Signature photo of charcoal-grilled beef intestines at Chodaechang Dangsan Station

I had plans near Dangsan Station today, an area packed with good restaurants, and while figuring out what to eat I found this savory, chewy beef intestines spot! I went to Chodaechang Dangsan Station. It's popular for office dinners and gatherings thanks to high-quality grilled intestines at a reasonable price, and I heard it even received a Blue Ribbon — so here's my honest review after eating there myself 😉

Where is Chodaechang Dangsan Station, and what is the space like?

Chodaechang Dangsan Station is right in view from Exit 11 of Dangsan Station — an incredibly, incredibly convenient location right by the station!

Interior of Chodaechang Dangsan Station with floor-to-ceiling windows and widely spaced tables

Being so close to Dangsan Station makes it a convenient meeting spot, and once you get to the 2nd floor, it's right there as soon as you step off the elevator!! The door is a full glass window that's often left wide open, and the ventilation inside is excellent, so you can eat comfortably without worrying about the smoke or smell that usually comes with charcoal-grilled gopchang (beef intestines) and daechang (large intestine).

There were also plenty of tables inside with generous spacing between them, making it perfectly suited for group gatherings or office dinners!

Chodaechang menu: what is the difference between Assorted Grill Set A and B?

Chodaechang's biggest strength is being able to enjoy high-quality beef intestines, well-seasoned in their special sauce, at great value. The assorted grill set is the signature menu letting you enjoy popular cuts like daechang, makchang, and teuk-yang all at once, split into Set A and Set B — the only difference being whether heart is included!!

You can also order daechang or teuk-yang as single dishes if you'd like — savory, fatty daechang, or teuk-yang with its appealingly crunchy texture. For side dishes, there was a good range perfect for finishing the meal: beef intestine fried rice, kimchi noodle soup, doenjang rice, spicy eolkeuni ramyeon, and more 👍🏻 (I didn't try it myself, but the table next to us said the fried rice was amazing..🤣)

Assorted Grill Set A review: heart, daechang, teuk-yang and makchang, grilled in order

Table setting with seasoned lettuce salad and pickled peppers as banchan
Bread salad banchan mixed with mayonnaise

First came the banchan (side dishes): seasoned lettuce salad, pickled peppers, and bread salad! The lettuce salad was refreshing and went down easily, the pickled peppers were slightly sweet, and both paired well with the beef intestines! The bread salad had something like breadcrumbs mixed with corn, carrots, and mayonnaise — it tasted great and had an unexpectedly different flavor.

Charcoal grill and ventilation fan set up on the table

They brought the charcoal right away, and since there's a ventilation fan directly above the table, there wasn't much smoke — really nice 👍🏻

Now for the main event — the assorted grill set arrives! The staff grilled everything for us one by one in order, so our hands didn't even get smelly and we could eat super comfortably~~ They put the heart on first!

Heart placed on the charcoal grill

Beef heart (yeomtong)

I could really tell the heart was fresh — when heart is overcooked or even slightly less fresh, it gets tough and has a fishy taste right away, but this heart was chewy with a proper meaty texture and no trace of that characteristic fishy taste at all, so I could immediately tell they were using really fresh heart!

Shishito-style peppers grilled alongside the heart

It also paired well with the shishito-style peppers 👍🏻

Daechang (large intestine)

Next up, the daechang (large intestine) with its unbeatable savory flavor! It comes out as a whole piece, gets grilled on the charcoal until it's cooked through, and then is cut into bite-sized pieces for you.

The special sauce was well soaked in and the quality was so good that even though daechang is a fatty cut, it wasn't heavy at all — I just kept eating it 💕 It had that proper charcoal-grilled smoky flavor, and the savory fat bursting in my mouth was so delicious..

Daechang and teuk-yang grilling together on the charcoal grill
Teuk-yang grilling on the charcoal grill

Teuk-yang (prized tripe cut)

Grilled alongside the daechang, teuk-yang is the thickest cut of meat from the front part of the cow's first stomach (yang), with a distinctive fringed shape! It had this incredibly appealing texture — chewy yet crunchy and crisp at the same time, with a distinctive crackling bite ✨ Since it has less fat, it's not heavy like daechang — it's clean-tasting but gets more savory the more you chew! I think this is a menu you absolutely have to try 😆

Teuk-yang cut into bite-sized pieces
Teuk-yang pieces cut to resemble pork ribs

Looking at how it's cut, it kind of resembles pork ribs, right? I actually thought it was even more delicious than pork ribs..🤤

Whole makchang placed on the charcoal grill

Makchang (last-stomach cut)

Last up was the makchang! Put on whole, it looked a bit intimidating (?), but true to form it was savory and chewy the more you chewed, with a deep umami flavor. There was just enough fat for a good balance of texture and savoriness. It wasn't tough at all, and thanks to well-marinated seasoning it stayed tender while still keeping that satisfying chewiness!

Finished plate of Assorted Grill Set A

Finishing with spicy eolkeuni ramyeon

After eating through the assorted grill set from heart to makchang as each piece was grilled, I still wanted more, so I ordered the spicy eolkeuni ramyeon! True to its name, it was spicy but not overwhelmingly so — perfect as a light soup to finish the meal — and the noodles were cooked absolutely perfectly, still with that satisfying firm bite 👍🏻 A fitting, simple side dish to close out the meal.

Is Chodaechang Dangsan Station good for group dinners and gatherings?

My intent to come back is 200%! Next time I definitely want to try the beef intestine fried rice and the hot pot too 🤤 If you want to experience that clean, well-seasoned special sauce with none of the off-putting smell, plus the ultimate crispy-outside-tender-inside charcoal-grilled flavor, this is a Dangsan Station restaurant and bar you have to visit — Chodaechang Dangsan Station, a beef intestines spot near Dangsan Station!

From chewy, savory daechang to crunchy teuk-yang and a spicy fried rice finish, it's a perfect course to enjoy — great not just for office dinners but also as a spot to meet up with a partner or friends, so I highly recommend stopping by for a delicious time.
