There are days when I suddenly just crave naengsam (frozen pork belly)! Thin slices on the grill, kimchi and bean sprouts sizzling alongside, wrapping it all up in a lettuce leaf and biting in… 🤤
So this time I went to "Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch" in Sangbong-dong. I only meant to have a light naengsam meal, but I ended up adding more meat, and even finished with doenjang jjigae and rice haha. Meat plans never go as planned…

If you're looking for samgyeopsal or a BBQ place around Sangbong Station, keep this location in mind too!

There are a lot of sleek, aesthetic-focused BBQ places these days, but this one had that unmistakable "we're eating meat today!" vibe haha. Overall it felt like a comfortable, no-fuss place to grill meat, good for visiting with friends too!

Naengsam, 150g per serving for ₩9,900
The price caught my eye right at the entrance!
🥩 Naengsam, 1 serving (150g): ₩9,900
Given how much pork belly prices have gone up lately, I was glad to see something under ₩10,000. Naengsam is thin, so it disappears faster than expected once you're eating it with all the sides! That makes it feel less pressuring to keep adding servings one at a time.

The restaurant's vibe and chairs with storage space
Once inside, it felt more relaxed than I expected. It's a good spot to chat with friends over meat, and it fits well for an evening of meat and drinks too. Personally, I felt like this wasn't just a place to eat a meal, but one that would come to mind for "let's grill meat and have a drink tonight" evenings 🍻

And here's a detail that quietly matters at BBQ places: the chairs had storage space inside. Instead of hanging your bag on the back of the chair or setting it on the floor and worrying about it, you can just tuck it away. This kind of small thing is quietly satisfying haha.

The utensils came individually wrapped in paper, all neat and tidy! You end up noticing details like this before eating meat, and it was nice to see them so well kept haha :)

The basic side dish spread
After ordering, the basic side dishes arrived. They came out one by one on a retro-style silver tray:
- Kimchi
- Scallion kimchi
- Pickled onions
- Seasoned bean sprouts
- Minari (water dropwort)
- Lettuce
- Perilla leaves
- Garlic
- Chili peppers
- Ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste)
- Salt-oil sauce
That's quite a lot of variety!! When I eat naengsam, I think the meat matters, but so does the range of accompaniments — kimchi, bean sprouts, wrap vegetables. Here there was plenty to combine, and I had fun mixing things up thinking "should I try this with that?" haha

Ordering 3 servings of naengsam
We started by ordering 3 servings of naengsam. The neatly sliced meat came out stacked in layers, and just looking at it doubled my hunger 🤤 King oyster mushrooms were on top too! The meat + mushroom combo — impossible to resist...!!

Straight onto the grill! Since the meat is sliced thin, it starts cooking the moment it hits the pan. Once the sizzling sound and smell start rising, you know how it is — you can't help glancing at the grill even mid-conversation 😂
You can really see the naengsam cooking here 🔥 Watching the thin slices turn golden brown made me want to eat it right away… Meat really does look delicious from the moment it starts cooking haha!

Self-service bar with a Hangang ramyeon machine
While the meat was grilling, I checked out the self-service bar. Wait, there's a Hangang ramyeon machine 🍜 After meat, you somehow crave carbs like ramyeon or fried rice haha — being able to make Hangang ramyeon here was a fun bonus!

The self-service bar had:
- Scallion kimchi
- Perilla leaves
- Lettuce
- Ssamjang
- Kimchi
- Bean sprouts
- Enoki mushrooms
- Garlic
- Chili peppers
- Minari
and more! If you run low on vegetables or side dishes while eating, it's easy to just help yourself haha. Minari and enoki mushrooms grilled together with naengsam are especially good, so I went back for more several times!! And the self-bar was kept so clean, you could tell the owner puts real care into it haha.

A menu board hung above the self-bar. It centered around naengsam but also included meal options, so you could easily continue from meat into a full meal!

Next to it were the sauces — salt, oil-salt sauce, and a house-made spicy sauce! You could choose to dip your meat in salt, oil sauce, or spicy sauce depending on your taste 🌶️ Personally, I like keeping naengsam simple with salt + oil sauce!

Grilling scallion kimchi, enoki mushrooms and minari together
By now the grill was completely full. I grilled scallion kimchi, enoki mushrooms, bean sprouts and minari together with the naengsam. This is what makes eating naengsam fun.
Instead of just grilling meat on its own, you scatter kimchi, bean sprouts, mushrooms and minari across the pan… and the whole grill gets tastier bit by bit haha. Especially with the kimchi and bean sprouts cooking in the fat rendered from the naengsam — great paired with the meat.
Finally, everything was cooked through 🤤 I got a close-up of the golden-brown naengsam — being sliced so thin, some parts turned crispy while others stayed savory and rich. Seeing this, it's genuinely hard to put your chopsticks down haha 😋

A hearty wrap: lettuce + perilla leaf topped with naengsam, garlic, enoki mushrooms and ssamjang, all in one bite 😋 The perilla aroma, the savory naengsam, the sharp bite of garlic, and the texture of the enoki mushrooms all came together really well. I love eating this way, piling things in, so I kept making wrap after wrap!!
The Super Naengsam five commandments on the wall
While eating, I noticed a fun sign on the wall — the Super Naengsam five commandments!
- ① Heat the pan thoroughly.
- ② Flip the naengsam only twice.
- ③ Grill the kimchi and bean sprouts too.
- ④ Pepper and seasoning to taste.
- ⑤ Fried rice is not optional.
Hahahaha, number 5 cracked me up.
Fried rice is not optional.
Isn't that basically a strong hint to order fried rice? 😂 Next time I go, I'll definitely have to try the fried rice.

Ended up adding 2 more servings, 5 total
And as you probably guessed… it didn't end at 3 servings. We added 2 more servings of naengsam 🙌🏻 The additional order came out just as neatly sliced, with king oyster mushrooms on top again.
So in the end, 5 servings total! I thought "3 servings should be enough," but somehow it kept going in haha. If you love naengsam, don't order too little from the start. You'll end up adding more. For real 🫣
Finishing with doenjang jjigae and rice
After eating a good amount of meat, we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) too. It came out bubbling, savory-looking from the first glance!
Stirring it a bit with my spoon, I found tofu, zucchini, enoki mushrooms and onion inside. After eating meat, a hot spoonful of doenjang jjigae feels like a whole new flavor. It went especially well after the richness of the meat.

And of course, rice couldn't be skipped. Doenjang jjigae + rice is just an unwritten rule. A bite of meat, a spoonful of rice, a spoonful of jjigae… by the time we finished, I was completely full 😂

Opening event: soju or beer 2+1
On the way out after paying, I noticed a banner hanging at the entrance. As part of the current opening event, there's a 🍺 soju or beer 2+1 deal going on!! Good news for anyone planning to drink while eating meat. Especially on those evenings when you and your friends decide "let's have meat and drinks tonight!" — this place fits that occasion well haha.
※ The event may change depending on the store's situation, so it's worth checking before you visit!
Overall review of Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch
To sum up this visit to Super Naengsam Sangbong Main Branch in one line: "a comfortable place to eat naengsam with all kinds of accompaniments!" At ₩9,900 for 150g per serving, the price is relatively easy on the wallet, and I liked being able to enjoy a wide range of ingredients from the basic side dishes to the self-bar — kimchi, bean sprouts, minari, enoki mushrooms, wrap vegetables and more.
Rather than just eating naengsam on its own, being able to mix and match:
- 🥩 Naengsam
- 🥬 Wrap vegetables
- 🍄 Mushrooms
- 🥬 Minari
- 🌶️ House-made sauce
- 🍲 Doenjang jjigae
- 🍚 Rice
kept things from feeling repetitive!
I also liked that the atmosphere wasn't too formal. It's a good place to chat comfortably with friends over meat, and it works well for an evening drink too. If you're looking for samgyeopsal near Sangbong Station, I think this is worth putting on your list!!
