After a hearty lunch with my sisters, we headed to Grid Cafe (그리드 카페), a dessert spot near Ogeum Station in Songpa that has earned quite a word-of-mouth reputation locally, for a proper delicious cup of coffee. I take sweet desserts seriously anyway, so I went in full of anticipation after hearing all about their famously good egg tarts.

Grid Cafe's Cozy Atmosphere

As soon as I stepped inside, this tucked-away neighborhood café felt cozy and warm, making it such an easy place to settle into and stay awhile.

White tones and wood worked together beautifully, and everything from the window bar seats to the neat round tables was charmingly arranged. It felt healing the whole time I was there.

There was also a clearly written time-use guide for laptops and tablets, so it was just right for quietly taking a break alone or chatting away with someone.

I noticed that they use the well-known Fritz Coffee Company beans. You could choose according to your taste, from the full-bodied, nutty “Old Dog” to the nicely balanced “Jaldwae-gasina,” plus an easygoing decaf option.

Bakery Selection and Our Order

The display case had a more substantial bakery selection than I expected. Different kinds of ciabatta and scones filled the case, while the varied salt bread lineup caught my eye first.

In particular, the bread schedule by the entrance said freshly baked goods come out in batches from 9 AM every day, so this was somewhere you could find fresh bread whenever you visited.

Soft and crackle-style salt bread

The salt bread came in two types too: soft and crisp crackle-style. That completely hit my preferences. I love a crisp texture so much that I always reheat salt bread in the air fryer when I bring it home, so the crunchy crackle salt bread especially jumped right out at me.

Ordering at the kiosk was easy, so we comfortably picked our menu and waited for the drinks and bread. This time, we ordered a Grid cream shot, vanilla bean latte, nutty cream shot, and one slice of the egg tart I had been looking forward to most.

Nutty Cream Shot and Egg Tart

The nutty cream shot I chose was pure nuttiness, and the bits of nuts that occasionally crunched as I drank were so appealing.

Nutty cream shot with a nutty texture

Since it is a short-sized signature coffee, the slightly small serving was about its only downside—it tasted so good that I wanted more.

I also took a sip of the Grid cream shot my sister chose. It had a hint of cinnamon and was creamier and smoother than the nutty one. But for my taste, with its rich, deep nuttiness and the fun of chewing the nut pieces, the nutty cream shot was much more delicious after all.

The egg tart we tried next had a crisp pastry shell filled with a wonderfully soft filling that was neither too runny nor too firm, and every bite made me sigh in appreciation. Its creamy, moist texture was a perfect match for coffee, and I immediately understood why this place is called a Songpa dessert destination.
