Andong noodle set with boiled pork and dumplings at Hantiok, Anyang

I went shopping at Lotte Department Store and got hungry, so I headed down to the basement food court — there's this one gukbap (rice soup) place that's always packed, you know? I was craving hot soup right then, so I stopped by. This is Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, located in the basement of the Beomgye Lotte Department Store.

This Beomgye favorite, Hantiok Lotte Department Store Pyeongchon Branch, sits in the basement 1 food court of Lotte Department Store, right next to the pop-up zone and Pasteur Milk Bar, just so you know! If you come in through the department store entrance near the Beomgye blood donation center, it's right there — not hard to find at all.

This place is always packed with people of all ages, lunch or dinner, no matter what... We got there right before closing so we were basically the only ones left, which is how I managed to snap a photo — but this is normally a buzzing, word-of-mouth favorite.

What's on the menu, and why we chose the set

The signature dishes are Andong guksu (noodle soup) and Andong gukbap (rice soup). Beyond that there's a whole range — ugeoji gukbap, seolleongtang, bossam (boiled pork wraps), suyuk (boiled pork slices), chogye guksu, ssambap — so you can pick to your taste. We wanted the stir-fried pork ssambap AND the gukbap AND the guksu AND the bossam AND the dumplings, ugh, it was such a dilemma — but then we noticed ordering a set meal comes with a mini stir-fried pork or mini bossam plus one dumpling. So we ordered the sets without a second thought.

What's in the set, and the side dishes

The Andong guksu set comes with bossam and one dumpling; the Andong gukbap set comes with stir-fried pork and one dumpling. Basic banchan (side dishes) and lettuce wraps came alongside. The pickled gungchae (aster stem) was so crunchy and tasty! Maybe because it's a department store food court, but the side dishes came out neat and tidy.

Then came the Andong guksu, Andong gukbap, bossam, and stir-fried pork. Ordering two sets filled the whole table! Just looking at it made us feel full — pure heaven for us Korean-food lovers...

How huge is the Andong guksu portion?

The Andong guksu was impressive starting from the size of the bowl. The portion was massive. It was packed with zucchini, green onion, meat toppings, and soft noodles. The broth was clean and full of savory depth — really delicious. The noodles especially had that thin kalguksu (knife-cut noodle) texture, great to chew, very satisfying. My friend kept saying the portion just wasn't going down no matter how much we ate, haha. There's so much of it, it'll fill you right up.

How does the Andong gukbap taste?

The Andong gukbap has a red broth packed with bean sprouts, ugeoji (napa cabbage leaves), beef, and radish. We didn't order the premium version, but there was still a ton of meat in there — enough that meat was still left even after we finished the whole bowl. The Andong gukbap tasted exactly like the jangteo gukbap (market-style soup) I love. It was the flavor I always go for, and I realized — oh, this is what Andong gukbap is.

The bossam and stir-fried pork in the sets

This is the bossam included with the Andong guksu set. It was thick and tender, pairing really well with the noodles. I'm sensitive to smell, and there wasn't a hint of any meaty odor — totally clean.

Topped with the bossam kimchi, it was an excellent combo.

This is the stir-fried pork included with the Andong gukbap set. The meat was thin but generous, well-coated in a sweet sauce — delicious eaten plain or wrapped in a lettuce leaf. Loaded with green onion and onion, eating it together made the flavor even richer.

Honest verdict after finishing even the giant dumpling

This is a giant dumpling packed full of filling. Honestly, since the set itself is already quite generous, just the one dumpling was the perfect amount. I felt like my stomach might burst, but I couldn't give up on the dumpling, so I finished everything before leaving! I waddled out, completely stuffed.

This was the tastiest, cleanest gukbap I've had in a while. Both the stir-fried pork and the bossam were high quality, and everything felt clean overall — a place I'd want to visit again.
