in the evening~

We ordered from the kiosk at our table, and the menu options were more detailed than I expected, which made ordering easy~

It was easy to order exactly how we wanted because we could choose details such as whether to add dadaegi (seasoned chili paste) or leave out seonji (congealed ox blood). I prefer my gukbap mild rather than with lots of dadaegi, so I order it without it every time I come here.

So that day, I ordered boneless hangover soup without dadaegi, while my boyfriend ordered offal soup.

And we ordered one serving of dombe meat too.

For the boneless hangover soup I ordered, I think it tastes best without dadaegi~

Without the dadaegi, the broth tasted mild and wasn’t overpowering, so it was nice to eat with rice. I’m not someone who adds lots of dadaegi to gukbap, so this is almost always how I eat it when I come here haha.

Because it was boneless, it was easy to eat, and mixing the rice into the broth with all the ingredients made for a really filling lunch.

There was also one piece of seonji in the hangover soup. I’m not a huge seonji fan, so I only tried a little, but my boyfriend likes it, and his reaction was immediately different.

He said, “The seonji here is good,” as he ate it. He said it felt springy and fresh, without that distinctive smell.

Free extra rice with one main dish per person in Ingye-dong

At Eunhuine in Ingye-dong, extra bowls of rice are free when each person orders a main dish haha.

My boyfriend tends to eat a lot of rice, so that day he had one bowl and then got another.

But that still wasn’t enough, so he ate three bowls in total.

At most gukbap places, when you add extra rice, eventually there are no ingredients left and you end up eating only rice in broth. Here, though, even after three bowls of rice, there were still ingredients left until the end.

My boyfriend loved that he could keep eating rice with the offal until the meal was over.

Eunhuine dombe meat with a chewy jokbal-like texture

We were curious about the dombe meat too, so we tried it, and it was delicious with its chewy texture.

It was chewy like jokbal (braised pig’s trotter), so it was good on its own, and it paired nicely with the warm gukbap too haha.

There were power banks available inside the restaurant too, so we could charge our phones while eating if the battery was low. It may seem like a small thing, but it’s handy when you actually need it~

A filling lunch near Suwon City Hall

We each had a bowl of gukbap and shared the dombe meat that day, so it was a very filling lunch from the start. There’s dedicated parking and no break time, and if you like a hearty meal like we do, you’ll probably appreciate the free extra rice.

The next time we’re deciding on lunch near Suwon City Hall and find ourselves craving warm gukbap, I think we’ll come back again haha.
