Busan galbi restaurant where staff grill for you: Yong Hanu Namcheon

In short

Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch is a hanwoo (Korean beef) restaurant in Namcheon-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan, near the Suyeong District Office and Suyeong Tax Office. A family of four with two children booked a weekend table and ordered 4 servings of hanwoo freshly seasoned galbi plus seafood doenjang stew, and the staff grilling service meant the meat could be enjoyed while still minding the kids. Even the fatty trim got eaten that day, so Yong Hanu Namcheon is a place this family would return to for a night out.

Where is Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch in Busan?

Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch?

I went to a beef restaurant in Namcheon-dong, near the Suyeong District Office and Suyeong Tax Office. It's close to Gwangalli Beach too, so I made a reservation and took the kids out for a weekend family meal, sort of like a drive. My husband and kids — all three of my little rice-eaters — worked hard cooking on weekdays, so isn't it fair to eat out on the weekend?

They had hanwoo instant seasoned galbi, which our family loves, so I ordered 4 servings right away. They said they even do tableside grilling service when it's not too busy. Nice!

Menu and lunch specials at Yong Hanu Namcheon

Looking at the menu, there was hanwoo yukhoe (raw beef), plus various cuts — galbi, sirloin, striploin, tenderloin, snowflake sirloin flap, sanggyeopsal-style shoulder, hanger steak, skirt meat, and more.

At lunch, they also had separate lunch specials that looked great for midday — hanwoo white boneless galbitang, hanwoo red boneless galbitang, hanwoo mountain-pile chadolbagi doenjang hot pot, and hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap.

Opening hours and parking

Open daily 11:00-23:00, with a break time from 15:00-16:30. We used Daerim Parking right across the street. There's parking available near the Suyeong District Office and tax office, and they support ₩3,000 per table — nice touch!

True to the name Yong Hanu (dragon hanwoo), there's a dragon painting on the wall, haha. The owner and staff were kind, which stuck with me, and with the grilling service too, it felt like a comfortable place to come back to for family dinners.

Salad side dish with tomatoes and vegetables
Cucumber peppers served with doenjang sauce

What side dishes come with the meal?

Red tomatoes and a big pile of green salad, and the kicker here was the dressing and cheese powder — I kept reaching for more. The cucumber peppers had a nice crisp bite too, paired well with the doenjang (soybean paste) sauce, and I was popping them into my mouth one after another before the meat even arrived.

White kimchi and pickles, basic side dishes at the beef restaurant

White kimchi and pickles are the unwritten rule at any beef restaurant, right?

Thinly shredded fresh lettuce salad

The fresh lettuce salad was thinly shredded, and it suited my taste in seasoning, plus I liked the soft, tender texture of the lettuce.

Maldon salt, garlic soy sauce, whole-grain mustard sauce, and wasabi were set up on the table as basics, but since the seasoned galbi already comes marinated, you didn't really need to dip it in anything extra.

Gim served alongside the kids' rice
Rice bowl ordered separately for the kids

It's a small thing, but touches like this stick with you. When I ordered rice separately for the kids, they even gave us gim (seaweed sheets). Of course, my kids love the seasoned galbi so they preferred eating meat with rice anyway.

Hanwoo instant seasoned galbi prepared right after ordering

Hanwoo freshly seasoned galbi, 4 servings: will kids eat it?

The hanwoo instant seasoned galbi gets made right when you order it, and it looks so appetizing. At first I thought, is there a bit too much fat on this? Uh oh, my kids hate the fatty parts. But then — as the staff grilled it golden brown on both sides, my kids actually ate it without spitting out the fat, better than I expected. Whoa!

It looked a bit different from typical seasoned galbi, honestly — haha, if the staff hadn't grilled it for us, I might have burned the whole batch. It seemed like it took a bit of skill to grill this properly.

Once it was fully cooked, I thought, my kids could definitely handle this. Sometimes my husband and I like something but the kids take one or two bites and spit it out, which is a total meltdown moment.

A bite-sized piece of seasoned galbi cut for eating

Mom will try it first~~~ Then I cut it into bite-sized pieces for the kids and fed it to them.

Now the relay begins, haha. Wait, it's already been that long and they want more? I think it's about time they graduate from being fed by mom — let's try eating by yourself today, hahaha.

Yeolmu noodles served with the meat

Yeolmu (young radish) cold noodles and how filling 4 servings are

Yeolmu (young radish greens) noodles came out with the meal. Worried the kids wouldn't eat it because of yeolmu's distinctive tangy-spicy flavor, I set the greens aside and just gave them the noodles, and they ate it up fine. When they asked for another bowl of yeolmu noodles, I talked them into having more meat and rice instead.

Grilled seasoned galbi set on the stone plate

As the meat cooked and turned a pretty golden color on both sides, they set it on the stone plate for us. The meat was on the tender side, so it was easy to feed the kids and they just ate it up well. I don't have photos after this point because I was too busy eating myself, haha. 4 servings was just right for 2 adults and 2 kids — next time I want to be greedy and order one more, for 5 total.

Seafood doenjang stew with crab

How was the seafood doenjang stew?

I ordered the seafood doenjang stew, and maybe because it had crab in it, the broth tasted refreshing — a spoonful of broth, a spoonful of rice, done in no time! It also came with gim and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) side dishes, which went well with the rice.

Is Yong Hanu Namcheon a good spot for dinner with kids?

Just seeing the kids eat well made me glad we went out for this family meal. Home cooking is great, but eating out is even better, right, haha. When you go out for meat with kids, what matters most in the end is whether everyone can enjoy the meal together — and that day, without even needing to overthink the menu, all four of us enjoyed the one dish of hanwoo instant seasoned galbi.

When you bring two kids to a beef restaurant, you're usually too busy grilling the meat yourself, but that day the staff did the grilling, so for the first time in a while I could actually savor each bite while eating. Yong Hanu Namcheon Branch made me feel like I finally had a relaxed dinner myself — I'll be back.
