Yeouido IFC Mall tteokbokki after a family bike ride: Hyeonseonine
In short
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is a tteokbokki (spicy rice cake) and bunsik (Korean snack food) restaurant on level B2 of IFC Mall, connected to Yeouido Station in Seoul. After a bike ride around Yeouido with the kids, the writer stopped in and ordered the Hyeonseoni Set (23,000 won) — tteokbokki, sundae (blood sausage), fried snacks and mini gimbap — in mild spice, and the adjustable heat made it easy to share with children. The vegetable and sweet potato fritters and the mini gimbap were the favourites, and draft beer on the menu means Hyeonseonine also works for grown-up gatherings.

These days with the nice weather, I just want to go out everywhere. The kids have been dying to run around too, so we hopped on the subway and headed to Yeouido. On the way back from biking with the kids around Yeouido, feeling a bit hungry, I immediately thought of a Yeouido tteokbokki favorite — Hyeonseonine. Whenever I'm craving tteokbokki in Yeouido, I used to drop by Hyeonseonine often, so I stopped in again after a while.

Where is Hyeonseonine Premium in IFC Mall, and what are the hours?
Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch is on B2 of IFC Mall, 10 Gukjegeumyung-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It's open Mon–Fri and Sat–Sun 12:00–21:00, and parking isn't available.
It's connected to Yeouido Station, so getting there by subway is easy. It also connects to the underground passage leading to IFC and The Hyundai Seoul, so it's convenient to stop by. Compared to the crowded restaurants at The Hyundai, this place is much more pleasant — perfect for popping in with kids.
What the self-serve bar at Hyeonseonine stocks

At the self-serve bar at this Yeouido tteokbokki favorite, pickled radish, salt, wet wipes, small plates, and utensils were all neatly set out. The pickled radish is thinly sliced, which makes it easy to eat.

How Hyeonseonine began as a spicy tteokbokki shop
Hyeonseonine started out as a spicy tteokbokki place. I've had that spicy tteokbokki before, and honestly, how can something be THAT spicy? I remember eating it painfully but happily. Hyeonseonine's spicy tteokbokki has a devoted fan base.
Back when it started as a street cart, it was so popular that taxi drivers would deliver it for people. There weren't delivery riders like now, so it was literally delivered by taxi — true story. I first heard about it from a friend who lives in Yongsan, and I've been eating here happily ever since.

Ordering at the Hyeonseonine kiosk: can you choose the spice level?
At Hyeonseonine Premium IFC Mall Branch, you order at the kiosk near the entrance.

This Yeouido tteokbokki favorite is deliciously spicy, but you can adjust the spice level, which makes it great to eat with kids too.

The menu is split into à la carte, sets, and instant (cooked-to-order) items. The instant tteokbokki is good too, but I figured pre-made would work better with kids. There's also ramyeon and rice bowls as à la carte options, including a spicy ramyeon — I've had it before and it was genuinely, seriously spicy. Makes you wonder what exactly is in that spice.

The 23,000-won Hyeonseoni Set in mild spice, shared with the kids
We ordered the Hyeonseoni Set, which comes with a generous, well-rounded variety perfect for eating with kids. The Hyeonseoni Set includes tteokbokki, sundae (Korean blood sausage), fried snacks, and gimbap for ₩23,000. No need to agonize over choices since a bit of everything comes in the set. The sundae even arrives covered in plastic wrap to keep it moist. They gave us plenty of fish cake broth too.
We shared the well-seasoned tteokbokki in mild spice with the kids. Thin fish cake slices were mixed in too, which was delicious. The portion is quite generous.

The kids loved the mini gimbap too. The filling was substantial, so it was great for feeding the kids. They ate the tteokbokki well, but the mini gimbap was a hit too.

Vegetable fritters and sundae in the Hyeonseoni Set
I loved the vegetable fritters, so I dipped them in the tteokbokki sauce. The fried snacks were all crispy and delicious, especially the vegetable and sweet potato ones. The kids didn't touch the sundae, so I ate it all myself — it was fresh and tasty.

Draft beer and roomy seating at Hyeonseonine in IFC Mall
Chewy, sweet-and-spicy Hyeonseonine tteokbokki — highly recommend it whenever you're craving good tteokbokki in Yeouido. Hyeonseonine's tteokbokki also comes with draft beer, so it's really great to enjoy with a drink. I couldn't have a draft beer this time since I was with the kids, but next time I'll come back with a friend and enjoy it properly.

There's plenty of seating out front too. It's convenient to stop by while shopping at IFC Mall, or after playing at Yeouido Park. Good for a meal, good for a snack, good as a drinking companion — that's Hyeonseonine.
