Namcheon-dong BBQ with a 7-year-old and stone pot rice: Geobugi Dongne

In short

Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch is an aged pork belly restaurant on the main Suyeong-ro road in Namcheon-dong, Suyeong, Busan. A family of three ordered the 800g family set, stone pot rice for three and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), grilling pork belly, neck, jowl and gabrisal cut by cut and finishing with nurungji (scorched rice) from the stone pot. With a large vegetable self-serve bar, kids' plates and a video room for small children, Geobugi Dongne worked well for a weekend meal out with a 7-year-old.

We went as a whole family on the weekend to eat our fill of pork belly at a Namcheon-dong barbecue spot, 'Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch.' When you're raising a kid, meat quality matters when eating out, but so does whether it's easy for the kid to eat and whether you can feed everyone generously without breaking the bank, right? This place checked every one of those boxes perfectly, so let me share a truly satisfying visit.

Location and hours at Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch

Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch is on the 1st floor of 414 Suyeong-ro, Suyeong-gu, Busan, right on the main road in Namcheon-dong. It's open daily from 11:30 to 22:30, with last order at 21:30.

A clean interior and a convenient self-serve bar

Located right on the main road in Namcheon-dong, Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch has a clean, sleek exterior that stands out even from a distance. The inside is spacious and comfortable too, making it perfect for a weekend family meal or a gathering.

There's a room toward the back haha. It seats 20 and is partitioned off, so it's great for company dinners and other gatherings lol. When we went, there seemed to be a work dinner happening in there too lol.

What especially caught my eye was the generous self-serve corner (a huge vegetable self-serve bar) set up in one part of the restaurant.

  • Plenty of fresh lettuce wraps of every kind
  • Pickles, ssamjang, garlic and other sides to go with the meat
  • A kids' plate with fork and spoon, all ready to go!

The self-serve bar was kept spotless, so it felt hygienic and put me at ease using it with my kid. The staff greeted us kindly too, so it was a pass from the very first impression.

The three of us went with the family set plus pot rice for three haha.

What our 7-year-old son devoured with us

The biggest draw of Geobugi Dongne Namcheon Branch is, without a doubt, the reasonable prices and the thick cuts of meat. Getting to enjoy aged meat at such good value already had us excited before we even ordered.

Aged pork belly & pork neck

The pork belly, impressively thick, was already dripping with juices as it browned on the grill. The ratio of fat to lean meat was just right, and our 7-year-old son said 'the meat is so soft!' as he cleaned out a whole bowl of rice.

Pork jowl & skirt meat (gabrisal)

The specialty cuts — pork jowl (hangjeongsal) and skirt meat (gabrisal) — showed off a different kind of charm. The pork jowl had a chewy-yet-crisp texture with a distinct nutty flavor filling the mouth, while the soft, moist skirt meat exploded with savoriness the more you chewed. There's a real joy in picking through different cuts, and my husband and I both couldn't put our chopsticks down.

A variety of side dishes

Piling the meat with myeongi-namul (wild garlic leaves), gat kimchi (mustard leaf kimchi), and pa-jeori (sliced scallion salad) meant it never got old, bite after bite. Going to a barbecue restaurant with a kid usually means juggling grilling the meat and looking after the child, but the thick cuts and strong grill heat that browned things quickly was a huge plus from a parent's perspective.

Skirt meat, then pork jowl, in that order — they were so good lol, no need to say more~

Pot rice for three, finished with nurungji

The pot rice arrived while we were still eating meat (it took 15 minutes), so we scooped out the rice, made nurungji, and ate it — oh man, so nutty~ There's that feeling of digesting comfortably after finishing off pot rice with nurungji at the end lol. I don't think it's just our family, right? lol. Both my kid and I really love nurungji lol lol.

The doenjang-jjigae we also ordered, wow~ why is the soybean paste stew at barbecue places always so good lol.

A completely satisfied, belly-full finish

My husband, me, and even our little chief — all three of us barely put our chopsticks down as we devoured everything, and by the end our bellies were so full it was hard to move. We got to enjoy quality aged meat by the cut without any worry about the bill, and it suited our kid's taste perfectly, so this is now our top pick for the next family meal out in Namcheon-dong. To top it off, they even have coffee or soft-serve ice cream for dessert lol.
