Munjeong-dong frozen pork belly for two with sorbet: Minari Naengsam

In short

Minari Naengsam is a frozen pork belly (naengsam) restaurant in Munjeong-dong, Songpa, Seoul, a short walk from Munjeong Station Exit 4. After work, two of us used the table tablet to order two servings of naengsam along with egg soup, minari (water dropwort) fried rice and pineapple sorbet in one go. With green onion kimchi, shredded green onion and wasabi on the side and sorbet to clear the palate, Minari Naengsam covers dinner and dessert in a single sitting.

Table view at a frozen pork belly restaurant visited after work

After a week of being worked to the bone, there's a specific menu that comes to mind on the way home from the office — thick aged fresh meat is nice, but some days you just crave frozen pork belly you can grill and eat right away.

Minari Naengsam at Munjeong Station Exit 4: the regular spot we keep returning to

So we rushed straight here after work — Minari Naengsam, the frozen pork belly spot in Munjeong-dong. I've been here so many times I can't even remember the number anymore. It's the kind of place my feet just carry me to because the food is that good.

Clean, tidy interior of Minari Naengsam

First rule when you get here: plug your phone in to charge. The service is spot on, the interior is clean and tidy, and the staff greet you kindly, which makes the whole meal that much more enjoyable.

Since there are so many offices around, wearing the apron they give you is basically mandatory if you want to eat mess-free.

Ordering by tablet: two servings of naengsam plus egg soup, fried rice and sorbet

We took our time scrolling through the tablet menu, but honestly there was nothing to deliberate — two servings of naengsam, fried rice, egg soup, and sorbet, ordered in seconds, and then the excited wait began.

Green onion kimchi with sesame oil salt and ssamjang basic sides

It's been a while since I've seen green onion kimchi like this. The kimchi you can't skip when eating meat, plus sesame oil salt dip and ssamjang (dipping paste).

The griddle heats up the moment you sit down, and you just toss on minari and kimchi first and let them cook themselves while you wait. The lettuce salad is generous too, so basically every requirement (?) for a proper meat meal is checked off.

This place has a uniquely complete system — you can handle everything from the main meal to dessert without leaving your seat. And honestly, without that sorbet to finish, your mouth just doesn't feel properly refreshed, so it's basically a must-order.

How thick is the frozen pork belly at Minari Naengsam, and how does it eat?

Finally, today's star arrives — the naengsam. The balance between the bright red meat grain and the white fat is perfectly harmonious.

A full spread with a mountain of shredded green onion and basic sides

The side dishes and meat came out incredibly fast right after ordering. A mountain of shredded green onion plus meat to wrap it in — am I the only one whose mouth is already watering just thinking about it?

Table filled with naengsam and basic side dishes

Honestly, I think I'd be happy just eating plain rice with the basic side dishes, no fried rice needed — but add the naengsam on top and the table just gets that much richer. It's only natural.

I couldn't hold back any longer and started laying the meat down, piece by piece. Sliced to a thickness that's neither too thin nor too thick. You could tell right away the freshness was a cut above.

Frozen pork belly grilling on the griddle

At some of the cheaper naengsam places you get a gamey meat smell, or when it's grilled crispy all the moisture is gone and it turns dry as paper. Minari Naengsam's meat is neither dry nor tough, which is a big plus.

Egg soup as a palate cleanser between rounds of pork belly

Before we even had a taste of the meat, the egg soup arrived at lightning speed. The dish, in a galvanized-steel-style pot, was piled high and looked the part.

A quick scoop with a spoon revealed a nice bouncy texture. The soft, savory flavor of the egg wraps around your entire mouth. It was seasoned just right and had a satisfyingly firm center, making it excellent as a palate cleanser in between bites of meat.

Green onion kimchi, shredded green onion and wasabi: how to eat naengsam

The best thing about naengsam is that it's cooked the moment it hits the griddle. Is there a better menu for impatient Koreans? Doubt it.

A well-browned piece of naengsam

Pick up a well-cooked piece, wrap it with green onion kimchi, dip it in sesame oil salt. The unwritten rule for the first bite is meat plus just green onion kimchi rolled together — no minari yet.

Next round, pile on a ton of shredded green onion and wrap big. We skipped the lettuce wraps here, wanting to really taste the meat itself.

The meat kept sizzling away. It's delicious whether eaten alone or wrapped with minari and lettuce — it's clear why this place keeps drawing crowds as the go-to frozen pork belly spot in Munjeong-dong.

There's wasabi too, so if you're serious about your wraps, don't hesitate — pile on everything and go for it. The crisp, popping texture with every bite is incredible.

You could tell right away the meat wasn't tough — soft, deeply savory — and honestly, the two of us barely spoke, too busy eating.

Finishing with minari fried rice and pineapple sorbet

And now for the grand finale — minari fried rice. By this point the meat is all gone, so they add a bit more kimchi, drizzle margarine on the griddle, and fry it right there!

Eaten together with a fried egg on top, the flavor is out of this world.

The highlight finish at Minari Naengsam, the frozen pork belly spot in Munjeong-dong — pineapple sorbet.

Pineapple sorbet served in a whole pineapple

This dessert, frozen right into an adorable whole pineapple, is the perfect way to refresh your palate after all that greasy meat.

To top it off, a staff member even handed out candy on the way out — such a warm gesture. A frozen pork belly spot in Munjeong-dong that doesn't skimp on taste or service.
