Hello! We suddenly went on a family trip to Jeonju, and my family wanted meat on the way... so as the one who always plans things, I searched and searched and searched hard for a good Jeonju grill spot to take my family to, and I finally found a great one!!

You know that feeling? Wondering whether the portion a grill restaurant sells is actually the amount it claims? (It's always a mystery how "one serving" turns out to be just one lump...) But the place I'm introducing today also runs a butcher shop, so you can buy meat that's already butchered and weighed out by the gram from the butcher counter → then grill it right next door. And on top of that, the table fee is 0 won!! Let's go~~~

Where is Hoseongjeong Butcher's Restaurant, and what are its hours and parking?

  • 📍Location: 1st floor, 811 Dongbu-daero
  • 📍Hours: 11:00 - 23:00
  • 📍Restroom: gender-separated, inside the store (totally clean!!)
  • 📍Parking: 7 spots right in front
  • 📍Group rooms available (reservation required)

I visited right at the 11:00 opening time for parking, and I could park immediately without worrying about spots~ Even around 12:30 when we finished eating, there were still quite a few seats left, so I think it'd be fine unless you go during the busiest dinner rush!!

The butcher counter where you pick your own meat

Once inside the store~ they guide you straight to the butcher counter >< Once there, it's like the meat section of a big supermarket — so many types of meat, all cut and displayed really neatly by part and by gram!

Refrigerated pork display case

So if you think "Oh, I want more than this!", you can just look at the packs behind or around it, and if you think "I want less!", there are plenty of smaller portions nearby too. On top of that, you get to actually see and choose based on how much fat there is, or for beef, the marbling — that felt like a really big advantage!!

I went that day specifically for pork, so I mostly looked at pork, and they have packs over 600 grams as well as smaller ones like 300g or 200g, so you can pick according to your taste and how much you plan to eat that day~

They also sell Jirisan black pork, so if you want to try black pork while in Jeonju, that's a good option too!

How much does the beef counter cost?

Now here's the beef counter. Beef is right next to the pork~ they sell soup-stock cuts here too, and an assorted platter with a variety of beef cuts for around ₩50,000, which seemed like a great deal with lots of options~

And maybe because they only use quality cuts and good grades, the color of the meat is just... wow, I almost got hypnotized

Display of yukhoe, beef sashimi, and chadol sashimi

Yukhoe (beef tartare), beef sashimi, and the trendy chadol sashimi (frozen sliced beef brisket) were all sold cheaply, in the ₩10,000-range and ₩9,000-range, which seemed great for trying a little of everything : )

Chuseok Korean beef gift sets

Takeout discounts of 20-40% on pork and beef

And Chuseok (Korean harvest holiday) is coming up soon! For those looking for a beef gift set, Hoseongjeong's beef gift set is...

...arranged in a flower shape like this, and can be customized with the cuts you want (and the price is really affordable too!!!!) so if you're putting together a gift set, I'd recommend visiting to check out the meat in person too~ I also took a video showing the whole meat display~

And!! If you buy for takeout, both pork and beef get a 20-40% discount! So instead of the prices I showed above, you can enjoy Hoseongjeong's meat at home for 20-40% less, so I'd super!!recommend!! takeout too~~

What the writer picked: ogyeopsal (five-layer pork belly)

So this is what I picked! I'd read that the pork belly here was delicious, so I loaded up a big portion in grams focused on that, and it was seriously the perfect choice. Let me say this now — you absolutely have to try Hoseongjeong's pork belly ㅠㅠ so good... The scoring cuts were done really well and the belly layers stayed intact, so it was incredibly tasty!

The dining hall, group rooms and restrooms at Hoseongjeong

Since I was dining in today, I ordered the meat at the counter and moved straight into the dining area right next door! I filmed a quick look at where you eat the meat : )

Interior of the hall and group rooms at Hoseongjeong

The dining area is split into two: ★the main hall ★and the group rooms. The rooms were private, several of them, and they could be closed with doors — so even though there was a large group in on the day I visited, I barely noticed they were there. But when someone opened the door and walked in and out, I could hear their voices, so wow, the soundproofing was really good~

And right next to it were gender-separated restrooms, which were clearly maintained with real care! I genuinely thought, is this really a Jeonju grill restaurant restroom ㅋㅋㅋ it was so, so clean I really enjoyed using it~

Self-serve drink fridge with prices posted

And if you're eating inside Hoseongjeong, drinks are self-serve — but look at the prices! ★Soju & beer around ₩2,000★ and it's always like that, not some Jeonju-only or Korea-wide event pricing, just constantly ₩2,000??? This is it... this is the place... wow

Free side dishes that come with a 0 won table fee

Once we sat down where we wanted, the staff served us right away! They also gave us basic water, which was cool roasted barley tea and really nice to drink!

So the smell of meat doesn't get on your things, every seat had a storage bench like this, which was great for putting bags or coats ㅎㅎ

And the free soup they provide is Korean beef miyeokguk (seaweed soup)! It was nice that the soup was simmering separately so you could eat it as you went, and they gave us a soup bowl and ladle, which was really convenient for scooping our own portions~><

Now let me show you the basic side dishes they provide! The dipping sauce next to it was given individually, one per person, which felt hygienic~ and most of all, the side dishes included green onion kimchi and grilled doraji (bellflower root), among others — and when you grill this green onion kimchi and doraji together with the meat! Wow~~~ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ I refilled it twice! You really, really have to grill and eat these!!

Large meal menu posted on the wall

Also, if you want to order a meal item aside from meat, there's a big menu board on the wall, so take a look~ A lot of people during lunchtime were ordering galbitang (short rib soup) without any meat order~!

Self-serve corner with side dishes and vegetables

Right next to that was a self-serve corner, but since I went right at opening time, they told me it wasn't set up yet~ Instead, whenever we told the staff we were low on side dishes or vegetables, they kindly brought them right away, so no worries there NO NO~

Drinks, self-serve! Water, self-serve! Life, self-serve! So intense ㅋㅋㅋㅋ But when self-serve drinks are ₩2,000, bring it on~ ㅠㅠ so good!

Grilling the ogyeopsal, plus cheese gyeranjjim (steamed egg)

Yep~ meat time now★ We grilled the meat we brought over on the grill plate! The grill was round and slightly concave, so oil didn't splatter around easily, which was really nice~

We also ordered a cheese egg soufflé on top, and the visual was insane;;;; it looked like a volcano... I seriously recommend the cheese egg soufflé, so good

Cheese egg soufflé puffed up like a volcano

You can also get unlimited lettuce wraps, so it's delicious wrapped up like this too!

A lettuce wrap filled with grilled meat

Like I mentioned earlier, you have to grill the doraji and eat it! It genuinely tastes like grilled deodeok (bellflower root) ><

. . .

Is Hoseongjeong worth it for a family meal in Jeonju?

After stuffing ourselves like this... all that's left is a very well-fed belly ㅎㅎㅎ

The coffee machine used after the meal

After eating, there was even a coffee machine, so we could have coffee too ㅎㅎ If you're looking for a great Jeonju grill restaurant! You might think, wait, the self-serve bar is free, so is something missing? But like I said, the side dishes include green onion kimchi — that says it all~~~ This was my first time going to a Jeonju grill restaurant while traveling here and grilling it myself, and I went with my parents, who were satisfied enough that I'd fully recommend this place!! It's not far from Jeonju Hanok Village either, so I recommend it~♥
