Seongsu dessert café with milk soft serve and ₩3,200 latte: Mellows

It was raining pretty heavily the day my boyfriend and I went to Seongsu looking for a café, and that's how we ended up at Mellows. I figured the café might be a bit quiet given the bad weather, but people kept coming in even in the rain. I got the sense this is a place people seek out on purpose in Seongsu.

Stepping inside Mellows felt like a completely different world from the gloomy weather outside. It had that laid-back yet stylish vibe unique to Seongsu, making it a great spot to rest for a bit and chat with my boyfriend.

What we ordered at Mellows and what it cost

At Mellows that day we ordered a hot café latte for ₩3,200 and three flavors of soft serve, each different. The most basic milk flavor for ₩3,500, peanut butter for ₩4,000 because I was curious about the nutty taste, and peach for ₩4,500 hoping for something refreshing — three flavors in total.

There's also a vintage menu board I wanted to share. The evening-only menu, sold only at night, had a completely different vibe and looked really cool. There are cocktails, whiskey, and snack-style menu items meant to go with drinks, so keep that in mind!!

The peanut butter and plain milk ice creams came out first!!! They looked so cute and dainty, and just really delicious.

Milk soft serve, 3,500 won

First, the milk soft serve — the most basic flavor. They stick a cookie into the ice cream and put cereal at the bottom for a crunchy texture!!

You can really taste the rich milk that's the base of every flavor here — dense and creamy. Genuinely nowhere near comparable to what you'd get at a Lotteria or Burger King. It had a Seoul Milk Farm-like quality, so anyone who loves that thick, sweet milk taste would love this.

Peanut butter soft serve, 4,000 won

Second was the peanut butter flavor. Personally, of the three, this had the most distinct character. There was that unique nutty, rich peanut flavor that felt heavier and more substantial.

Same cookie and cereal as the milk flavor, but with peanut butter added for more depth and a touch of saltiness — anyone who loves peanut butter would be quite satisfied with this. It had both sweet and nutty notes at once, the kind of flavor that makes you eat slowly.

Peach soft serve, 4,500 won (strawberry sold out)

Lastly, the peach soft serve. I actually wanted strawberry, but they said it was sold out, so I went with peach instead. Of the three, this was the most refreshing and bright. The soft ice cream had that distinct sweet peach aroma layered on top, clearly a different direction from the milk and peanut butter flavors.

The milk flavor comes through a bit stronger than the peach, so it's best to think of the peach as more of an accent adding freshness.

Hot café latte for 3,200 won

At first, since it was raining, I thought I'd start with the hot café latte, but once I saw the ice cream I wanted to dive into dessert first. So we tried each ice cream flavor first and finished with the hot latte at the end. Sipping the latte slowly while chatting with my boyfriend, that particular laid-back mood of a rainy day was pretty nice too.

Who should visit Mellows in Seongsu?

If you're looking for a different kind of dessert in Seongsu, or want to try several soft serve flavors, Mellows is worth a stop. Next time, if there's another flavor available, I'd love to try that too.
