I went for a family meal at Hoseongjeong, a Korean beef restaurant worth visiting near Jeonju Station.

It's a butcher's restaurant attached to a meat shop, where you pick out your own meat directly from the showcase and bring it to your table.

There are takeout discounts too, and some cuts are marked down, so you can pick whatever cut or price range you feel like eating. They have Korean pork, Korean beef, raw beef tartare, eggs, and more.

I went with Korean beef galbisal (rib finger meat).

Once you pick your meat and sit down, the table is already set, and even with no table fee, you still get basic side dishes, vegetables, and wraps — such good value! You can even grab extras from the self-bar.

Hoseongjeong's meal menu has lunch specials from ₩8,000 to ₩15,000, and sides from ₩4,000 to ₩10,000.

Eating Korean beef galbisal with grilled cheese and cheonggukjang

Along with the meat, I ordered a bunch of extra sides at Hoseongjeong — grilled cheese, cheese steamed egg, and cheonggukjang (rice included).

Grilling the cheese along with the meat made the grill plate so full and satisfying 😊🥩

Thanks to the fresh wrap vegetables I got for free even without a table fee, the beef tasted even richer.

The meat was tender and delicious, and since it's beef but still affordable, if you're looking for a good Korean beef restaurant near Jeonju Station, I'd recommend eating at Hoseongjeong.

I was on the fence about ordering the grilled cheese, but I remembered seeing grilled cheese in Jeonju Hanok Village and decided to order it 🧀 It filled me up with protein, flavor, and the fun of stretchy cheese pulls 😊👍

Pairing it with the various side dishes let me enjoy the beef all the way through without getting tired of it.

Finally, I ordered the cheonggukjang plus rice menu for my meal — the cheonggukjang was really rich but not too strong-smelling, so it's easy to enjoy regardless of preference. Plus, since rice was included, it was a hearty way to finish the meal.
