Jocheon-eup 9-side-dish mackerel table: Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap
In short
Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap is a Jeju home-style Korean restaurant on Johamhaean-ro in Jocheon-eup, a three-minute drive along the coastal road from Hamdeok Beach. The mackerel ssambap (wrap rice) set for two costs 36,000 won and arrives with nine side dishes, soy-marinated raw crab and braised mackerel topped with half a head of aged kimchi, all mild enough to let the ingredients taste like themselves. For a clean, generous Jeju local spread in a comfortable new building, Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap is an easy pick.

How long is it from Hamdeok Beach to Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap?
This Hamdeok favorite is super accessible — just a 3-minute drive along the coastal road from the entrance of Hamdeok Beach.
What the restaurant looks like from the coastal road
The restaurant is on the ground floor, so it's easy to spot as you drive along the coastal road.
Inside Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap: seating and self-serve bar
Being a new building, everything from the exterior to the interior was spotless and comfortable — I really liked it. The place is fairly spacious too, seating about 50 people at once.
The restaurant faces a harbor along the coast, so the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows by the tables is really pretty. It's a bit of a hidden gem if you visit in the evening — you can eat while watching the sunset over the sea.

There's a self-serve bar on one side of the restaurant that you can use freely until 6:30 pm. If you run low on side dishes after that, just ask the owner and they'll kindly bring more. The self-serve bar also has a microwave, disposable aprons, and high chairs for anyone who needs them.
Menu prices and what else you can add

Looking at the menu, both the mackerel ssambap and the black pork duruchigi (stir-fry) start from a minimum of 2 servings.
There's also a wide range of Jeju local dishes like braised hairtail, sea urchin seaweed soup, hairtail soup, and abalone hot pot.

I also liked that if you want more during the meal, you can add on grilled skewers, crab, or aged kimchi.

The soy-marinated crab is popular enough that it's sold separately, and after tasting it I understood exactly why. There's also an ongoing event where leaving a Naver receipt review gets you a free Jeju crunch chocolate — don't miss it.
The mackerel ssambap set for two, 36,000 won

What I ordered was the mackerel ssambap (wrap rice) for two, ₩36,000.

Even the utensil holder showed attention to hygiene — the spoons and chopsticks were individually wrapped in disposable packaging, which made for a pleasant start to the meal.
The side dishes came in stainless bowls, a whopping nine of them — it felt like sitting down at a full traditional Korean set-meal restaurant.
I also appreciated the owner's thoughtfulness in serving salad first, to help avoid a blood sugar spike before the main meal.

Tasting each side dish, I could really feel the skill behind them — deep flavors that weren't overly seasoned, letting the natural taste of the ingredients shine. That clean quality really suited my palate.

Ganjang gejang (soy-marinated raw crab)
The soy-marinated crab served alongside had absolutely no fishy smell and the meat was plump and firm. The sweetness that came through with each bite was really addictive — I understood now why everyone buys it separately.

There were also three kinds of wrap vegetables plus plenty of chili peppers, so I was fully set up to enjoy the wrap rice properly.

Braised mackerel with half a head of aged kimchi
Finally, the main dish — the mackerel ssambap — arrived at the table.

A whole half-head of aged kimchi sat on top, with four generous, thick chunks of mackerel piled underneath. Just the color of the sauce was mouth-watering.

The well-fermented aged kimchi had that deep, aged sourness paired with umami — truly a rice thief in every sense.

The mackerel was thick and meaty, with absolutely no fishy taste.

The sauce had soaked all the way through, so even just laying a piece over rice tasted amazing.

How to eat the mackerel ssambap set the best way
My own way to enjoy it best: put a spoonful of rice on a wrap leaf, top it with a piece of mackerel and a bit of aged kimchi, then wrap it up big and eat it all at once. The savory mackerel oil filling your mouth combined with the tangy kick of the aged kimchi was truly excellent.
If you're looking for a filling yet tidy local meal near Hamdeok, give Jeju Seom Godeungeo Ssambap a try. After enjoying a carefully prepared 9-side-dish spread with fresh mackerel dishes in such a pleasant setting, your Jeju trip will feel even more enjoyable.
