Extra-large jjajangmyeon at a Marine City Chinese restaurant: Bueokgan

In short

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is an ocean-view Chinese restaurant on the second floor above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap at the end of Marine City in Haeundae, Busan. The order was BUUK jjajangmyeon (extra-large portion), beef woosamgyeop jjamppong (spicy seafood-style noodle soup) and black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork): the jjajangmyeon noodles had gone a little soft, while the bone-broth jjamppong and glutinous-rice tangsuyuk were both satisfying. At Bueokgan Chinese, sticking to the jjamppong and tangsuyuk makes for a happy meal.

A warm condensed milk latte for today too~

There's a Marine City spot near Haeundae with a clean, pleasant atmosphere where you can eat Chinese food, so I went and checked it out.

The restaurant's name is "Bueokgan Chinese." The beef jjamppong was spicy and hearty, and the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) was sweet and tangy. Overall it was good, but the jjajangmyeon was a bit disappointing, so let me introduce this Marine City restaurant with that caveat :)

Where is Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch, and what are the hours?

Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch is located at 51 Marine City 3-ro, Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea. It's on the 2nd floor above Subyeon Choego Pork Gukbap, right at the seaside end of Marine City.

It's open daily from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 15:30 to 17:00, and last order is at 20:30.

What the entrance to Bueokgan Chinese looks like

You could spot the restaurant's location right from the first floor, and it was easy to find.

Once inside the building, there's a dedicated elevator that takes you up to the restaurant — and even here, the interior styling felt well done.

Step off the elevator and the restaurant is right there — time to head in~

Inside Bueokgan Chinese: ocean-view window seats and atmosphere

Hall seating inside Bueokgan Chinese Marine City Branch

Inside there was a spacious hall area, and further back a large private room space as well.

There were seats by the window too, and the overall atmosphere was clean and pleasant, making for a nice meal.

At the window-side tables, you could eat Chinese food while looking out at the blue sea, which was lovely~

List of various types of gaoliang liquor

There was also a wide selection of Chinese liquor (gaoliang), so those who want a drink alongside their Chinese food would find plenty of variety. We ordered BUUK jjajangmyeon (large) + beef woosamgyeop jjamppong + black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk.

Table set with the ordered Chinese dishes

After ordering, the food came out after a wait — it took a bit of time since there were a lot of customers.

Large BUUK jjajangmyeon topped with half an egg

BUUK jjajangmyeon, extra-large: a welcome half egg, but soft noodles

First up, the jjajangmyeon! I ordered Bueokgan Chinese's BUUK jjajangmyeon in the large size, and it came with half an egg on top and plenty of sauce, looking really appetizing.

Half a soft-boiled egg on top of the jjajangmyeon

These days more and more places are skimping on the egg, so it was nice to see one included.

Jjajangmyeon mixed with sprinkled gochugaru

After mixing it well and sprinkling on a bit of gochugaru (red pepper flakes), it was time to dig in.

Chopsticks lifting a bite of jjajangmyeon noodles

One bite in, the flavor was milder than the jjajangmyeon I was used to, and the noodles were a bit soggy.

Jjajang sauce packed with meat

The sauce was packed with meat, which paired well with the noodles, and having a generous amount of sauce was nice too — though it would have been even better if the sauce were a bit thicker and the noodles less soggy.

Beef woosamgyeop jjamppong: bone-broth base and a generous portion

Next, the beef woosamgyeop jjamppong! Just looking at it, the broth alone seemed like a lot — and it wasn't just the broth, the overall portion was generous too.

Tasting the broth first, it had that spicy jjamppong flavor, made even more appealing by the bone-broth base.

There was woosamgyeop (thinly sliced beef brisket) in the jjamppong too, which I enjoyed eating,

and the wood ear mushrooms and onions scattered throughout were also great alongside the jjamppong.

A chopstick-full of thick jjamppong noodles

Taking a big bite of the noodles, they were thick and chewy, which was nice, and combined with the appealing broth, it was a delicious bowl.

Black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk drizzled with sauce

Black vinegar sirloin tangsuyuk: ask for extra sauce and get plenty

Last, the black vinegar deungsim tangsuyuk! Bueokgan Chinese's tangsuyuk was made with glutinous rice-based frying, and it came out with sauce drizzled on top.

One bite in, it was crispy yet chewy, and the meat was tender.

Fried tangsuyuk pieces dipped in extra sauce

Personally, I felt the sauce was a bit sparse, so I asked for extra tangsuyuk sauce, and dipping generously into that, I enjoyed every last bite.

Is Bueokgan Chinese in Marine City worth it? Final verdict

I left this Marine City restaurant happy after enjoying jjajangmyeon, jjamppong, and tangsuyuk. The jjajangmyeon was a bit disappointing, but the jjamppong and tangsuyuk were appealing enough that I left feeling good until the very end.

All the dishes were appealing, and the restaurant's atmosphere was great too — another happy meal today :)
