Today I'm writing up a dessert shop I stumbled on during a trip to Gyeongju that turned out way better than expected. I'd been seeing these giant fresh-fruit mochi all over Instagram lately, so I went to try them myself at Tareudang on Hwangnidan-gil.

While planning my Gyeongju itinerary I found this fresh-fruit dessert shop that's been blowing up on Instagram lately — it kept showing up on my feed so I was curious, and since it happened to be on my route, I stopped by Tareudang haha.

Tareudang's eye-catching exterior on the Hwangnidan-gil alley
A cute, colorful storefront
Walking down the alley, a cute building catches your eye from far away — the storefront is decorated in bright, colorful, playful colors, and passersby kept glancing back as they walked by lol. The entrance itself was perfect for photos.

I thought Tareudang only sold giant mochi, but once I got there I found they also had rich-looking cheesecake and golden-baked egg tarts! Since it's takeout only, this seems like the perfect spot to grab a dessert and go spread a mat on the lawn near Cheomseongdae Observatory nearby for a picnic.

I'd been seeing these fist-sized fresh-fruit and giant mochi visuals all over social media lately and was really curious how they'd taste. I was so happy I could try them right in the middle of Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju >//<

Fresh-fruit mochi flavors and the 4+ discount

Also, buying 4 or more gets you ₩500 off per piece, so if you're visiting with a group or packing some as a gift, it's worth grabbing that discount 💡
After much deliberation, three refreshing fruit mochi flavors
After agonizing over what to pick, we went with mango yogurt, pineapple, and gold kiwi. Given the slightly muggy weather, we naturally gravitated toward the colorful, bright-and-tangy fruit lineup haha.

The mochi we ordered came neatly packed away. No worries about the contents getting squished while carrying them outdoors, which made them easy to bring along as a picnic snack.

The size and fillings of the giant mochi
A hefty look with generous fillings
Opening the package to check them out in person, I was surprised at how big they actually were lol. Inside the thin, chewy rice-cake wrapper was a generous fill of sweet red bean paste, smooth yogurt, and fresh fruit — it looked delicious just from the outside.

Yogurt and red bean together — how does that taste?
An unusual combo of yogurt and red bean, honestly reviewed
Honestly, I wondered whether fruit yogurt and traditional red bean paste would even go together..! But once I took a bite, the ingredients matched up surprisingly well. The red bean wasn't overly sweet, so it balanced out the overall sweetness nicely, and the burst of fresh fruit juice kept it tasting light and never cloying haha.

I ate one of the three right away outdoors near Cheomseongdae, going for that picnic vibe haha, and brought the other two home. As soon as I got home I popped them in the fridge and ate them the next day!

A storage tip for the best flavor
Eating them myself, the chewiness of the rice cake and the tang of the fruit were definitely much more pronounced when chilled. If you're not eating them right away after buying, I'd definitely recommend refrigerating them first!! And if you want an even chewier texture, popping them in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before eating is a great tip 👍

The mango and yogurt combo especially was a can't-miss classic of tangy sweetness. Personally, I highly recommend the mango 💛 It's easy to eat without getting your hands messy, so it's a great stop if you're visiting Hwangnidan-gil in Gyeongju. I'd definitely recommend the giant fresh-fruit mochi as a must-try dessert.
