Bossam set for two with radish salad and Andong gukbap, Anyang

When you're looking for Korean food in Anyang's Beomgye area, sometimes you want a place where you can have gukbap (soup with rice) and boiled pork together, haha. This time I went to Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, located inside the Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon branch. We ordered the boiled pork set for two, and it turned out to include not just boiled pork but dumplings and Andong gukbap too. Let me walk you through it in detail!

It's on basement level 1 of Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, so it's a great spot to grab a meal while shopping. Being inside a department store also meant a clean, pleasant place to eat.

We visited outside typical mealtimes, but there were still quite a few people looking for Korean food.

Interior and dining with kids

The interior was really spacious. Lots of tables, and everything looked really clean.

They also had baby chairs ready, so it looked like a comfortable place to bring kids while at the department store.

Looking over the menu, there was a good range of everyday Korean dishes, from gukbap to boiled pork, haha.

What we ordered was the boiled pork set for two. This set came with boiled pork plus two dumplings and Andong gukbap. With the soup and dumplings included too, the whole spread felt more substantial than I expected.

Usually with a set menu the boiled pork portion can be on the small side, but at Hantiok it came out generous enough for two people, haha.

We started with the boiled pork first. The meat was tender, not tough at all, which was great. It was tasty on its own, but personally what I liked most was the radish salad that came alongside it!

The radish salad was crunchy and well-seasoned, and the combination with the boiled pork worked really well.

Putting the boiled pork on lettuce and piling on plenty of radish salad to make a wrap, the mild flavor of the meat paired nicely with the seasoning of the radish salad. Personally, I think boiled pork tastes best eaten this way, with radish salad.

So how does the Andong gukbap taste?

And honestly, the dish that impressed me most that day was the Andong gukbap! It's a soup made with brisket and ugeoji (dried napa cabbage leaves), and it also came loaded with bean sprouts. One sip of the broth and it was way more refreshing than I expected.

Maybe because of all the bean sprouts, the broth itself was clean and refreshing, while the brisket and ugeoji gave it that deep, rich gukbap flavor too.

Eating the boiled pork and then taking a spoonful of the soup in between cleansed my palate nicely, so it paired really well with the boiled pork, haha.

I especially liked how much bean sprouts went into the soup — compared to a gukbap with just meat, having bean sprouts and ugeoji together seemed to bring out the refreshing flavor of the broth even more.

The dumplings on the side

We also tried the dumplings that came with the boiled pork set.

They weren't the extra-large style — more like the small dumplings you get on the side at a naengmyeon (cold noodle) or Korean BBQ place.

I like this style of dumpling, so eating one every so often while going through the boiled pork was nice, haha. The filling was light and not too heavy either, which made it a good match with the boiled pork.

Overall, Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch was a good spot to visit if you want to enjoy boiled pork and gukbap together. The boiled pork set we ordered came with boiled pork, dumplings, and Andong gukbap all together, so we got to taste a little of everything, and I especially liked the combo of tender boiled pork with well-seasoned radish salad! The Andong gukbap was also loaded with bean sprouts for a refreshing broth, plus brisket and ugeoji, so anyone who likes gukbap would probably enjoy it a lot.
