Jeju rice cake shop for pick-your-own ₩1,000 omegi-tteok: Suragan

In short

Suragan Tteokbang is a Jeju rice cake shop on Noyeon-ro near Jeju Airport where you can pick omegi-tteok (Jeju millet rice cake) one piece at a time for ₩1,000 each. The reviewer mixed six flavors — red bean, nuts, soybean powder, black sesame, tangerine, and barley — into one box and got 2 extra pieces from the receipt review event. Even after freezing and thawing naturally, the texture stayed soft and chewy, making it a solid pick for gifts or snacks.

One box, six flavors of omegi-tteok

It's close to Jeju Airport so it's easy to reach, and it has really great reviews even among Jeju rice cake shops, so I went in with high expectations. Walking in, there were so many kinds of rice cakes and omegi-tteok that it was super easy to pick according to taste. I went with one box of everything — red bean, nut, soybean powder, black sesame, tangerine, and barley omegi-tteok, all packed together.

Besides omegi-tteok, the other rice cakes looked so tasty too. If I'd had one more day I would've bought some, but I had to head to the airport ㅠㅠ next time.

Yakgwa (honey cookie) and garaetteok (rice cake sticks) probably taste great too haha.

Omegi-tteok pricing and gift box options

Omegi-tteok is priced at ₩1,000 per piece, so it's not a burden, and the gift box options — 5, 10, 20, 30, up to 50 pieces — felt well thought out. I brought home one box mixed with a bit of everything. Thanks to the classy packaging, it's great for putting together a Jeju omegi-tteok gift set, and the whole look feels like real care was put into it.

2 extra pieces from the receipt review event

The staff kindly explained that you should eat the rice cakes right after buying, or freeze any leftovers. They're also running a receipt review event, and they gave me 2 extra pieces of omegi-tteok for it. Such a great deal!!!

Eating omegi-tteok as a snack

Individually wrapped, perfect for one-at-a-time snacking

Since each piece is individually wrapped, it's perfect for pulling out one at a time as a snack. It's convenient to grab one in the morning before work as a light breakfast substitute too, and it's nutritious enough to keep at home as a go-to snack. If you're looking for a must-visit Jeju omegi-tteok spot during your Jeju trip, I really recommend stopping by Suragan Tteokbang. The prices are reasonable and the packaging is generous, so it's also great as a gift for parents or friends — an excellent choice for a Jeju omegi-tteok present.

Omegi-tteok after freezing and thawing

Texture after freezing and natural thawing

I froze the rest as instructed as soon as I got home, then let them thaw naturally at room temperature before eating. The texture stayed soft and chewy just like freshly made, so it's easy to tuck one into your bag for the commute or eat as a snack when you're hungry at home.

Trying the refreshing tangerine omegi-tteok, the fragrant citrus scent blended nicely with the chewiness of the rice cake — a really lovely, unusual treat.

Cross-section of the refreshing tangerine omegi-tteok

Can rice cake really be this refreshing? Jeju really does mean tangerines haha.

Signature red bean omegi-tteok

The signature red bean omegi-tteok

I tried the signature red bean omegi-tteok, and the sweet, nutty whole red beans on the outside paired well with the moderately sweet filling inside — chewy and satisfying without getting sickly sweet. A faint mugwort aroma lingered in the mouth, and I thought parents or older relatives would really love this as a gift. The sweetness wasn't overdone and the clean flavor came through, so I could immediately see why Jeju omegi-tteok gets recommended so much. Packed neatly and classily in the box, it's a perfect option for anyone considering a Jeju thank-you rice cake or a Jeju gift for friends and family.

One box of omegi-tteok for gifting

If you're looking for a quality Jeju omegi-tteok shop for souvenirs or gifts during your Jeju trip, I hope you'll stop by Suragan Tteokbang. It's such good value and the taste is clean, so next time I'm back in Jeju I'm thinking of packing a big box again haha.
