Mungtigi raw beef big plate and yukhoe bibimbap in Buk-gu, Daegu
In short
Bonghwa Saenggogi Bonjeom is a raw beef specialty restaurant in Guam-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu, serving same-day slaughtered Hanwoo cow mungtigi (Korean-style raw beef). Two diners shared a big plate of raw beef along with yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang stew on a weekday evening, and the meat had so much chewy stickiness it stayed stuck to the plate even when flipped upside down. Service was a bit slow, but the freshness of the mungtigi and the quality of the yukhoe bibimbap were unmistakable.

I went to Bonghwa Saenggogi, a famous mungtigi (Korean-style raw beef) spot in Daegu. I'd been craving that fresh, chewy mungtigi, and this place is apparently one of the top names in Daegu.

You can park in front of the restaurant or along the nearby street. From the entrance you could already feel that fresh-meat-restaurant vibe — the space is well laid out for group gatherings or a casual drink. Bonghwa Saenggogi has a banner inside saying they only use cow meat, and the sign basically tells you: you can trust it and eat it. I think that's part of why customers keep coming back.
The menu board and what we ordered
Here's the menu attached to each table.

I thought about ordering the course but ended up just getting one big plate of raw beef. I also ordered a yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap) alongside it.
The dining room on a weekday evening

Even on a weekday evening, the place had a nicely lively atmosphere with customers who'd come for a taste of Daegu-style mungtigi. The tables were spaced far apart, which made for comfortable conversation over the meal, and there was a section further back well suited to group gatherings or company dinners.

On the wall was a big sign reading "We only use fresh, same-day slaughtered Hanwoo cow," and it clearly reflected the owner's pride in the meat, which only raised my expectations.

There were three staff members — one was only slicing meat, one stayed in the kitchen, and one went back and forth between the kitchen and the floor, but honestly, service was a bit slow. I found myself thinking they could really use one more staff member.
Side dishes, and beef tripe and liver

Once we ordered, a neat and generous spread of side dishes came out first. Being a mungtigi specialty restaurant, even the basic table setting was substantial.

Starting with a warming miyeok-guk (seaweed soup), plus beef tripe, liver and various other side dishes, we got to cleanse our palates pleasantly before the main dish even arrived.

The tripe and liver in particular — only possible thanks to same-day slaughter — had absolutely no gamey taste and were a real treat.
The big raw beef plate: mungtigi that stays stuck even upside down
Finally, the main event — the big raw beef plate — arrived!

As soon as the plate was set down, everyone let out a gasp at its gorgeous red glow. We tried the classic Daegu mungtigi test — flipping the plate upside down — and the meat stayed stuck together, chewy and firm, without a single piece falling off. That's proof of how well the moisture and fat had drained and just how fresh it was.

How to eat mungtigi with the dipping sauce
The dipping sauce is what really makes or breaks mungtigi! Made with plenty of minced garlic, coarse chili flakes and sesame oil, dipping the meat in it gave a spicy, nutty flavor that paired perfectly with the meat's clean taste — never got tiring.

If you let the meat sit in the sauce for a few minutes before eating, the savory flavor gets even more intense.

I also tried a piece plain, with no sauce at all, and the more I chewed, the more that signature chewy, mouth-clinging texture came through — really excellent.
Yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang stew
After enjoying the mungtigi (raw beef), our ordered meal course arrived: yukhoe bibimbap and doenjang stew. A perfect combination for when you want something more filling than just meat.

There was a generous helping of fresh, well-seasoned yukhoe (raw beef) on top, along with plenty of fresh vegetables and bean sprouts. Mixing it all together and taking a big bite gave you the nutty aroma of sesame oil along with the chewy texture of the yukhoe — truly a treat. Being a mungtigi specialty restaurant, the quality of the yukhoe in the bibimbap itself was outstanding, and I was impressed all the way to the last spoonful.
Tteokbokki and cabbage pancake, which arrived late
Orders were running a bit behind that day, so the tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) and cabbage pancake came out late.

They arrived a bit late, but we still enjoyed them. A single big plate of mungtigi might feel a bit light for two people, so I'd recommend pairing it with the yukhoe bibimbap or doenjang stew.
Final thoughts
From the fresh, chewy mungtigi to the hearty yukhoe bibimbap and the savory doenjang stew, every dish here was satisfying. Eating here made it clear exactly why this place is considered one of Daegu's top names for mungtigi.
