Why we picked up lunch boxes for the Jeju beach
One of the quietly exciting parts of a Jeju trip is, of course, having a delicious meal in Jeju. This time, we did something a little different and picked up lunch boxes to enjoy at the beach. This sushi lunch box specialist is close to Jeju Airport, so it is great for picking up a meal as soon as you arrive and starting your trip—or, like us, grabbing one midway through the trip to eat by the sea. We picked ours up in advance to eat after swimming at Hamdeok Beach. You get hungry surprisingly quickly after being in the water, but finding a restaurant and travelling there from the beach can be a hassle, right? So we decided to take along lunch boxes that would be easy to eat.

What came in the sushi lunch box and Jejju box
There were several lunch box options with different combinations, so we could choose what suited us. We ordered two: the sushi lunch box and the Jejju box. Rather than getting the same menu, ordering two different combinations and sharing them meant we could try a little of everything, which was nice.

A sushi lunch box with salmon two ways
First, the sushi lunch box included four pieces of raw salmon sushi, four pieces of grilled salmon sushi, two pieces of raw shrimp sushi, and two pieces of egg sushi. A combination salmon-sushi lovers would especially enjoy! With both raw and grilled salmon included, we could compare two flavours of the same fish. It also came with rakkyo (pickled scallions), ginger, wasabi soy sauce, radish sprouts, onion mayo, and clear soup, so there was no need to prepare anything extra. For a takeaway lunch box, it was packed with all the essentials and easy to take straight out and eat.

The Jejju box, from spicy octopus rice to fried food
The other order, the Jejju box, had a really varied selection. Its main was jjukkumi deopbap (spicy webfoot octopus over rice), alongside fish cutlet, fried shrimp, three pieces of raw salmon sushi, and two pieces of raw shrimp sushi. With rice, fried food, and sushi all in one box, it seemed like a great fit for anyone who wants to eat a bit of everything. The Jejju box also included rakkyo, ginger, kimchi, wasabi soy sauce, onion mayo, and clear soup. In particular, having the spicy octopus rice with kimchi made it a filling meal with a different feel from the sushi lunch box. Neither lunch box was simply a few pieces of sushi; both were generously packed with a range of food and accompaniments. On a trip, ordering or preparing lots of things for a meal can be a hassle, but picking up one lunch box takes care of everything at once, which was so convenient.

Lunch boxes after swimming at Hamdeok Beach
After having a great time swimming at Hamdeok Beach, we took out the lunch boxes and ate right away. Eating while looking out at the Jeju sea by the shore felt completely different from an ordinary restaurant meal. We were hungry, so the sushi disappeared one piece at a time in no time. It was especially nice after swimming: easy to eat, yet filling. We did not need to travel to a restaurant, and being able to eat comfortably near the sea really added to the travel atmosphere.
The funniest part was that while we were eating the lunch boxes at the beach, passersby asked, “Where did you pick those up?” I guess having sushi lunch boxes spread out by the sea really caught their attention. It was one of those small travel pleasures that you can only experience in Jeju.
Because it is close to Jeju Airport, it works well for picking up food right after arriving and beginning your trip, or for grabbing a meal before returning to the airport on the final day. If you are planning to swim at Hamdeok Beach or another Jeju beach like we did, I really recommend taking along lunch boxes. You can enjoy delicious sushi and a range of menu items with no fuss, and eating while looking at the beautiful Jeju sea makes both the food and the holiday mood twice as enjoyable.
If you want a slightly different meal on a Jeju trip, or are looking for group lunch boxes in Jeju or a local favourite, it could be worth stopping by. Being close to the airport also makes it easy to fit into an itinerary! On this trip, we fully enjoyed the romance of eating lunch boxes by the beach, and it was so satisfying. Having a sushi lunch box while looking at the Jeju sea is much better than you might expect, so definitely try it at least once if you visit Jeju!
