Dongdaemun galbitang restaurant with clear broth: Hoegi Wang Galbitang

In short

Hoegi Wang Galbitang is a galbitang restaurant near Hoegi Station in Dongdaemun, Seoul. We tried the two-rib Revitalizing Galbitang and three-rib Special Energy Galbitang, with clear, light broth and moist, tender ribs. Hoegi Wang Galbitang is a spot I’d revisit for both a hangover cure and a satisfying meal.

A galbitang specialist found near Hoegi Station

Featured photo introducing a visit to Hoegi Wang Galbitang

We visited the galbitang spot my husband had been singing about because he wanted it so badly >_< There wasn’t a galbitang specialist close to home, so we were looking around and happened to stop by—and it was so delicious that I had to share it~ 🤙🏻

Exterior of Hoegi Wang Galbitang

Hoegi Wang Galbitang, with its impressively spacious scale! 🫪 There was a sign saying it was for when you’re tired of hangover soup and sundae-guk (Korean sausage soup), and that was exactly me hahaha. I eat hangover soup and sundae-guk often, but there aren’t any places specializing in galbitang, so I don’t end up having it much! Then I happened upon Hoegi Wang Galbitang, a galbitang specialist!

There is no separate parking support, but it is right near Oedaeap Station and Hoegi Station, so it’s very easy to get here by public transportation! 🙂

The tables were spaced far apart, so we could eat comfortably. Even though we went a little after lunchtime, customers kept coming in nonstop!!! I guess it’s already known as a good spot hahaha. At the self-service bar, gangjeong (sweet crispy snacks), rice, and misutgaru (roasted grain drink mix) are all unlimited! I loved that so, so much 👍🏻

Galbitang choices based on the number of ribs

Since it’s a galbitang specialist, the main offerings are naturally different kinds of galbitang! There were two broth options, spicy and regular; the regular has two rib bones and the special has three >_< For takeout, rice needs to be ordered separately, but they give you twice as much broth!!! Next time, I’m planning to take some home, portion it out, freeze it, and eat it properly hahaha.

From seokbakji and hovenia fruit tea to galbitang

These are the basic side dishes! They told us the seokbakji (cubed radish kimchi) is made in-house, and it was fermented just right, making it a wonderful match for galbitang 🥹 And the water was hovenia fruit tea for hangovers hahaha.

The self-service corner had napa cabbage kimchi, seokbakji, and even gangjeong, plus nice, refreshing misutgaru!!!

Revitalizing Galbitang and Special Galbitang meal setting

I ordered the Revitalizing Galbitang with two ribs, while my husband ordered the Special Energy Galbitang with three ribs! The king galbitang arrived with that bubbling-hot look!

Hoegi Wang Galbitang’s galbitang also comes with glass noodles! Hoegi Wang Galbitang says its goal is to restore the energy of everyone who eats there 🫢 They soak 120 kilograms of ribs to draw out the blood for 12 hours every day, wash them, and simmer them with care, which may be why this galbitang had such a clear, clean flavor without a single impurity!

They say every galbitang at Hoegi Wang Galbitang is made through repeated skimming, heat control, and a battle with the stove’s heat… that really can’t be anything but devotion, can it? 🥹🥹 Perhaps because of that, the broth was lighter than a greasy beef-soup flavor, and it left a refreshing finish even after eating!!! 🥹

A hearty meal with moist, tender ribs

The ribs were moist and tender, making this perfect not only for a hangover but also for a filling meal! For anyone looking for a good place to eat around Hwigyeong-dong or Hoegi Station, based on the taste alone, my intention to revisit is 99.9% 🤙🏻🤙🏻
