We ordered the frozen and aged pork belly. It felt like a shame to eat just meat, so we also added doenjang-jjigae and stone pot rice. Stone pot rice isn't a dish that comes out right away — it takes a bit of time. If you're planning to have it, it's best to order it together when you order the meat. We ordered it from the start too, so it came out just as we were eating the meat, no waiting around.

Geobugi Dongne's salad bar has fresh vegetables and several sauces that go well with the meat.

We picked out just what we wanted. The lettuce wraps were fresh, and with so many sauces to choose from, even the same meat tasted different with each pairing.

It was also convenient that we could just go grab more whenever we ran low.

At a BBQ place, once the grill, side dishes, and meat plates are all on the table, things get cramped fast. Geobugi Dongne's tables were big enough that eating as a couple was comfortable.

Even with the flash-frozen and aged pork belly, side dishes, stone pot rice, and doenjang-jjigae all out at once, there was plenty of room — nothing felt crowded.

We grilled the flash-frozen pork belly first. It's thin, so it cooks fast, and it wasn't just greasy — it tasted clean and light.

We wrapped it in lettuce, grilled some bracken and potatoes from the salad bar alongside it, and dipped it in the sauces too.

The flash-frozen belly cooked so quickly that it honestly was the easiest to eat.

Aged pork belly: chewy, with no gamey smell

After the flash-frozen belly, we moved on to the aged pork belly. It was noticeably thicker than the frozen cut, so the texture was completely different — chewy and savory, and thanks to the aging, there was no gamey smell at all.

The flash-frozen belly was clean and easy to eat, while the aged pork belly had a satisfying, chewy bite. Rather than picking just one, ordering both and comparing turned out to be a great idea.

Stone pot rice and doenjang-jjigae to finish the meal

While we were eating, the stone pot rice we'd pre-ordered arrived. Pork belly really does taste better with warm rice.

Piling pork belly onto the stone pot rice and eating it with the doenjang-jjigae made the meal properly filling. We always need rice with our meat. Since stone pot rice takes a bit of time, it's worth ordering it with some time to spare.

Is Geobugi Dongne worth it for a weekday lunch?

When we go with the kids, we're usually busy watching the meat cook, cutting it up, and serving rice. In the evenings especially, it gets busy and the salad bar can get a bit chaotic.

Maybe because we came at lunchtime, we could eat at a much more relaxed pace. We took our time working through the flash-frozen belly, the aged belly, and the stone pot rice. Eating without the rush made me glad we'd come for lunch.
