Korean restaurant in Songpa for raw shrimp sashimi: Wareureu Mansion

In short

Wareureu Mansion Bangi Branch is a Korean-style pub in Bangi-dong, Songpa, Seoul, where I stopped for a second round after eating on Songridan-gil. I had raw shrimp sashimi and spicy tomato haejang ppeshe; the shrimp’s springy texture and accompaniments stood out, while the hearty broth dish made for a satisfying pairing. The wide table spacing was comfortable for conversation, and baseball was playing on a large screen during my visit.

After finishing our first round on Songridan-gil, I was looking for a bar in Bangi-dong for a second round and visited Wareureu Mansion Bangi Branch (와르르맨숀 방이점). We ordered raw shrimp sashimi and spicy tomato haejang ppeshe, along with beer and soju.

Is the atmosphere good for conversation or groups after dinner?

When I went inside, baseball was playing on the large screen. It was nice to be able to have drinks while watching the game.

The interior was more spacious than I expected, with room between the tables. It was comfortable for conversation and seemed suitable for either two people or a group.

The window-side seats also had a pleasant atmosphere. Crayon Shin-chan dolls placed around the room caught my eye.

What dishes did I order, and what was the draft beer offer like?

We ordered through the kiosk at each table. As a Korean-style pub, it had a varied menu including hot pots, fried dishes, sashimi, pizza, and dried snacks. I chose the Shinan same-day catch raw shrimp sashimi and spicy tomato haejang ppeshe.

Macaroni salad came as a basic side dish. It was sweet and nutty, making it a good snack while waiting for the main dishes.

How was the spicy tomato haejang ppeshe as a meal and drinking dish?

The spicy tomato haejang ppeshe, our first dish, was ₩19,900. It came with plenty of pasta noodles and clams.

The broth tasted like a blend of tomato and a jjamppong-style base. Its spicy warmth kept me going back for more, and the noodles made it filling enough to feel like a meal. It was the kind of dish that made me think of soju as I ate.

What came with the raw shrimp sashimi, and how did I eat it?

The Shinan same-day catch raw shrimp sashimi, which I was looking forward to most, was ₩35,900. The plate was full of raw shrimp, and the shrimp heads were fried until crisp.

The sauces were soy sauce, chojang (sweet-and-tangy chili sauce), and Buldak mayo sauce. Seaweed, aged kimchi, and wasabi were also included for wrapping.

I first dipped the shrimp in soy sauce. The initial texture was springy and chewy, with a subtle sweetness that came through as I chewed.

Partway through the raw shrimp sashimi, I switched from beer to soju. It was also tasty dipped in chojang.

I especially liked wrapping raw shrimp with seaweed, aged kimchi, and wasabi. Dipping the fried shrimp heads in Buldak mayo added a spicy note to their nutty flavor.

What I liked about this visit was being able to eat the raw shrimp sashimi with several accompaniments, alongside a spicy broth dish. The generous space between tables also made it comfortable to drink and talk during a second round.
