A solo-dining spot in Gangnam: 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch 🍚
I was looking for somewhere to eat alone in Gangnam and ended up at 1992 Deopbap & Jjageuli Gangnam Main Branch. When you think of solo-dining menus you usually picture a simple rice bowl or soup, but here rice + fried egg + jjageuli (thick stew) + side dishes all come out neatly as one set, which makes for a really satisfying meal! This was already my third visit.

It's not awkward to visit alone, and the menu composition is so solid that it's great when you want a proper meal in Gangnam.

What's the atmosphere like?
The interior has a Korean feel to it. There were a lot of foreign visitors too.

There were really a lot of people dining alone! The inside is nicely done up in an Asian style, and the music was even a gayageum (traditional zither) version, which made it feel even more Korean.

What I ordered and how much it cost
Deumppuk jjageuli (₩13,500) Pork cutlet add-on (₩5,000) Drink (₩2,000)

🌶️ Deumppuk jjageuli
The main jjageuli, true to its name, isn't too watery — it's cooked down thick. As you can see in the photo, it's loaded with plenty of tofu and meat, and putting meat on a piece of tofu, mixing it all with rice and the jjageuli broth — yeah, it was definitely a rice-thief kind of dish.

The side dish of dried radish kimchi (mumallaengi) was delicious too.

You just sprinkle the seaweed flakes over your rice.

The rice comes with a fried egg right on top, and it looked delicious just from the visual. Compared to plain white rice, eating it together with the fried egg softened the spicy taste of the jjageuli nicely. The portion of rice was also generous enough for a full meal.

What was good about eating alone here
When you go to a restaurant alone, the seating or atmosphere can feel a bit awkward, but this kind of rice bowl/jjageuli menu is great for a clean solo meal. Since the whole set comes out together, there's no need to order separately, and with rice, the main dish and side dishes all included, it's a composition that fits especially well for a Gangnam office worker's lunch or a solo meal.

The red seasoning went really well with the rice.

Eating just the jjageuli alone can get a little monotonous, but pairing it with the side dishes in between was nice, and the combo of wrapping rice and jjageuli together in seaweed worked really well too.

Is adding pork cutlet as a side worth it?
I also added pork cutlet as a side dish. Crispy pork cutlet paired really well with a spicy dish like jjageuli. Taking a bite of pork cutlet, then eating jjageuli with rice, was great.

If you're dining alone and feel like just the main dish isn't quite enough, I'd recommend adding the pork cutlet side. It makes the meal much more filling, and it was a satisfying option for a Gangnam office worker's lunch too.

It was fried nice and crispy — genuinely delicious.

I'm normally not a big eater, but I kept going back for more. So good!!!!
