Inside Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center: room and cleanliness
Walking inside, a spacious dining room greeted me. Some raw fish restaurants can smell a bit fishy or feel not-so-clean, but Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center was spotless! I got to enjoy the whole meal in a good mood.

Ordering the bakdal snow crab course for two
Looking at the Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center menu, I ordered the bakdal daegae course for two. I went with my mom.

The course came out right away and the spread was seriously packed! Corn cheese, boiled squid, sushi, whelk and sea squirt, pufferfish roe salad, and more.

Over twenty dishes were laid out — my chopsticks were busy before the crab even arrived! If you're the type who loves lots of side dishes (sukkidashi), Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center is the answer.

The mulhoe, right down to the chili vinegar sauce
The mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) had a lovely sweet-and-sour flavor! Pohang = mulhoe... I really wanted to try it locally at least once, and somehow it was included in the course! The broth wasn't too sweet but still whetted the appetite, and the chogochujang sauce was so good I don't know how many times I sipped the broth.

There are days when you come for crab in Jukdo Market but also crave sashimi and mulhoe at the same time — when it's all served together in one spread, there's no need to agonize over what to order.
Assorted sashimi plate and snow crab ramyeon
The assorted sashimi came sliced thick, too. Mostly white fish, and the flesh was springy — I finished one piece and immediately reached for the next. There was engawa too, bursting with richness. I personally love thick-cut sashimi, so this was exactly my style!
The biggest surprise was the crab ramyeon! Crab legs are boiled right into it, so the broth isn't just spicy — the crab's sweetness comes through too, making it hearty and refreshing at once. The combination worked really well.

Bakdal snow crab, fully shelled in the kitchen
The bakdal daegae finally arrived! I'd braced myself for a scissors battle after ordering crab, but the kitchen had already cleaned it all and plated it for us! Thanks to that, I could enjoy the crab feast comfortably without getting my hands smelly.
The shell was already cracked so you just had to pop it right off — easy to eat.
The legs had the shell peeled away and the meat laid neatly, and they even gave us clams and shrimp on the house! The clams were seriously sweet...!!!
The body was also split and arranged so it was easy to eat, served alongside.

Even the claws were all prepped, so you just had to pull the meat straight out — I was surprised at how packed with meat even these small, thin legs were, at this Jukdo Market favorite.

One bite and the chewy sweetness came right up — a flavor I kept reaching for again and again! Crab meat is usually salty enough on its own without seasoning, but this one wasn't too salty at all, just right, so I ate it plain without dipping in soy sauce. I understood why this place is a Pohang crab favorite.

How the course ends: spicy fish stew
The maeuntang (spicy fish stew) is the last course at Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center. By this point you're completely full, but the broth was so hearty I kept sipping away at it! The seasoning tasted a bit different from the usual maeuntang I've had, and it was spicy and clean, cutting through any fishy taste completely!

Is the Pohang snow crab course worth it?
I went planning to eat one crab and left having cleared an entire table 🦀 Having everything cleaned for us meant I could just focus on eating, which was great. If I had to pick just one crab restaurant among all the Jukdo Market favorites in Pohang, I'd recommend Yeonggwang Hoe Daegae Center 🩵
